David B. Fields, 69

Retired U.S. Air Force Maj. David B. Fields, 69, of Dayton, OH, passed away Monday, June 11, 2007, at Hospice of DAyton, OH>

He was born on April 6, 1938, to the late Robert Lang and Ruth Hope (Jeffers) Fields.

Mr. Fields received a bachelor's degree in 1961 from Davis & Elkins College, a master's degree in counseling from Ball State University in 1975 and a master's degree in divinity from the United Theological Seminary in 1983.  HE retired from teh U.S. Air Froce in 1984, where he served in the Vietnam War and received a Bronze Star.  After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for various government contractors and retired from SAIC in 2002.  He was also an ordained American Baptist minister and served many churches in the Dayton, OH, area.  

His wife of 48 years, Shirley A. (Adamson) Fields, formerly of Pendleton County, survives.  

Also surviving are two sons, Timothy Jeffers Fields of Enterprise, AL, and Derek Vernon Fields of Dayton, OH; grandson, Jonathan Derek Fields, and his mother, Liann Baker of West Point, UT; brothers, Robert Lang Fields, Jr., of Elkins and retired Capt. Albert Randolph Fields of Valrico, FL; foster son, John Mauro and wife, Debbie, of Monroe, OH; and several sisters-in-0law and brothers-in-law of West Virginia.  

Memorial services were held Sunday at First Baptist Church, Elkins with Dr. Marvin L. Parli officiating.  Interment was in ARlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. 

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek, OH.

Richard D. Wimer

Richard Dale Wimer, 46, of Cherry Grove died Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at his home.

Mr. Wimer was born Nov. 13, 1960, in Franklin and was a son of the late Walter Addie Wimer and Sallie Ann Vandevander Wimer.

He was employed at Judy’s Fencecraft in Bartow.

He was never married. 

Survivors include a son, Richard Allen Adkins of Broadway, VA; three sisters, Lula Bell Turner, Betty Lou Mick and Linda Jean Wimer, all of Cherry Grove; two half-sisters, Rebecca Mae Moses and Lorene Painter, both of Harrisonburg, VA; three brothers, Scottie Lee Wimer of Mount Olive, Martin Junior Wimer of Cherry Grove, and Danny Lee Arbogast of Maryland; a half-brother, Raymond Wimer of Harrisonburg, VA; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pastor Harold Mullenax conducted the funeral Sunday at the Big Run Presbyterian Church in Cherry Grove. Burial was at the Cherry Grove Cemetery.

Beverly Byrd Orr 

A memorial service for Beverly Byrd Orr (1938-2006) was held at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin, on June 17 with REv. Kevin Hand, Franklin Presbyterian Church officiating. 

Mrs. Orr, formerly of Franklin resided in Orlando, FL. 

Attending the service were her husband, Lee Orr, Orlando, FL; three sons, Dean Orr and wife, Colleen, and children, Vance and Melanie of Merritt Island, Fl, Jeff Orr of Rockledge, FL, and Troy Orr and wife, Ruth of Titusville, Fl; a brother, Dr. John W. "Bill" Byrd and wife, Rachel of Charleston,; a nephew, Major Chris Byrd and wife, Monica of Washington, DC; cousins Janie Hawkins and husband, Roy, and Laurie Schroeder and husband Thomas and son Kenton, all of Elkton, VA; Pauline Harman and Browning Boggs, both of Franklin; and Loretta Dice McMahan of King George, VA.  

Jean Smith

Jean Smith, 73, of Upper Tract died Friday, June 15, 2007, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA.

Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 23, 1933, in North Hampton, PA, and was a daughter of the late Michael Schaffer and Johanna Groller Schaffer.

She was employed at Hanover Shoe Company for 14 years.

On Aug. 10, 1963, she married William Eldon Smith, who preceded her in death Nov. 13, 1982.

Surviving are two sons, Butch Deibert of Whitehall, PA, and JR. Smith of Brandywine; a daughter, Debra Strohl of Coplay, PA; two stepdaughters, Debra Smith of Gainesville, FL,. and Elaine DeLong of New Tripoli, PA; a sister, Diane Cruz of Walnutport, PA; two brothers, Stephen Schaffer of North Hampton, PA, and Louis Schaffer of Statington, PA; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters. 

The Rev. Stanley Kile will conduct the funeral Tuesday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial wias at Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract.

Memorial donations may be made to Pendleton County Relay for Life.
