Jimmy B. Hinkle

Jimmy B. Hinkle, 60, of Riverton died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Hinkle was born Oct. 31, 1947, at Simoda and was the son of the late Richard S. and Zena Vandevander Hinkle.

He was employed at North Fork Disposal and was a laborer.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard. 

Survivors include a daughter, Angel Hinkle of Riverton; a son, Chad Hinkle of Petersburg; a granddaughter, Katlyn Goldizen; and a special friend, Brenda Kimble of Riverton.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Rex Hinkle.

The Rev. Mark McAllister conducted the funeral Tuesday at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at Mallow Cemetery in Riverton with military honors by members of the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.

Charles "Chuck" R. Byers

Charles Richard "Chuck" Byers, 53, of Falling Waters and formerly of Franklin, died of a massive heart attack on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at the City Hospital in Martinsburg. 

Mr. Byers was born Dec. 30, 1954, in Harrisonburg, VA, and was the son of Virginia "Jinny" Sheetz Byers of Franklin and the late Harry Lawrence Byers Jr.

He was a project coordinator and land surveyor with the Timmons Group in Leesburg, VA.  He was a 1973 graduate of Franklin High School and graduated from Glenville State College in 1980.  He was a member of Franklin Presbyterian Church.  

While growing up in Franklin, he was an avid caver, receiving his patch for completing the 10 most difficult vertical caves in West Virginia.  He also enjoyed backpacking and skiing.  More recently, he enjoyed scuba diving while vacationing on the island of Caracao.  Another of his great loves was spending time with friends while water skiing and boating on the Potomac River.  He was a member of the Izak Walton League of America, Berkeley Chapter.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Harry Lawrence "Larry" Byers, III, and wife, Lois of Franklin; three nephews, Joshua, Elijah and Joel Byers; and one niece, Rebekah Byers. 

He also was preceded in death by one brother, Jefferson read Byers, on Feb. 9, 1973.

The Rev. Kevin Hand conducted the funeral Sunday at Franklin Presbyterian Church.  Burial was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin by the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.

Michael Hevener, 40

Michael Layne Hevener, 40, of Harrisonburg, VA, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at his home.

Mr. Hevener was born Aug. 7, 1967, in Harrisonburg, VA, and was a son of Marie VanFossen Hevener and the late Ray Clinton Hevener.

He was self-employed in Lawn Care Service and attended Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren in his youth.

On Nov. 9, 1992, he married Roberta Siever, who survives.

He is also survived by his children, Michael L. Hevener Jr., Quinton Hevener, Ashley Hevener, Brittany Hevener and Michaela Hevener, all at home; two brothers, Joseph R. Hevener of Harrisonburg, VA, and Dale C. Hevener of Bridgewater, VA; three sisters, Wanda Hevener Good of Linville, VA, and Janet Hart and Bonita Giardina, both of Harrisonburg, VA; and his grandmother, Louise VanFossen May of Staunton, VA.

The Revs. Terry Wyant, Reuben Horst and Don Kuhns will conduct the funeral today at 2 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren Cemetery near Harrisonburg, VA. at www.kygers.com

Lester Dahmer, 68

Lester P. Dahmer, 68, of Clarksville, IN, died Monday, May 12, 2008, at University of Louiseville Hospital.

Mr. Dahmer was born in Franklin and was the son of the late John E. and Ola Simmons Dahmer. 

He was a retired maintenance millwright for I.C.I. and also retired maintenance worker for Clarksville Community Schools.  He was an honorably discharged Army veteran, a member of Branchville Masonic Lodge No. 496, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, IN, Indianapolis Shrine Club, Order of Eastern Star No. 327 Jeffersonville, Hobart Beach VFW in New Albany, and the Church of Christ in Franklin.  

HE is survived by his wife. Adaj Keilman Dahmer; a daughter, Sheila Ann Baugh (Robert) of Clarksville, IN: and a sister, Mary Susan McDorman of Dayton, VA. 

Mr. Dahmer was preceded in death by four brothers, Curtis, Robert, Denver and John Lee Dahmer; and a sister, Sarah Crawford. 

Funeral services were held Friday at Chapman Funeral Home, Clarksville, IN, with burial in Walker Cemetery in Branchville, IN.

Carroll Pope, 91

Carroll Woodrow Pope, 91, of Woodstock, VA, died Friday at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. 

Mr. Pope was born June 21, 1916, in Franklin, a son of the late Henry and Mary Jane Bagby Pope. 

He served in the U.S. Air Force and had been a furniture store owner.  He was a member of First Baptist Church, Woodstock, VA, Kemper Masonic Lodge #60 and 60-year member of American Legion Post #199. 

His wife, Peggy J. Pope, preceded him in death. 

Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Pope of Upperville, VA; a son, Jerry Pope of Blackstone, VA; a brother, George H. Pope of Williamsburg, VA; and one grandchild Michelle Pullen of Manassas, VA. 

The funeral was conducted Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Woodstock, VA, with the Rev. Michael Moore officiating.  Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.
