Sera L. May

Sera L. Smith May of Cranberry Township, PA, passed away Wednesday while under the care of Concordia at Cabot.

Born Dec. 7, 1922, in Sugar Grove, she was the daughter of the late Douglas and Maude (Simmons) Smith.

Mrs. May was a proud member of the Pendleton Pals. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Clement E. May, passed away on April 18, 2009.

She is survived by her three loving children, Michael A. May and his wife, Carol, of Evans City, PA, Douglas May and his wife, Karen, of Williamsburg, VA., and Bonnie Glenn and her husband, William, of Chicora, PA; six grandchildren, Nioka Shaffer, Sera May, Andrew May, Emily May, Josh Glenn and Travis May; three step-grandchildren, Colleen Priester, Carolyn Duncan and Greg Madden; three step-great-grandchildren; and Donna Bonzon, who was like a daughter to her, of Boyers, PA.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer, Otho, Arlie and McBride Smith; and two sisters, Bonnie Thurston and Opal McDonald

Funeral services were held Sat., May 5, at the Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home, Inc., Cranberry Township, PA, with the Rev. Lee Dreyer officiating.

Entombment followed at Pinewood Memorial Gardens in Cranberry Township.

Rhoda “Irene” Hise

Mrs. Rhoda "Irene" Hise, 59, of Franklin, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at her home.

She was born January 18, 1953 at Rose Hill, VA and was the daughter of the late John Flanary and Pauline Cope Flanary.

Mrs. Hise was a 1971 graduate of Damascus High School in Damascus, MD.

She had worked at Hanover Shoe, Wampler Foods, and at Marshalls for ten years. She loved flowers and animals, especially cats.

On April 12, 1974, she married James L. Hise, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Traci and Mike Mallow of Franklin; four sisters, Frances (Inez) Halterman & Eddie Hall of Tenth Legion, VA, Sheila (Dukey) & her husband, Mel Allison of Crystal River, FL, Edith (Edie) Harper of Franklin, Freda Flanary of Martinsburg; a number of nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Rose Brackman and Marie Roop

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Brenda "Fay" Domer.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Burial was at Pine Crest Memorial Gardens near Franklin.

Wanda Evans, 88

Wanda Marie (Cosner) Evans, age 88 of Bridgewater, VA and formerly of Scherr, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Bridgewater Retirement Community.

She was born at Bismark, on April 22, 1924, the daughter of the late Andrew DeWitt and Bertha Gertrude (Hesse) Cosner.

Mrs. Evans was a graduate of Bayard High School and was a homemaker and an active farm wife. She was a member of the Oak Dale Church of the Brethren, Scherr, where she was a Pianist, Deacon, Treasurer for 42 years, and a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. She had served as a Substitute Teacher at Maysville Elementary and Grassy Ridge Schools.

On October 3, 1942 Wanda married Tracy James Evans, who preceded her in death on October 27, 1971.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. James D. Evans and wife Sheila of Harrisonburg, VA, Abraham J. Evans and wife Ruth of Bridgewater, VA; five grandchildren, Tracy James Evans II and wife Laura of Harrisonburg, VA, Adam Lang Evans of Harrisonburg, VA, Logan DeWitt Evans of Virginia Beach, VA, Aaron Benjamin Evans and fiancee Amber Good, Michael John Evans of all Bridgewaterm VA; and a great granddaughter, Lyla Adelaide Evans.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Rollin W. Cosner in December 1971.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Oak Dale Church of the Brethren, Scherr with Rev. Michael Barnard and Rev. Harold Garber officiating. Interment was at Maysville Cemetery, Maysville.
