Ernest H. Heavner, 85

Ernest H. "Buck" Heavner, 85, of Petersburg, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.

Mr. Heavner was born Dec. 2, 1918, in Seneca Rocks and was a son of the late Asa Heavner and Zernie Moyer Heavner and step-son of the late Elia Mae Sites Heavner.

He was a retired farmer.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Tressie Sherman Heavner; five sons, John Heavner, Junior H. Heavner and Jarrett Heavner, all of Petersburg, Ernest J. Heavner of Moorefield and Emory Heavner of Maysville; three daughters, Goldie Helmick of Maysville, Elaine Shockey of Chestertown, MD, and Regina Heavner of Cabins; three sisters, Norlena Berg and Pat Berg, both of Jordan Run, and Betty Dolly of Seneca Rocks; five brothers, Willie Heavner, Mason Heavner and Paul Heavner, all of Falls Church, VA, Larry Heavner of Seneca Rocks and Luther Heavner of Cabins; 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lacey J. Ann Heavner; two brothers, kenny Heavner and Ollie Heavner; and two sisters, Alice Heavner and Mernie Brown.

The Rev. Leslie R. Hipp conducted the funeral at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was at South Branch Memorial Gardens in Petersburg.

Irene M. Mason, 30

Irene Mae Mason, 30, of Pawley Springs, VA, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, as a result of an automobile accident.

She was born Jan. 1, 1974, in Harrisonburg, VA, and was a daughter of William Grogg, Jr. of Rawley Springs, VA, and Victoria Thompson Smith of Arizona.

She was employed at McDonald's on South Main St. in Harrisonburg, VA, where she had worked for the past six years and had also been employed at Rockingham Memorial Hospital for the past two years.  She had previously attended Vero Beach Alliance Church in Vero Beach, FL.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Samuel Mason of Florida; a son, Samuel Mason Jr., a daughter, Diane Marie Mason, both at home; four sisters, Debra Baker of Harrisonburg, VA, Shana Hendrix, Tiffany Hendrix and Xena Erica Hendrix, all at home; three brothers, William L. Grogg of Brandywine, Jennings S. Grogg of Broadway, VA, Jeremy W. Grogg at home; a step-mother, Debbie J. Grogg of Rawley Springs, VA; grandparents, Ruth Thompson and Lewis Thompson, William Grogg Sr., Irene Pennington and Maggie See; a step-grandmother, Mary A. Judy; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Saturday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA.  Burial followed at the Rawley Springs Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Andrea "Angie" Eye, 60

Andrea Ruth Briggs "Angie" Eye, 60, of Brandywine died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Avante at Harrisonburg, VA.

Mrs. Eye was born Feb. 23, 1944, in White Sulphur Springs and was the daughter of the late Reginald Arthur Briggs and Dorothy E. Cutting Briggs.

She was an inspector for Hanover Shoe Company in Franklin and was a member of Brushy Run Church of God.

Her husband, Allen Gordon Eye, Sr., preceded her in death June 25, 1997.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Allen Eye of Harrisonburg, VA, and Allen Eye, Jr., of Penn Laird, VA; a brother robert "Bobby" Carter Briggs of Florida; and two grandchildren, Trenton Michael Eye and Audrianna Marie Eye, both of Harrisonburg, VA.

The Rev. Stanley Kile conducted the funeral at 1 p.m. Friday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine.

Edgar L. Simmons, 77

Edgar Leroy Simmons, 77, of Cherry Grove died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. Simmons was born May 8, 1927, in Cherry Grove and was a son of the late Ralph Simmons and Mabel Louella Tichenor Simmons.

He was a farmer and a Pendleton County school bus driver for 14 years.  He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Walnut Street United methodist Church and Franklin Ruritan Club.

On June 8, 1951, he married Hazel Mary Bennett, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Douglas Simmons of Franklin, and Allen Simmons and Mark Simmons, both of Circleville; two sisters, Charlene Hubbard of Kensington, MD, and Lula Belle Morton of Franklin; two brothers, Vernon C. Simmons of Franklin and Melvin R. Simmons of Glen Burnie, MD; six grandchildren, Samantha, Travis, Jessica, Justin, Haley and christopher Simmons; and three great-grandchildren, Lucinda, Eric and Kriste Simmons.

He also was preceded in death by one sister, Charlotte Simmons.

Dr. Cecil D. Bradfield conducted the funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at the Blue Grass Cemetery in Blue Grass, VA.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pendleton County fire and rescue squads.

Roger C. Slamen, 61

Roger Clark Slamen, 61, of Franklin and formerly of Monongah, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Grant memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Slamen was born July 27, 1942, in Carolina and was a son of the Frank Slamen and Anna Moody Slamen.

He was a computer analyst and owned and operated Computer Magic in Franklin.  He was a member of the Franklin Loyal Order of the Moose No. 769.

