Bond Dove

Bond Dove, 81, of Riverton, died Friday, May 18, 2007, at the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.

Mr. Dove was born June 18, 1925, he was the son of the late Russell Dove and Minnie Warner Brown. 

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the VFW No. 6862.  He retired in 1987 as a school bus driver for Pendleton County Schools.  He attended Dixie Schoolhouse and was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley M. Nelson Dove;  three daughters, Lucinda Snyder and Jenny Kisamore, both of Riverton, and Betty Crigler of Mount Crawford, VA; and three sons, Lee Dove of Riverton, Allen Dove of Franklin and Bill Dove of Maysville.

He also was preceded in death by one son, Bond Dove Jr.; and two half brothers, James Brown and Tom Brown.\

The Rev. Mark McAllister condcuted a graveside service Sunday at North Fork Memorial Cemeteryin Riverton, with military honors by the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pendleton County Rescue Squad or Grant County Nursing Home.

Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Laura J. Kemp, 65

Mrs. Laura Jean Rodgers Kemp, 65, of Petersburg, formerly of Rockville, MD, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at the home of her brother, Clayton Rodgers in Arthur.

Mrs. Kemp was born March 7, 1942, in Petersburg and was the daughter of Ethel V. Pratt Rodgers Sherman of Arthur and the late Edwin N. Rodgers. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Samuel H. Rodgers.

She was a retired accountant. 

In addition to her mother, she is also survived by a son, George W. Kemp of Maryland; two daughters, Suenette Edwards of Gainsville, VA, and Samantha A. Ours of Perry, KS; three sisters, Patricia A. Slifer of Spavinaw, OK, Mary E. Hedrick of Maysville and Martha K. Alt of Upper Tract; seven brothers, Dallas E. Rodgers of Washington, DC, Clayton D. Rodgers of Arthur, Forrest G. Rodgers of Franklin, Robert W. Rodgers of Baltimore, Richard A. Rodgers of Petersburg, Dawn G. Rodgers of Moorefield and Douglas B. Rodgers of Augusta; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Samuel H. Rodgers. 

Tthe Rev. Larry Cantu assisted by Forrest G. Rodgers conducted the funeral Saturday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg.

Wilda L. DePoy, 94

Wilda L. DePoy, 94, of Bridgewater, VA, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at the Bridgewater Home. 

Mrs. DePoy was born April 5, 1913, in Gassaway and was a daughter of the late Jack and Edna Simmons Phillips.

She was a retired sales clerk. 

In July 1934, she married Franck C. DePoy, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son Jack F. DePoy of Harrisonburg, VA; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. 

Her body has been cremated. A graveside service will be held at the DePoy Family Cemetery in Fort Seybert at a later date. 

Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater, VA.   

Evelyn Getz 

Evelyn Getz, 99, of Brandywine died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA. 

Mrs. Getz was born March 9, 1908, in Timber Ridge and was the daughter of the late Harmon Bennett and Martha Nelson Bennett. 

She was a homemaker and a housekeeper in Cumberland, MD, for many years.  She was a member of the Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren and attended North Fork one-room schools. 

Her husband, Ray C. Getz, preceded her in death June 3, 1991. 

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Ed and Helen Troutman of Brandywine, her caregivers for many years. 

She also was preceded in death by eight brothers, Akie, Acie H. Orville, Jay, Isaac, Jacob "JM", Denver and Lester; and three sisters, Eliza, Ollie Vada and Sadie Belle. 

Pastors Patrick Godfrey and Harold Cullers conducted the funeral Saturday at Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren.  Burial was at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine by Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren.  

Pauline Flanary

Pauline Flanary, 83, of Hagerstown, MD, died May 21, 2007, at Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin. 

Born May 24, 1923, in Jonesville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Tyler and Nellie Cope.

She was Methodist by faith. 

On July 20, 1951, she married John Melvin Flanary, who preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1995. 

