Nola Lynn George

Nola Lynn George, 61, of Sugar Grove died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

She was born Nov 3, 1950, at Baltimore, MD, and was the daughter of the late John Bloch and Thelma Davis Bloch.

Also surviving are one daughter, Aileen George of Morgantown; one son, Kristopher George of Ft. Seybert; two stepsons, William George, Jr. Of Roanoke, Va, and Keith George of Farmville, VA; two brothers, John Bloch and Alfred Bloch, both of Baltimore, MD; her mother-in-law, June Greenawalt of Upper Tract; two granddaughters, Alexandria and Susan George; and three step-grandchildren, Brandon, Amber and Conner George.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin with Rev. Rita Beeman officiating. Burial was at Cherry Hill Cemetery at Upper Tract.

He was born Nov 20, 1927, in Brushy Run and was the son of the late Emmitt Kesner and Twila Mae (McGuinness) Kesner.

He was a life member of the Petersburg VFW Post 6454 and a member of American Legion Post 78. He also was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church and a charter member of Landes Ruritan.

Also surviving are four daughters, Betty Miller and husband Allen of Keyser, Joyce Whitworth and husband, Richard of Slidell, LA, and Karen Sue Ours and Lisa Vance and husband, Eddie, all of Petersburg; one son, Timmy D. Kesner and wife, Marcee of Maysville; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with Rev. Rita G. Beeman officiating. Interment was in the Cherry Hill Cemetery, Upper Tract, with military honors by the Petersburg VFW Post 6454 and West Virginia Army Honor Guard.

Doretha Mae (Eye) Dahmer, 83, of Waynesboro, VA, passed away late Friday, June 3, 2011, at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilation Ceneter, Fishersville, VA.

Mrs. Dahmer was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church. She retired as a registered nurse, having been employed at different times with the former Kings’ Daughters Hospital, the former Waynesboro Community Hospital, Western State and the District Home.

Survivors include her daughters, Dana Marrs and husband Robert of Waynesboro, Jane Fitzgerald of Waynesboro and Kim Wright and husband, Chuck of Waynesboro; brother, Sheldon Eye of Waynesboro; sister, Arvonna Balsley of Goochland; brother, Duaine "Bud" Eye of Waynebsoro; grandchildren, Kevin, Jake and Wes Marrs, Colby Dahmer, Carie Colvin, Holly Fitzgerald and McKenzie Fitzgerald; great-grandchildren, Sarah Catherine, Natalie and Elizabeth Marrs, Tyler and Corey Colvin, Kadin Marrs, Zachary Marrs, C.J. Bowden Jr. and Waylon Craig.

She was als preceded in death by a son, Michael Dahmer; a son-in-law, Michael Fitzgerald; a brother-in-law, Masel Dahmer; and two sisters-in-law, Myrtle May and June Eye.

Following cremation, a celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main Street, with Rev. Randy Blankenship officiating.

William Michael “Bill” Allen, 52, of Randallstown, MD, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 29, 2911, at his residence.

He was born in Baltimore, MD, on Aug. 21, 1958, the son of William G. Allen of Maryland and the late Dorothy Fuller Allen (2006).

Mr. Allen was a graduate of Randallstown High School and graduated from a four-year technical college as a journeyman plumber. He was a supervisor at Academy Pools and was a Methodist by faith.

He enjoyed hunting, fourwheeling, golfing and spending weekends with the Warner and Sponaugle families on the Hunting Ground. He and his wife, Brenda, also enjoyed the last four years at their new home, which was the Conda and Bettie Sponaugle home place in Cherry Grove.

Also surviving are a son, Christopher M. Allen of Baltimore, MD; three step-sons, Brent P. Sponaugle, Aaron M. Sponaugle and wife, Abby, and John R. Sponaugle, all of Blue Grass, VA; a step-daughter, Kara R. Sponaugle of Blue Grass, VA; and a brother Michael D. Allen and wife, Pam of Sykesville, MD.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Interment will be in the Warner Cemetery on Hunting Ground.

Stanley Everette Rhodes, 79, of Harrisonburg, VA, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. Rhodes was born on Oct. 22, 1931 in Rockingham County, VA, to the late Emmer Fredrick and Stella Elizabeth Heatwole Rhodes.

He was an active member of Fairview Church of the Brethren in Mt. Clinton, VA, where he served as deacon and on the church board. He participated with the Brethren Disaster Relief Auction as the Church’s designated bidder and coordinator and assisted in the development of a food bank in west Rockingham. He was familiar publicly through his sales position with Electrolux, including sales in Pendleton County and Heritage Memorials and was employed with Wal-Mart for 16 years.

Also surviving are two sons, Quentin A. Rhodes and fiancé, Peggy Kesner of Harrisonburg, VA, and Jeff S. Rhodes of Bridgewater, VA; two daughters, Roonie M. Rhodes of Harrisonburg, VA, and Shirley R. Yukich and husband, John of Davidson, NC; five grandchildren, Jason Rhodes, Peter Yukich, Paul Yukich, Mary Yukich and Thomas Yukich; two great grandchildren, Miriam Rhodes and Adam Rhodes; one sister, Marie Shank of Harrisonburg, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services, conducted by Pastor James A. Hall were held Wednesday at Weavers Cemetery in Harrisonburg, VA.

William Hobert Webb, 71, of Franklin and formerly of Ravencliff in Wyoming County passed away on Friday, June 3, 2011, at his residence in Franklin.

Mr. Webb retired in 1976 as a coal miner from US Steel Coal Company. He was a Pentecostal by faith. He attended John McGraw Elementary School, was a member of the Local United Mine Workers of America (District 29) and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Also surviving are three daughters, Kathy Irick and husband, Roger of Glen Fork, Debbie O’Bryan and husband Edward of Shady Springs, and Pam Tilley of Franklin; a son Mike Webb and wife, Bertha of Churchville, VA; a brother, Steve Webb of Ravencliff; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Pine grove Church of God in Ravencliff with Rev. Melvin Wills officiating. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ravencliff.
