Nellie Grace Kimble, 87

Nellie Grace Kimble, 87, of Petersburg died Saturday, June 3, 2006, at Grant Memorial Hospital in  Petersburg.

Mrs. Kimble was born Nov. 20, 1918, in Brushy Run and was the daughter of the late Charles Wilfong and Sarah Elizabeth Ratcliff Wilfong. 

She was a homemaker and Protestant by faith.  

On Aug. 18, 1937, she married Virgil J. Kimble, who preceded her in death April 30, 2000.  

She is survived by four daughters, Betty Jo VanMeter of Lexington Park, MD, Polly Vance of Lake Milton, OH, Barbara Roberson of Upper Tract and Nancy Cosco of Burke, VA; a son, Bruce Kimble of Petersburg; 10 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Virgil Wayne Kimble and one sister, Mary.

Pastor Greg Rotruck conducted the funeral Tuesday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at Cherry Hill Cemetery, Upper Tract.

Harold Keith "Muggs" Hedrick, 48

Harold Keith "Muggs" Hedrick, age 48, of Maysville, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born April 13, 1958, in Petersburg and was the son of Donna Jean Day Hedrick of Maysville and the late William Keith Hedrick. 

He was employed with boilermakers Local 45 for 23 years.  He was a member of Allegheny Bear Hunters Association and West Virginia Bear Hunters Association.  He was a former member of Maysville Volunteer Fire Company. 

His wife of 27 years, Frances L. (Rohrbaugh) Hedrick, survives. 

Surviving besides his mother, are one son, Wesley Keith Hedrick of Maysville; and four brothers, Harlan R. Hedrick of Petersburg and Carl Wayne Hedrick, Richard F. Hedrick and William Hedrick, all of Maysville.

He also was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Jean Cook VanMeter; maternal grandparents, Russell and Elsie Day and paternal grandparents, Carl and Bessie Hedrick.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with Rev. Stanley Kile officiating.  He was transported in a covered wagon by his fellow Allegheny Bear Hutners to the Maysville Cemetery.  

Memorials may be made to the Bear Hunters Association or charity of choice. 

Patricia "Patty" Carol George, 47

Patricia "Patty" Carol George, 47, of Petersburg, died Friday, June 2, 2006, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Mrs. George was born Jan. 9, 1959, in Petersburg and was the daughter of Carl J. and Esther L. Kuykendall Hipp of Petersburg. 

She was a member of the First Baptist church in Petersburg and was a 1977 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.  She ws employed at Grant county Nursing Home in Petersburg as housekeeping / laundry supervisor, where she had been employed for 18 years.  She was a member of the Petersburg ladies' VfW Post 6454 Auxiliary. 

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, James T. George Jr.; a son, Shawn Eric Hevener; a step-son, Jeremy J. George; two sisters, Brenda Kay Close of Berkeley Springs and Pamela Jo Hedrick of Franklin; one brother, Michael Carl Hipp of Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Larry D. Hipp.

The Revs. James Ash, Richard Longbon and Roger and Ann Harrison conducted the funeral Monday  at Petersburg First Baptist Church. Burial was private.

Cleta M. Liskey, 90

Cleta Margaret Liskey, 90, of Bridgewater, VA, died Tuesday May 30 at her home in Bridgewater, VA. 

She was born in Pendleton County March 20, 1916, and was a daughter of the late John Hamilton and Sadie Sadella (Propst) Puffenbarger.  

Mrs. Liskey was a loving mother and grandmother, as well as an avid gardener.  She worked as a floor supervisor at Metro Pants.  She was a member of Bridgewater Church of the Brethren and Mary Martha Circle.  she was a past member of the Bridgewater fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.  

 She was united in marriage on May 6, 1934, to Robert Thomas Liskey, who preceded her in death on July 27, 1950.  

She is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Studds of Falls Church, VA, Gloria Liskey of Bridgewater, VA, Phyllis Lambert and husband, Larry of Bridgewater, VA, and Margaret E. "Libby" painter and husband "Moe" of Edinburg, VA; two sons, James Liskey and wife, Judy of Winter Park, FL, and Norman Liskey and wife, Linda of Harrisonburg, VA; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. 

She was the last member of her immediate family of 12 sisters and brothers.

She also was preceded in death by two infants and a son, Gary Liskey. 

Funeral services conducted Friday at the Bridgewater church of the Brethren with Rev. Robert E. Alley and Rev. Wendell C. Eller officiating.  Burial followed at the Mill Creek Church Cemetery.