Surviving are six daughters, Irene Hise and husband, James of Franklin, Inez Halterman and partner, Eddie Hall of Tenth Legion, VA, Dukey Allison and husband, Mel of Crystal River, FL, Edie Harper and husband, Junior of Franklin, Fay Domer of New Jersey and Freda Flanary of Martinsburg; 12 grandchildren, Shelley Marshall and husband, Matt of Blue Grass, VA, Cari Neil and husband, Kevin of Hightown, VA, John Allison and Lea Allison of Crystal River, FL, Cory Domer and Shylon Domer, T. Marie Fraley of Shepherdstown, Teanna Hilker and husband, Freddie of Martinsburg, Shawn Halterman and partner, Dawn Hottinger, Traci Mallow and husband, Mike, Latisha McFadden and husband, Billy, and Abby Harper and partner, K.C. Hutchinson, all of Franklin; seven great-grandchildren, Chelsey Allison of Crystal River, FL, Presley Marshall of Blue Grass, VA, Breanna Judy, Damiaen and Destiny Harper and Cheyenna and Kayla Halterman all of Franklin; one brother, PEte Cope and wife, Sally of Paris, TN; one sister, Rosie Cope of Big Stone Gap, VA; a special sister-in-law, Mary Moore; and special friends, Artie Patry and Carol Houser, all of Hagerstown, MD. 

She is also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. 

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at Minnich Funeral Home in Hagerstown, MD.  Arrangements also were handled by Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin.

Eva H. Mallow

Eva Hedrick Mallow, loving mother of 18, 95, a former resident Elkins, and more recently a resident of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, departed this life early Friday morning, May 18, 2007, in Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins.

She was born Saturday, June 3, 1911, at Onego, a daughter of the late George and Anna Harper Hedrick.

Mrs. Mallow was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She attended the one-room school at Brushy Run and was a member of the Brethren Church by faith. She worked hard raising her children as a homemaker and was also employed as a housekeeper in private homes and at the Delmonte Hotel. She was a wonderful, loving mother who spent her life making sure her kids were taken care of and safe. 

On Oct. 27, 1929, at Riverton, she was married to Dayton Mallow, who preceded her in death Nov. 21, 1955.

Surviving her are five sons, William “Buck” Mallow and wife, Mae, Herman Mallow and wife, Patty, Dayton “June” Mallow and wife, Sandy, Paul Mallow and wife, Sandy, and Jack Mallow and wife, Carol, all of Elkins; seven daughters, Ruthlene Rhodes and husband, Earl, of French Creek, Emma Phillips and husband, Steve, of Beverly, Eva Jean Rhodes of Pennsylvania, Dolly Nelson of Ohio, Marie “Nip” Poling and husband, Clayton, and Patty Channels and husband, Lawrence, all of Elkins, and Rosanna Everhart of Montrose; 36 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Gladys Gordon; four infant daughters; one infant son; three sons-in-law; two grandsons; six brothers, Denver, Lester, Elmer, Ison, Blonco and John Hedrick; and four sisters, Gertie Ketterman, Mae Ketterman, Derry Kisamore and Ellie Harper. 

Funeral services were held Monday at the Brethren Church, Onego, with Pastor Larry Poling officiating.  Interment followed at the Mallow Cemtery, Onego. 

 Lohr & Barb Funeral Homeof Elkins was in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn V. Blosser, 82

Evelyn Virginia Bodkins Blosser, 82, of Dayton, VA, died Sunday, May 20, 2007 at Rockingham Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA. 

Mrs. Blosser was born Dec. 22, 1924, in Brandywine and was a daughter of the late Russell Forest and Cleta Virginia Turner Bodkin.

She lived her early life in Mount Clinton, VA, where she attended school.  She was employed at People's Drug Store, where she was manager of the Fountain in Harrisonburg, VA.  She moved back to Lilly, VA, and worked at Wampler Foods (WLR) in Hinton, VA, before retiring.  She attended Mount Olive Presbyterian Church.  

On Aug. 21, 1944, she married Frederick Paul Blosser JR., who preceded her in death July 21, 1976.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Allen Blosser and Roger Wayne Blosser, both of Dayton, VA; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; three step-grandchildren; and one step-great-granddaughter. 

Wendell "Sonny" Henkel conducted the funeral Wednesday in Harrisonburg, VA.  Burial followed at Moutnt Horeb Cemetery.
