Nellie F. Mallow 94

Nellie F. Mallow, 94, a resident of the Dawn View Center, Fort Ashby and formerly of Keyser died Saturday, May 14, 2005. 

Born on June 28, 1910, at Deer Run, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Dorothy Ann (Smith) Simmons. 

Mrs. Mallow was a homemaker and was a member of the Duling United Methodist Church, Keyser. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Ray Mallow, on April 29, 1983. 

Surviving are two sons, Raymond L. Mallow and wife Bette of Keyser, and Roy Wayne Mallow of Bridgewater, VA; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two daughters-in-law, Marjorie L. Mallow and Sarah Mallow; and two brothers, Vernon and Curtis Simmons.

Funeral services were conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Daryl M. Elliott officiating. 

Interment was in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

Casper R. Moyers, 85

Casper Ray Moyers, 85, of Harrisonburg, VA, died Friday, May 13, 2005, at his home. 

Mr. Moyers was born Oct. 11, 1919, in Franklin and was a son of the late Grover and Effie Simmons Moyers. 

He attended school in Franklin and lived in Woodbridge, VA, before moving to Harrisonburg, VA, in 1954.  He was a serviceman for AmeriGas for 31 years and was self-employed for 17 years before retiring in 1985. 

Mr. Moyers was a member of the Brethren Church and the American Rifleman's Association.  He was the recipient of an honorary award from the Harrisonburg Lions Club.  

On Nov. 3, 1939, he married the former Iva Thompson, who preceded him in death Feb. 17, 2000. 

He is survived by a daughter, Linda Gainer of Keezletown, VA; three sons, Ray E. Moyers of Linville, VA, Ronald S. Moyers of McGaheysville, VA, and Johnny A. Moyers of Harrisonburg, VA; a brother, Otis Moyers of Hinton, VA; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number a nieces and nephews. 

Edwin Eckard, 79

Edwin Stuart Eckard, 79, a husband of Dorothy (Frank) Eckard of Staunton, VA, died at 8:40 a.m. May 9, 2005, at his residence. 

He was born March 13, 1926, in Sugar Grove, a son of the late Charlie and Lou Emma (Simmons) Eckard.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Eckard was a business manager at Woodrow Wilson Rehab Center, where he was on the Council of Organizations.  He enjoyed gardening and fishing. 

Family members include his wife, whom he married May 21, 1950; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stuart F. and Karen H. Eckard of Middlebrook, VA, and Charles A. and Jill S. Eckard of Fishersville, VA; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. 

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. 

A graveside service was conducted Thursday in Augusta Memorial Park by the Rev. Paul Bailey. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to A.M.C. Hospice of the Shenandoah, PO Box 215, Fishersville, VA  22939.

Henry Funeral Home, Staunton, VA, was in charge of the funeral arrangements. 

Norman L. Simmons

Norman L. Simmons, 75, of Franklin died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin, where he had lived since 1999. 

Mr. Simmons was born Aug. 17, 1929, in Sugar Grove and was a son of the late William Luther Simmons and Myra Alice Mitchell Simmons. 

He was a farmer and a school bus driver for Pendleton County Schools.  He was the rural mail carrier for the Brandywine-Sugar Grove route for over 25 years.  He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was past commander for Sugar Grove VFW Post 9666. 

Mr. Simmons was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. 

Survivors include three sisters, Leota Wilson of Lady Lake, FL, Doris Willett of Merritt Island, FL, and Peggy Renner of Funkstown, MD; and two brothers, Herman Simmons of Hinton, VA, and Sheldon Simmons of Bridgewater, VA. 

The Rev. Jerry Smith conducted a graveside service Thursday at the Sugar Grove Cemetery with military honors by members of the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.  Kimble Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
