Francis "Frank" Joseph DiFalco, Sr., 81, Franklin, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. DiFalco was born Aug 16, 1920, in Brockton, MA, and was a son of the late Francesco DiFalco and Caroline Codeiro DiFalco.

He retired as a superintendent from Hanover Shoe Company in 1985 with 15 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in 10th Armored Division. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Constance Corrine DeGrange DiFalco; three sons, Francis "Frank" J. DiFalco, Jr., of Jacksonville, FL, Mark Robert DiFalco of Franklin, and Richard Michael DiFalco, Brownsburg, IN; a sister, Corrine DeMott of Hamden, CT; two brothers, George DiFalco, Haverhill, MA and James DiFalco, Maui, HI; and four grandchildren, Brian, Andrea, Ryan and Alexander.

The Rev. Mario Claro conducted a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic church. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin with military rites by the Combined Veterans Organizations of Grant County.

Dale Hobert Vance, 86, of Onego, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Vance was born Dec. 7, 1915, in Roaring Creek and was the son of the late Mason and Bertha Vance.

He was a timber cutter for the West Virginia Department of Highways and the U.S. Forest Service. He was a member of Onego Church of the Brethren.

On June 7, 1950, he married Elsie L. Hedrick, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Patty Holloway of Franklin and Nancy Reed of Oengo; a son, Sam Vance, Elkins; four sisters, Grace Harper, Warren, OH, Eula Bland, Seneca Rocks, and Joy Bowers and Hope Smith, both of Baltimore, MD; and one grandson, Ryan Vance, Elkins.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Marvin and Carl; and two sisters, Dessie Hartman and Jessie Tingler.

The Rev. Robert Bowman and Evangelist Ken Anderson conducted the funeral at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bible Missionary Church. Burial was in the Vance cemetery in Onego.

Memorial donations may be made to the Bible Missionary Church.

Thelma Lee Simmons, 69, of Sugar Grove, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at her home.

Mrs. Simmons was born Feb. 11, 1933, in Durbin and was a daughter of the late Arthur Townsend and Janie Smith Townsend.

She retired from the Hanover Shoe Company after 29 years of service.

Her husband, Harry C. Simmons, Sr., preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 1983.

She is survived by six daughters, Wilma Meadows, Betty Sinnett, Mary Jane Hedrick, Marie Roop, Diana Rexrode and Helen Leathers, all of Franklin; a son, Jesse Simmons, Moyers; a sister, Nellie Losh, Brandywine; a half sister, Jearlene Lambert of Florida; a brother, Buddy Townsend, Bartow, four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Harry C. Simmons, Jr., on July 15, 1993.

Dr. Cecil Bradfield and the Rev. Jerry Smith conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at St. Paul's Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Unit of Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.
