Virginia Mae (Crummett) Ellinger, 83, formerly of Sugar Grove, departed this life on May 6, 2001, at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she was a resident.

She was born on April 29, 1918, in Highland county. She was a widow of the late John B. Ellinger, Sr., who preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1982. She was the daughter of the late Granville Jackson and Lou Tena Crummett.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three children, one son, John B. Ellinger of Churchville, VA, and two daughters, Lucy Puffenbarger, Bridgewater, VA, and Rebecca Craig, Mt. Sidney, VA; three brothers Burton, Leo and Elvin Curmmett, all of Crozet, VA; a sister, Mary K. Hunt of Roy, WA; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis W. Ellinger, two daughters, Ruby J. Dames,Sugar Grove, Beulah M. Losh, Bridgewater, VA; three brothers, Floyd E., Walter R., and Lester Crummett; and one sister, Lou Irene Shull.

She was a member of the Crummett Run Church of the Brethren of Sugar Grove.

Her remains rest at Henry Funeral Home, Staunton, VA, where the family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday. AT other times, friends will be received at the residence of her son, John Ellinger, 358 Dry Branch Road, Churchville, VA.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the Chapel of Henry Funeral Home by the Rev. William Strickler, Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens, Staunton, VA.

Marie Pauline Landis VanMeter, 81, Cabins, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Grant memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mrs. VanMeter was born May 25, 1919, in Smoke Hole and was a daughter of the late Albert and Cora Alice Alt Landis.

She was a cook at Monarch Mills, Inc., Grocery, Buffet and Deli in Petersburg and retired in 1984. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Petersburg.

Her husband, Kermit H. VanMeter, died April 30, 1976.

She is survived by two sons, Darrel A. VanMeter, Cabins, and Gary K. VanMeter, Berryville, VA; five daughters, Gloria Goldizen, Nancy VanMeter and Wanda VanMeter, all of Cabins, Sandra V. Adams, Winchester, VA, and Linda V. Feigenbaum, Alexanderia, VA; two sisters, Pearl Judy, Petersburg, and Gail Parker, Arthur; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Gene W. VanMeter; one sister, Goldie Taylor; three brothers, Herbert Landis, Harman Landis and Edgar Landis.

Bishop David Bradley andElder J. Stephen Kimble conducted the funeral at 2 p.m. Friday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Edith Grace Huffman, 78, Manassas, VA, and formerly of Harrisonburg, VA, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Lovingston, VA.

MRs. Huffman was born Oct. 17, 1922, in Brandywine and was a daughter of the late Joby Eckard and Mary Jane Huffman Eckard.

She retired as a seamstress from the Metro Pants factory in Harrisonburg, VA.

Her husband, John Riley Huffman, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son Wallace D. Huffman, Dagsboro, DE; a sister, Jane E. Evans, Harrisonburg, VA; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg, VA.

Arrangements were by Wells-Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston, VA.