He is survived by two daughters, Cheri Cameon of Fairmont, and Debbie Slamen of Monongah; a son, Roger C. Slamen II of Fairmont; three sisters, Mrs. Mike (Mary) Sheraff of Myrtle Beach, SC, Mrs. Charles (Virginia) Monsour of New Castle, PA, and Kathryn Slamen of Clarksburg; a brother, Abraham Slaman of Fairmont; two grandchildren, Andrew and Evan Cameon; and one sister-in-law, Kathy Slaman of Elkview.

He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Fannie Alexander and Edna Amelia Slamen, and four brothers, Eunice, Isaac, Alex and Frank Slamen.

A graveside service was held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shinnston Masonic Cemetery in Shinnston.

Arrangements were by the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mary L. Patch, 62

Mary Lynn Ours Patch, 62, of Petersburg, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mrs. Patch was born Aug. 29, 1941, in Petersburg and was the daughter of Evangeline Hall Ours of Moorefield and the late Harman M. Ours.

She was the owner of Corner Collectibles in Moorefield.  She attended Petersburg High School and was crowned Miss Petersburg in 1959.  She was a member of the Lighthouse Community Church.

She had lived some of her early years in Upper Tract.

Her first husband, D. Glenn "Bunt" Borror, preceded her in death in 1964.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Richard W. "Dick" Patch; a daughter, Debra L. Judy of Moorefield; a son, Russell H. Nash of Baltimore, MD; two step-daughters, Sherry L. Cain of Daytona Beach, FL, and Cynthia R. Hinkle of Petersburg; two brothers, Gene A. Ours of Moorefield and Roger L. Ours of Dorcas; a granddaughter, Mandy Schetromph; a great-granddaughter, Crystal Schetromph; and seven step-grandchildren, Wesley, Rebecca, Nathan and Jessica Hinkle and Dylan and Ashley Cain.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Herman M. Ours, Jr.

The Rev. Joseph Eversole conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg.

Zolie E. Warner, 74 

Zolie E. Warner, age 74 of Alliance, OH, died at his home Monday morning June 21, 2004.

He was born June 9, 1930, in Cherry Grove and was the son of the late Robert J. and Masel (Mullinex) Warner.

Mr. Warner moved with his family to Alliance, OH, as a young boy, and in 1998, moved back after working in Maryland.

He was employed at B&W Rush Street Operation as a crane operator for 11 years, then worked as a crane operator at Morgan Engineering for 18 years before working as a manager at Springwood Apartments in Austintown, OH, for four and one-half years.  He then worked for the RAL Company, managing apartments in Frederick, MD.

Mr. Warner was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran, and member of the Limaville Lions Club, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2199 of Minerva, OH.  He was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, gardening and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie J. Benedict Warner, whom he married June 25, 1955; daughters, Beth Ann Kimble of Upper Tract and Kathryn J. (Michael) Warner-Stebner of Brimfield, OH; three grandchildren, Wesley Kimble, Nicholas Kimble and Kelly Kimble, all of West Virginia; one brother Jack (Freda) Warner of Glendale, AZ; and one sister Eldora (William) Vance of Alliance, OH; and his beloved pet, Sadie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Hartman and Virginia Vance, and one brother, Garland Warner.

Services will be held today at 8:00 p.m. at Cassady-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, Alliance, OH.  Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. this evening.

Paul R. Hensil, 85

Paul Richard Hensil, 85, a resident of 103 South Gate Road, Elkins, departed this life Saturday evening, June 19, 2004, at his residence.  He had been in declining health for the last several years.

He was born Monday, March 24, 1919, at Elkins, a son of the late Bertha Hensil Price.  Paul was raised by his maternal grandmother, Christine Hensil.

He was a member of the 1938 graduating class of Elkins High School, a veteran of the United States Army, having served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict, had worked for the former Elkins Tannery, and Dutchoven Bakery until 1952, when he joined the Monongahlia Power Company where he remained until his retirement in March, 1984; after 32 years of service.  He was a member of the H. W. Daniel's Post #29, American Legion for more than 60 years, a member of the Tygarts Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church at Elkins and Elkins Lodge #108 A. F. & A. M., and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling.

On July 25, 1946, at Friendsville, MD, he was married to the former Ida Lou Post, his wife of 57 years, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Vicky L. Simmons and her husband, Douglas of Franklin; three grandchildren, Christopher, Justin, and Haley Simmons, all of Franklin; and three great-grandchildren, Eric, Lucinda, and Kriste Simmons, all of Franklin.

Preceding him in death, besides his mother and grandmother, was a half brother, Jack Price.

Final Rites were conducted from the chapel of the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home, Elkins, on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.  The Reverend Doctor Daniel Bryan officiated, and interment followed at Maplewood Cemetery, Elkins, where full military rites were accorded by the H. W. Daniel's Post #29 American legion and the Tygarts Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and masonic graveside rites were conducted by the Elkins Lodge #108 A. F. & A. M.
