Neva C. Waggy, 96

Neva Cassidy Waggy, 96, a resident of Harrisonburg, VA, died at 6:55 Saturday evening, June 6, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA.

A daughter of the late Bertney A. and Mertie E. Judy Moyers, she was born on Feb. 3, 1913, in Franklin, where she lived her early life and attended Pendleton County Schools.  She made her home in Harrisonburg. VA, in later years and did housecleaning and restaurant work prior to working for Metro Pants, where she retired.  Mrs. Waggy was the oldest member of the Bethlehem Brethren Church.

She was twice married.  Her first husband, Dan Cassidy, and second husband, Roy Waggy, both preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Rosalyn Vanyo of Ormond Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Debbie Wampler of Harrisonburg, VA, Donna Polcin and Dan Vassallo, both of Palm Coast, FL, Mike Vanyo of Ormond Beach, FL, and Susan Vanyo of Atlanta, GA; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Vella Davis of Harrisonburg, VA, Arleta Moyers of Doe Hill, VA, and Myrtle Pennybacker of Union Grove, WI.

Funeral service were held Wednesday at the Smith Creek Church of the Brethren in Franklin with Dr. Thomas Smith and the Rev. Daryl Ritchie officiating.  Interment followed in the Moyers Family Cemetery in Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1920-H Medical Ave., Harrisonburg, VA 22801.

James E. Wilfong, 86

James Emerson Wilfong, 86, of Mt. Crawford, VA, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at his home.

Mr. Wilfong was born on March 1, 1923, in Dry Fork and was the son of the late Stewart Blaine and Verdie Lisabeth Davis Wilfong and step-mother, Bertha K. White.

He was a veteran of the United States Army.  He owned and operated Wilfong’s Auto Service in Bridgewater, VA, for many years.  He was a part-time farmer with a genuine love for animals.  He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren, where he served as church Deacon and served on the church board and building committee.  He was also chairman of the Mt. Pleasant cemetery board.

On June 28, 1952, he married the former Neva Waggy, formerly of Pendleton County, who survives.

Also surviving are four children, Lisabeth Wilfong Wenger and husband, Jack, and Barry James Wilfong and wife, Sharon, all of Harrisonburg, VA, William Stuart Wilfong of Indiana and Linda Wilfong Hall and husband, Jim of Mount Crawford, VA; one brother, Owen Wayne Wilfong and wife, Delores of Harrisonburg, VA; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pastor Henry Elsea Jr. and Pastor Richard Hall conducted a graveside service, Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren.
