Ruby Louvinia Mowery, 88, of Petersburg, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at the Garrett Memorial Hospital in Oakland, MD.

Mrs. Mowery was born July 10, 1912 in Maryland.

Her husband, James Russell Mowery preceded her in death on June 13, 1988.

Surviving are three step-daughters, Marguerite Flores of Hagerstown, MD, Mary Lockwood of White Plains, MD, and Juanita Mowery of Dallas, TX; one step-son, Donald Mowery of San Diego, CA; and step-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Cherry Hill Cemetery at Upper Tract with Rev. Stanley Kile officiating.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

Elva Louise Daniels, 82, Beverly, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Davis Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Dnaiels was born Oct. 9, 1918, in Cherry Grove and was a daughter of the late Charles Zickefoose and Alice Warner Zickefoose.

She was a 1937 graduate of Circleville High School and a 1951 graduate of Davis and Elkins College. She was employed at Arlington Hall at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, from 1942 to 1943. She was a schoolteacher for 39 years, haveing taught at Backridge in Pendleton County and at Millstone School, Glady, Georgetown and Beverly School in Randolph County. She retired in 1980.

Ms. Daniels was a member of the Woodmen of the World, the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, the Randolph Chapter No. 74, Order of the Eastern Star and the American Association of Retired Persons. She was also a member of the Alpha Shrine No. 19, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, the John Hart Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, the West Virginia Association of Retired School Employees, the Randolph Rebekah Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Beverly United Methodist Church and the Circle of the Church.

On May 6, 1939, she married Ralph A. Daniels, who survives.

Also surviving are two brothers, Kermit Zickefoose, Lake Havasu, AZ, and Bernard Zickefoose, Cleveland OH; a sister, Emmel Bennett, Circleville; two grandchildren Lee David Daniels, Fort Worth, TX, and Holly Anna Saxe, Atlanta, GA; and two great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Jordan Saxe.

One son, David Lee Daniels; and three brothers, Edsel Zickefoose and infants, Elmer and Ella Zickefoose also preceded in her in death.

The Randolph Chapter #74, Order of the Eastern Star, conducted ritualistic services at the Lohr-Barb-Vance Funeral Home in Elkins on June 8. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home chapel, Friday, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Donald L. Fitzwater officiated and interment followed at the Beverly Cemetery at Beverly.

Therman C. Puffenbarger, 62, Sugar Grove, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. Puffenbarger was born Oct. 6, 1938, in Sugar Grove and was the son of the late Lester and Glenna E. Smith Puffenbarger.

He was a veteran of the US Air Force and was a heavy equipment operator.

Surviving are a son, Therman C. Puffenbarger, Jr., Brandywine; two step-sons, Dwane Neil, Brandywine, and Larry Neil, Franklin; two sisters, Loretha J. Bland, Harrisonburg, VA, and Charlene Parrish, New Castle, OK; three brothers, K.D. Puffenbarger and Bobby Puffeenbarger, both of Sugar Grove, and Jimmy Puffenbarger, Rising Sun, MD and three step-grandchildren.

The Rev. Jerry Smith conducted the funeral at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Crummetts Run Church of the Brethren. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the South Fork Rescue Squad.

Walter Byrd Homan, 68, Moorefield, died Friday, June 8, 2001.

Mr. Homan was born Oct. 15, 1932 in Sugar Grove and was a son of the late Virgil R. and Leafy Mitchell Homan.

He graduated from Franklin High School in 1950, attended Potomac State College and West Virginia University and graduated from Ohio State University in 1957 with a doctor of veterinary medicine degree. He began his practice in Moorefield that same year.

Mr. Homan was a member of the Moorefield Town Council from 1961 to 1967. He served on the West Virginia Veterinary Board from 1978 to 1984 and was president from 1979 to 1984. He was a member of the AABP, the AVMA, the Moorefield LionsClub and Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church.

Surviving are four sons, Thomas Reid Homan, Charleston, Kyle Richard Homan and Andrew Todd Homan, both of Winchester, VA, and Dale Byrd Homan, Shepherdstown, a daughter Jenni Lynn Homan Fenton, Fayetteville; four brothers, James Reid Homan and Virgil R. Homan, Jr., both of Sugar Grove, Richard W. Homan, Franklin and John F. Homan, Shepherdstown; six grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Morris M. Homan.

The Rev. Bruce Macbeth conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church. A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Sugar Grove.

Curtis Ray Mitchell, 82, Broadway, VA, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001.

Mr. Mitchell was born Nov. 25, 1918, in Kline and was a son of the late Clay Albert and Myrtle George Mitchell.

He was employed at Rockingham Poultry in the cold storage department before retiring. He was a member of Sunset Drive United Methodist Church in Broadway, VA, and was a US Army veteran of World War II.

On April 17, 1948, he married the former Victorene Runion, who survives.

He is also survived by a brother, Glen Mitchell, Grottoes, VA; and a sister, Maude Kuykendall, Fort Seybert.

The Rev. Jeff Butcher conducted a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Friday at Sunset Drive United Methodist Church.

Roy "Frank" Wheeler, 49, Ridgeley, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at his residence.

Born January 8, 1952, in Cumberland, he was the son of Evaline Wheeler Chaney, PattersonCreek and the late Roy A. Wheeler. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Kathy Hoover.

He was a 1969 graduate of Ridgeley High School and the Mineral County Vo-Tech School.

He was a member of the Woodland Inn Eightball Pool League.

Wheeler was baptized Catholic in March , 2001. He and his wife, Sharon were also remarried the same day.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and very loved friend.

IN addition to his wife, Sharon (Crider) Wheeler, he is also survived by two sons, Roy "Michael" Wheeler, Cumberland, MD, and Franklin "Wayne" Wheeler, Ridgeley; two daughters, Jennifer Miltenberger, and husband, Kevin, Ridgeley, and Amanda Wheeler, Romney; three grandchildren, Kellsea Renee, Kasidea Rachelle and Hannah Elizabeth Miltenberg; his step-father, Edward Chaney, Patterson Creek; one brother, Mike O. Wheeler, Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Nilda Green, Winchester, VA, and JoAnn Hoover, Mt. Jackson, VA; and two step-brothers, Robbie Chaney, Fort Ashby, and Gary Chaney, Levels.

The funeral service was conducted from the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Fort Ashby, on Friday at 1:00 p.m., with the Rev. James Chetock, officiating.

Eugene Hoover, 83, McDowell, VA, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, VA.

Mr. Hoover was born in Doe Hill, Va, a son of the late Cameron William and Bertie Snyder Hoover.

He was a livestock farmer and carpenter and had served in the US Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Highland VFW Post #4989 and the Doe Hill United Methodist Church.

On Oct. 12, 1946, he married Thelma Hicklin Hoover, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Carol H. Glascock, Waynesboro, VA, Linda H. and son-in-law, Jimmie Will, Blue Grass VA, Vickie L. Hoover, McDowell, VA, and Connie R. Hoover, Shipman; one son Dennis and daughter-in-law, Kathy S. Hoover, Mountain Grove, VA; three brothers, William R. Hoover, Staunton,VA, J.Herbert Hoover, Hinton, VA, and Ellis C. hoover, Moyers; six grandchildren, Melody Long, Robin Michael, Kitty Arnott, Jamie Will, Marcus Thomas and Kayla Thomas and two great-grandsons, Curtis and Seth Long.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lurline Hoover Mitchell and a brother, Everett Hoover.

A funeral service was conducted at the Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA, at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial was in the Hoover family cemetery with military honors at the graveside.
