Bennie Howard Nelson
Bennie Howard Nelson, 83, of Franklin, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.
He was born at Dry Run on April 11, 1928, the son of the late John Adam and Laura Jane Lambert Nelson.
Mr. Nelson attended Circleville High School and graduated from Dundalk Community College. He retired in
1989 from Eastern Stainless Steel in Baltimore, MD. He was an active member of the United Steel Workers of America, Local #1245.His wife, Jeanne Mae MacDonald, preceded him in death in 1989.
Surviving are a daughter, Ivi Collier and husband, Jeff of Baltimore, MD; a son, Bennie H. Nelson, Jr. of
Baltimore, MD; a brother, Jesse Nelson and wife, Dorothy of Franklin; dear friend, Kay Alt of Franklin; three grandchildren, Laura ForsytheShaffer, Sarah Nelson Collier and Tyler Joseph Nelson.He was also preceded in death by seven brothers, Elmer, Harry, Richard, George, Edgar, Glenn and Bob; and an
infant sister, Catherine Jane Nelson.Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Rev. Stanley Kile
officiating. Interment was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton, with military graveside services provided by Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.Memorials may be made to Mountain Hospice or Pendleton Manor.

Velma Ellena Smith, 88, of Monterey, VA, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at The Springs Nursing Center.
Born April 12, 1923, in Pendleton County, she was a daughter of the late Edward Terry and Ada Catherine
(Bowers) Propst.Mrs. Smith was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and retired from Hanover Shoe Company. She
enjoyed time spent working in both her garden and flowers, as well as watching and feeding birds.Her husband of 65 years, Randolph Miller “Dot” Smith, preceded her in death on March 12, 2006.
Surviving are a daughter and a son-in-law, Geri and Joe Tuning of Hot Springs, VA; a son and daughter-in-law,
Raymond and Betty Smith of Monterey, VA; three grandchildren, Greg and Tim Tuning of Burnsville, VA, and Katrina Smith of Strasburg, VA; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Wade and Renee Tuning; a sister, Arleta Mullens of Orange, VA; and a special friend, Carol Furr of Monterey, VA.She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Laurine Bowman and Sylvia Davis; and three brothers, Raymond,
Clinton and William Propst.A funeral service was conducted Friday at Obaugh Funeral Home,. McDowell, VA, with the Rev. Andre

Elsie Lou Vance, 81, of Onego passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011, at her residence.
Born May 18, 1930, in Teterton, she was the daughter of the late Preston and Mae Bennett Hedrick.
She was a member of the Onego Church of the Brethren, where she served as church secretary and Sunday
School teacher.On June 7, 1950, she was married to Dale Vance, who preceded her in death April 20, 2002.
Surviving are two daughter, Patricia Rexrode and husband Dick of Franklin, and Nancy Reed and husband, Carl
of Seneca Rocks; a son, Sam Vance and wife, Vickie of Elkins; five grandchildren Ryan Vance, Maria Reed, Jordan Reed, Brandon Rexrode, and Stephanie Rexrode and seven great grandchildren, Logan, Emilee, C.J., Willie Bruce, Zack, Jayden and Raven Angel.She was also preceded in death by two infant brothers; two brothers, Clinton Hedrick and Preston Hedrick, Jr., one
half sister, Lillie Kimble and three sisters, Maria Mallow Harman, Sudie Wyatt and Virginia Eye.Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Bible Missionary Church, Onego, with Dan Ewald and Ken
Anderson officiating. Interment will be at Vance Cemetery, Roaring Creek, Onego.Memorials may be made to the Seneca Rocks Volunteer Fire Department.
