James W. O'Dell, 71

James Willard O'Dell, 71, Stanley, VA, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.

Born January 8, 1930, in Paden City, he was the son of the late Rev. Wilbert Andrew O'Dell and Anna Jane Chapman O'Dell.

He was a member of the 1948 graduating class of Franklin High School. He was a principal at Grove Hill Elementary School for 23 years. He graduated from Davis and Elkins College and received his master's degree from James Madison University. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

On Dec. 26, 1954, he married the former Mary Lou Wilfong, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Elaine Tomney, Shenandoah, VA; a son James W. O'Dell, Jr., Luray, VA; two sisters, Ruth Chamberlain, Mullins and Mary Pitzer, Scotdale, PA; and three grandchildren.

Pastor Frank Good conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bradley Funeral Home, Luray, VA. Burial was in Leake's Chapel Cemetery, Stanley, VA.

Memorial contributions may be made tot he Stanley Rescue Squad or the Stanley Fire Department.

 

Jeanne R. Crigler, 75

Jeanne R. Crigler, 75, Staunton, VA, and formerly of Franklin, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at the home of her son, Curtis Crigler of Franklin.

Mrs. Crigler was born April 19, 1926, at Ruddle and was the daughter of the late roy Campbell and Leta Simmons Ruddle.

She had worked at Sears in Charleston, Alfred Neys in Harrisonburg, VA, and had retired from Medical Center Pharmacy in Staunton, VA. She was a member of the Franklin Presbyterian Church.

On June 11, 1948, she married Alton L.Crigler, who preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1990.

Surviving are one son, Curtis Crigler of Franklin; one sister, Thelma Wolf of Cocoa Beach, FL; two brothers, Charles N. Ruddle of Franklin, and Bobbie W. Ruddle of Mathias; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

She was also preceded in death by one son and one sister.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Chester Rickard officiating. Burial was in the Pine Crest Memorial Gardens in Franklin.
