Gary Steve Hammer, 59, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at his home in Boyds, MD.

Mr. Hammer was born Feb. 19, 1942, in West Virginia, and was the son of Sylvia Hartman Hammer of West Virginia and the late Raymond Bird Hammer.

He was the husband of Nancy Eye Hammer, who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Terry S. Hammer of Lusby, MD, Micki L. Heineken of Odenton, Md. Douglas J. Myers of Hagerstown, MD, Michael A. Hammer of Lusby, MD, and Jon Eric Myers and Candace L. Myers, both of Boyds, MD; a sister Linda K. Conrad of West Virginia; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 24, at 12;00 p.m. at the Germantown Baptist Church in Germantown, MD. Interment followed in the Germantown Baptist Cemetery in Germantown, MD>

William Kenneth "Bill" Mitchell, 75 of Sugar Grove, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Mitchell was born June 1, 1925, at Sugar Grove and was the son of the late Benjamin Hurl and Hattie Sylvia Eye Mitchell.

He had attended West Virginia University. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a truck driver for Smith's Transfer and had also served as a project engineer for the Virginia Department of Highways, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the Francis Asbury United Methodist Church at Sugar Grove, a member of the Sugar Grove Lions Club, Franklin Moose Lodge, Masonic Lodge A.M.&F.M., and served as commander for the Sugar Grove V.F.W. Post 9666.

On August 25, 1950, he married Betty Crider Mitchell, who preceded him in death on Nov. 21, 1984.

Surviving are two daughers and sons-in-law, Pamela and Ralph Miller of Pleasant Valley, Va, and Joan and Michael Clarke of Sugar Grove; one sister, Talma Hannan of Gelnivlle, NC; one brother, Delmar Hurl Mitchell of Sugar Grove; and three grandchildren, Amy Elizabeth Miller of Harrisonburg, VA, and Joshua John William Clarke and Matthew Michael Clarke, both of Sugar Grove.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin with the Rev. Dennis Shoemaker officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. tonight at the Kimble Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the South Fork Rescue Squad or the South Fork Fire Department.

Jimmie Blaine Harman, 79 of Petersburg, died Wednesday., May 23, 2001, at the Martinsburg. He had been a resident of the Care Haven Center, Inc., in Martinsburg since Nov. 11, 2000.

Mr. Harman was born June 20, 1921, in Petersburg and was the son of the Preston V. and Rebecca (Yokum) Harman.

He graduated from Petersburg High School in 1941. He was a farmer and owned Harman's Well Drilling for several years. He was a coach and an active supporter of the Grant County Athletic Department. He was a member of the Lighthouse Community Church in Maysville.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Hazel A. (Jordan) Harman, a resident of the Care Haven Center, Inc., in Martinsburg; three daughters, Janet Weese of Warrenton, VA, Anne Harman of Upper Tract, and Martah Ours of Dorcas; six grandchildren, Randy Weese, Jr., Scotty Weese, Jeremiah Ours, Holly Ours, Stephanie Kimble and Steven Kimble; and one great-grandson, Alexander Weese.

He was also preceded in death by one son James Eston Harman; two sisters, Emily Smith and Minnie Hedrick; four brothers, infant Edward Glenn Harman, Ervin G. Harman, Howard Harman and Fred W. Harman.

The Rev. Joseph Eversole conducted the funeral at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lighthouse Community Church in Maysville. Burial follwed in the Lahmansville Cemetery in Lahmansville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lighthouse Community Church in Maysville.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

McClellan C. Rhodes, 91, a lifelong resident of Randolph County and a resident of Glady, died on Wednesday, May 23, at Colonial Place in Elkins.

He was born January 30, 1910, in Pendleton County, a son of the late Charles Oley Rhodes and Lena Waybright Rhodes.

Mr. Rhodes was a Coal Miner and a member of the Glady Brethren Church.

On December 25, 1934, at Meyersdale, PA, he was married to the former Della Luemma Baker, who preceded him in death, August 23, 1997.

Surviving are three sons, Roy Rhodes, Galdy, Robert Rhodes, Mouth of Seneca and Roger Allen Rhodes, Glady; one daughter, DellaRhodes Cork, Stuarts Draft, VA; 11 brothers, James, Arthur, Everett, Charles, Raymond, Earl, Forrest, Willie, Harry, Ralph and Ronald; eight sisters, Loemma, Fay, Marie, Margie, Wretha, Alice, Jean and Roseanna; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

One brother, Lloyd Rhodes, and one sister, Donna Carr, preceded him in death.

Final rites were conducted at the Lohr-Barb-Vance Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Reverend Walter H. Blough officiating and interment followed at the Rhodes Family Cemetery in Glady.

Mabel Susan Riggleman, 87, Mitchell Mountain near Kline, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at th ehome of her son Leroy Riggleman, in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mrs. Riggleman was born July 19, 1913, in Kline and was a duaghter of the late Charles and Ina May Kesner Mitchell.

She was a homemaker and a member of the South Mill Creek Church of the Brethren.

On Dec. 5, 1931, she married Jesse James Riggleman, who died July 22, 1998.

Surviving are a son Leroy Dale Riggleman, Harrisonburg, Va; two sisters, Leoda A. Grogg, Brandywine, and Hazel M. Rexrode, Woodstock elder Care, Woodstock, VA; four brothers, Cletus R. Mitchell and Stanley Mitchell, both of Port Republic VA, and Roy Mitchell and Charles Mitchell both of Franklin, two grandsons and anumber of great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, two brothers and one granddaughter.

Glenn Sites conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin. Burial was at the Kline Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to south Mill Creek Church of the Brethren, the Upper Tract Rescue Squad or a charity of choice.

Reba J. Hemlock, 90, died Sunday May 2, 2001, at Parma Community General Hopsital in Parma, OH. She had resided in Broadview Heights, OH.

Born January 9, 1911, in Sugar Grove, she was the daughter of the late John and Florence (Waggy) Simmons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Hemlock

Surviving are a daughter, Dolores Arpidone of Broadview Heights, OH; one sister, Mary Waltrip; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death was one daughter, Marilyn Spevak.

Funeral services were held May 11 at the Ridgewood United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Longsworth officiating. Cremation was held at the Busch Crematory, Parma, OH.
