D. William VanMeter

David William "Bill" VanMeter, 27, of Upper Tract, died Saturday, May 26, 2007, at his home.

He was born Nov. 2, 1979, at Elkins and was the son of Lester David Sr. and Elaine Lahman VanMeter of Petersburg.

He had worked at American Woodmark at Moorefield and Tri-County Tire at Petersburg.  

On March 27, 2207, he married Jessica Renee Ketterman VanMeter, who sruvives. 

Also surviving are two daughters, Alyssa Lynn VanMeter of Whitmer and Francis Marie VanMeter of Upper Tract; one son, David William VanMeter Jr. of Upper Tract;  two sisters, Crystal Thorne of Moorefield and Holly M. Bennett of Circleville; and one brother, Lester VanMeter Jr of Upper Tract.

Funeral services were Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Petersburg, with Bishop J. Stephen Kimble officiating.

Memorials may be made to the family, c/o Lester VanMeter, P.O. Box 37, Upper Tract, WV 26866.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. 

Mary E. Eye

Mary Eva Eye, 96, a resident of Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, VA, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Oak Lea.

Mrs. Eye was born Aug. 5, 1910, in Pendleton County and was a daughter of the late Floyd Tillman and Sarah Catherine Simmons Rexrode.

She worked as a seamstress at Sancar, Inc., before moving to Long Island, NY, in 1954, and worked as a kitchen aid for the Nesconset, Long Island School System.  In 1983, she moved back to Harrisonburg, VA, and was a member of the Muhlenberg Lutheran Church in Harrisonburg, VA.

On Nov. 10, 1932, she married William Ray Eye; he preceded her in death in July 1971.

Surviving are a son, Harry E. Eye of Long Island, NY; two daughters, Ora Mae Shifflett of Elkton, VA, and Helen E. Gaiewski of Harrisonburg, VA; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.

She also was preceded in death by one son, CArl Edgar Eye. 

Pastor Joseph Vought conducted the funeral Sunday at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church in Harrisonburg, VA.  Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery near Sugar Grove.

Beulah N. Gorman 

Beulah Nell Lambert Gorman, 86, of Dover, DE, went to be with the Lord on Monday May 21, 2007.  she had resided at the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin since August 2007. 

Mrs. Gorman was born Dec. 13, 1920, in Circleville, and was a daughter of the late Ernest John Lambert and Lillie Jane Moyers Lambert. 

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Church of the Brethren.  She attended Goshen one-room school.

She was well-known for her delicious and beautifully decorated cakes, her intricate and beautifully crocheted tablecloths and afghans, her wonderful homemade rolls and her boundless drive to get things done.  She cared about people and was always there for those in need and was generous in giving what she could.  She was the quintessential example of "turn the other cheek" and "do unto others as you would have them do unto you.'  She believed in God and tried to live her life as a good Christian.  It has always been said that she had a hard life growing up and that didn't have much...but oh how she did turn that around and make herself into a positively wonderful and talented person.  Again, she set the Christian example of how to live a life...the way god Dealt it.  She was a friend to everyone, and everyone was her friend.  To each of her children she was given a part of herself...and all of them together could not make one of her.  

On May 16, 1942, she married John Frederick Gorman, who preceded her in death May 19, 1991. 

She is survived by her sons, Vernon Elwood Lambert and Sheldon Lee Gorman (Anna) all of Dover, DE, and William Calvert Gorman (Florence) of DeFuniak Springs, FL; her daughters, Edith Karen Whitaker (Bill), Barbara Nell Cool, Patricia Ann Tieman (Jake) all of Dover, DE, and Ruth Ellen Simmers of Franklin; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Ruth G. (Harold) Bodkin, Sterle E. (Joy) Lambert, Ronny S. (Corrine) Lambert and Nancy L. (David) Fulk; and many nieces and nephews.

She also is preceded in death by a son, John Frederick Gorman, II; a brother, Benny Encil Lambert; a sister, Mary Louise Keplinger; and a grandson, Sheldon Lee Gorman, Jr.

Pastor Daryl Ritchie conducted a memorial service Thursday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin,.  Burial will be at the Moyers family cemetery on the Charles Lambert farm, Smith Creek Road, Franklin, at a later date.

Richard Hinkle, 84

Richard D. Hinkle, 84, of Seneca Rocks died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg. 

Mr. Hinkle was born April 18, 1923, in Riverton and was a son of the late Lloyd Hinkle and Gettie Lee Hedrick Hinkle. 

He was a farmer. 

Survivors include his lifelong companion, Zernie Hinkle of Seneca Rocks; a daughter, Carolyn Isner of Dorcas; a son, Ronald Lee Hinkle of Seneca Rocks; a brother, Carl Hinkle of Painesville, OH; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

He also was preceded in death by three sons, Michael, Danny and Steve Hinkle; seven brothers, Teddy R., Roy, Cletus, John Roscoe, Fred, James, Arvil and Victor Hinkle; and two sisters, Ruth Ross and Sylvia Flanagan. 

The Rev. Mark McAllister conducted the funeral Thursday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.