Edwin "Bud" Day, 62

Edwin R. "Bud" Day, 62, entered into rest at home on Wednesday, May 10, 2006, following a six year battle with melanoma.  

Born April 15, 1944, in Franklin, he was the son of the late Ray Day and Geneva Rexrode Dahmer. 

He was the husband of Barbara Callihan Day.  They celebrated their 37th anniversary last November.

Mr. Day was a route salesman for the former Cloister Spring Water Company, retiring in 2002.  After retiring, he worked part time at Garden spot Auto Auction in Ephrata, PA.  he enjoyed spending time with his fmaily and friends in the mountains, bowling, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and WV Mountaineers fan.  A U.S. Army veteran, he served from 1965 to 1967.  He was an active member of the First United Methodist church in Ephrata, PA. 

Surviving in addition to wife, are two sons, Michael S., husband of Marjorie Day of Wrightsville, PA, and Scott M., husband of Melissa Day of Sugarloaf, PA; a grandson, Cameron DEay; and two granddaughters, Bobbi Sue, wife of Aaaron Berkebile, and Kimber Lee Barron; two brothers Rod Day and Rick, husband of Rene Day of Port Matilda, PA; and four sisters, Mary may Eddy of Morgantown, Lynda Robinson of Prospect Park, PA, Darlene Day of Drexel Hill, Pa, and Susan, wife of Brian Denham of Erma, NJ.  

Services were held May 15 at the First United Methodist church, 68 N. Church St., Ephrata, PA, with Rev. Steven Taylor officiating.  Interment followed in the Mt. Zion Evangelical Cemetery, Akron, PA.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to the First United Methodist church, 79 N. Church Rd., Ephrata, PA 17522 or Hospice of Lancaster County, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA  17604-4125.

Funeral arrangements were under direction of Stradling Funeral Homes, Akron/Ephrata, PA.  

Lillian P. Jenkins, 54

Lillian Patricia Jenkins, 54, of Brandywine died Friday, May 19, 2006, at her home. 

Ms. Jenkins  was born March 12, 1952, in Philadelphia, Pa and was a daughter of the late Joseph Martin and Ethel Wahley Martin. 

She was a homemaker and was a member of Bethel Temple Assembly of God.  She graduated from Fu Chu Air Force Base Military High School in Japan.  

Survivors include her fiance, Matthew Tucker of Gloucester, VA; two daughters, Lora Salerno of Sugar Grove and Maggie Martin of Gloucester, VA; a son, Christopher Gregory of Greensboro, NC a sister, Janice Hudson of West Palm Beach, FL; three brohters, Marshall Hudson of Riviera Beach, FL, and Dennis Hudson and John McMinagal, both of West Palm Beach, FL; and four grandchildren, Haylee Gregory, Allison Gregory, Mattie Chilton and Ashley Chilton.  

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Brandy Tucker. 

The Rev. Mark McDowell conducted a memorial service at  the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.

Marjorie Newman, 86

Marjorie Catherine Eye Newman, 85, a resident of Dayton, VA, died June 4, 2006, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA. 

Mrs. Newman was born on Sept 3, 1920, in Sugar Grove and was the daughter of the late Arlie T. and Fannie Lupton Eye.

Mrs. Newman's life revolved around her husband, family and church.  She was a member of the Clover Hill United Methodist church for over 60 years, where she attended the Adult Bible Class and was involved with the United Methodist Women.  She was a member of the clover Hill Extension Homemakers Club and volunteered at the Rockingham County Fair.  She enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables and gardening at her home.  She also enjoyed traveling to Arizona to visit family and friends.  

On Dec. 25, 1941, she married Marion Glen Newman, Jr., who survives. 

Also surviving are three sons, Ken Newman and wife Denise of Mesa, AZ, Bob Newman and wife, Debbie of Roanoke, VA, Phil Newman and wife Melinda of Clover Hill, VA; two daughters, Elaine McDorman and husband, Lenny of Clover Hill, VA, Joyce Trevolt and husband, Roy of Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Virginia Eye of Clover Hill; nine grandchildren, Kelly Newman, Terry Newman, R.C. Trevolt, Jr. and wife, Tara, Ryan Trevolt, Rand Trevolt, Brett Newman, Jeremy Newman, Amy Estep and husband, Kris, and Jennifer Newman; one stepgrandson, Blake Zirk; and two great-grandchildren, Kerstin Trevolt and James Trevolt.  

Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Eye.  

The Revs. Rob Hoskins and Lewis Armentrout conducted a funeral service Wednesday at the Clover Hill United Methodist Church,  Burial followed at the church cemetery.
