Harry Teter, 77

Harry Teter, 77, of Seaman, OH, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Adams County Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Teter Gap, Circleville, on March 20, 1933, the son of the late Mitchell and Bertie (Nelson) Teter.

At the age of 12, he was taken in by the Judy family.  He then moved with the Judy family to Seaman, OH, when he was 17 years of age.  Later he lived with Mable Thatcher in Ohio and helped with her farm.

He is survived by his caretakers Randy and Linda Louiso of West Union, OH; one brother, Jake Teter of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Eye Hartman and Carol Lee Simmons Bodkin, both formerly of Franklin.

Funeral services were held May 17 at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Lewis-Sullivan Chapel in Seaman, OH, with Rev. Ted Kossee officiating.  Burial followed in West Union Cemetery.

Angela Rexrode and Michael and Renee Coleman were present for the service.

E. Dale Harman, 67

Elwood Dale Harman, 67, of West Augusta, VA, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010.

Born June 4, 1942 in Harrisonburg, VA, he was the son of the late Lynn Harman and Bertha Virginia (Simmons) Johnson.

Mr. Harman was a US Navy veteran and was proud to have served on the USS Constellation.  He was the personal bus driver for the Statler Brothers for their entire career and had previously been employed by Quicks.  He was a member of the Dula-Byerly VFW Post 3060 in Deerfield.  He was a life-long NASCAR enthusiast and a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Brig. Gen. James Boggs Camp #1706.

Surviving are two aunts, Mrs. John Harman and Mrs. Virgil Simmons, both of Franklin; and a number of cousins, including Dolly Leslie of Staunton, VA.

A funeral service was held Sunday in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home, West Augusta, VA.  Burial was in West Augusta Cemetery.

Linda S. Hise, 49

A celebration of life for Linda S. Hise will be held on Saturday, June 5, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Monterey, VA, firehouse.

Ms. Hise died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at her home in Monterey, VA.  

William “Bill” Warner, Sr.

William Ralph “Bill” Warner, Sr., 60, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at his residence in Circleville.

He was born in Riverton on Dec. 27, 1949, the son of Ralph Jay Warner of Circleville and the late Nellie Warner (12-26-04).

Mr. Warner was a 1967 graduate of Circleville High School and a member of Circleville United Methodist Church.  He owned and operated B&B Trucking.

On Aug. 1, 1969, he married Barbara “Sharon” Arnold, who survives in Circleville.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and father, are two daughters, Bobbie Jo Chewning and husband, Kenny of Petersburg, and Sherri Marie Bennett and husband, Donnie of Circleville; one son, William Ralph Warner, Jr., and wife, Debbie of Elkins; one sister, Shirley Lamborne and husband, Mike of Circleville; two brothers, Glenn Warner and wife, Janet of Moorefield, and Teddy Warner and wife, Lucinda of Circleville; three grandchildren, Chase, Cody and Laiken; and two step-grandchildren, Hunter and Chelsea.

Funeral services were held Friday at the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin, with Pastor Dan Powers officiating.  Interment was in the Teter Hill Cemetery, Teter Gap, Circleville.

Willie Mae Grogg, 85

Willie Mae Kathleen Hughes Grogg, 85, of Harrisonburg, VA, left her family to walk with the Lord on Saturday, May 29, 2010.

She was born on Aug. 21, 1924, in Mount Solon, VA, and was the daughter of the late James Edward and Allie Rebecca Messersmith Hughes.

She lived in Mount Solon, VA, with her mother until the family moved to Harrisonburg, VA, in the 1950s.

Mrs. Grogg was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church since the 1950s.  Her faith and intimate relationship with the Lord gave her family a loving wife and devoted mother.  Before having her own family, she gave of herself in caring for others as a nurse's aide at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA.  She was very active in the Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) and gave much of her time to the American Heart Association.

Her husband and lifelong companion, William Russell Grogg, formerly of Pendleton County, survives.  They married on Sept. 21, 1957.

Also surviving are four children, James R. Grogg, Charles H. Grogg and wife, Sharon, and Michael G. Grogg, all of Harrisonburg, VA, and Kathleen "Kathy Ann" Sanchez and husband, Johnny of St. Augustine, FL; four grandchildren, John R. Grogg and fiance, Kristin Coons of Harrisonburg, VA, Jennifer D. Jackson and husband, Matthew of Mildenhall, England, Angela N. Bresley and William E. Bresley, both of Harrisonburg, VA; and two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel D. Jackson and Isaac S. Bresley.

Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA, with the Revs. Paul Fiske and William Garber officiating.  Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the RMH Hospice, 235 Cantrell Ave., Harrisonburg, VA 22801.

Lona Alice Ruddle

Lona Alice Ruddle, 82, of Franklin passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2010, at the Pendleton Manor.

Mrs. Ruddle was born in Ruddle on Sept. 16, 1927, the daughter of the late David Wellington and Emma Florence Smith Meadows.

She was a homemaker, worked at Mountain-State Trout Hatchery and was a member of the Ruddle Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, Virgil Lee Ruddle, preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 1988.

Surviving are a daughter, Martha Lee Kimble and husband, Charles of Franklin; two grandchildren, Christopher Ruddle and wife, Melanie, and Charles Lee Kimble; and three great-grandchildren, Shania Kimble, Makailyn Ruddle and Ryelan Ruddle.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, Harlan Roy Ruddle and Leo Wayne Ruddle; four brothers, Hubert, Grayson, Carl and Charlie; and one sister, Annie Armentrout.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin, with Rev. Kevin Hand and Pastor Regina Beard officiating.  Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin.

Memorials may be made to the Ruddle Presbyterian Church.

Ralph H. White, 70

Ralph Howard White, 70, of Wooster, OH, and formerly of Dry Fork died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at his home.

He was born April 8, 1939, in Dry Fork and was the son of Leona (Kerns) White Ramsier of Wooster, OH, and the late Hoye White.

Mr. White was a carpenter by trade and served in the United States Army.

His wife, Barbara White of Wooster, OH, survives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are two sons, Ralph H. White, Jr., of Waldorf, MD, and Timothy White of Mechanicsville, MD; two granddaughters, Megan and Lacey White; four sisters: Lillian Lambert of Massillon, OH, Helen Lambert of Canton, OH, Lois Weaver of Shreve, OH, and Bonnie Hedrick of Seneca Rocks; and one brother, Carl White of Medina, OH.

He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Herbert Ramsier; and two infant sisters, Wanda and Sue White.

At the request of the deceased, his remains were cremated.

Arrangements were under the direction of the McIntire-Davis-Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, OH.

Sidney Stroop, 85

Sidney “Spike” Ralston Stroop, 85, of Harrisonburg, VA, died May 30, 2010, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Edom, VA, and was a son of the late Fredrick W. and Maude Day Stroop.

Mr. Stroop had worked as a sheet metal mechanic for Shenandoah Manufacturing and Dunham Bush, both in Harrisonburg, VA.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Timberville, VA, where he served in the music department and was an usher.  A recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, he served in the US Army during WWII.  He was a well known musician and songwriter in the valley, having sung with his wife on the Valley Barn Dance.  Along with his wife, he was inducted into the Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame in August of 2008.  Throughout his life, he obtained numerous fiddle and guitar awards.

On Dec. 12, 1945, he married the former Vallie May Johnson, who survives.

Also surviving are three daughters and son-in-law, Patricia Gale Weaver of Mathias, Gloria Jeanne Jenkins and husband, Dwight of Luray, VA, and Irene Stroop of Harrisonburg, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Justin Wayne Stroop and wife, Mary of Brandywine; two sisters, Mildred Sherman and Dorothy Bean, both of Mount Jackson, VA; one brother, Eugene Stroop of Mount Jackson, VA; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great- grandchildren; extended family, the Phillip and Jenny Clark family and Jerry Neff; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Vernon Franklin Stroop; three sisters, Frances Keister, Mamie Stroop and Georgie Nell Hamilton; and two brothers, Donald Stroop and Freeman Stroop.

Pastors Danny Sawyer, Guy Ferrell, Glen Turner, and Archie Webster conducted a funeral service Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church, Timberville, VA.  Burial with military honors followed at Singers Glen Cemetery.

Margie Thompson, 85

Margie Alice Cavalier Thompson, 85, a resident of Elkins departed this life Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Valentine’s Personal Care Home at Elkins.

She was born Friday, May 1, 1925, over the old Family Drug Store in downtown Elkins.  She was a daughter of the late Claude C. Cavalier and Russie Barlow Cavalier.

She attended the schools of Randolph and Harrison counties.  During World War II, she moved to Akron, OH, to join the war effort on the home front.  She became an inspector of the tail sections of the B-32 Bomber.  She was a noted portrait painter, taught ceramics at adult education classes at Elkins High School and was a former secretary for the Third Ward School.

She was a member of the John Hart Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Randolph Chapter # 74, Order of the Eastern Star and the First Church of Christ on Worth Avenue, Elkins.

On July 31, 1945, at Elkins, she was married to Edmund A. “Eddie” Thompson, who preceded her in death, April 4, 1998.

Surviving are one daughter, Margaret Ann Chiasson and husband, Robert of Washington, DC, and Onego; and one grandson, Daric Alexander Foster, of Cincinnati, OH.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Also preceding her in death was her only sister, Louise Cavalier Standel.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins with Kent Price, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating.  Interment followed at the Beverly Cemetery at Beverly.
