Lillian "Fay" Riggleman

Lillian Fayetta "Fay" Riggleman, 75, passed away on April 8, 2009, at Georgetown Hospital in Washington DC.

Mrs. Riggleman was born at Scherr on Dec. 9, 1933, the daughter of the late Clarence Garfield and Leona Catherine Calhoun Schell.

She retired as a legal secretary for American Federation of Government Employees and was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church.

On Ja. 19, 1957, she married Vivan "Ben" Delay Riggleman, who survives.

Also surviving are two Daughters, Benita Riggleman of Huntingtown, MD, and Lisa Pinover and husband Jeff of Columbia, MD; two sons, Kevin Riggleman, Sr., and wife, Barbara of North Beach, MD, and Thomas Riggleman and wife Karen of Dunkirk, MD; four grandchildren, Kevin Riggleman, Jr., Gary Riggleman, Kaitlin Riggleman, and Jacob Riggleman; three brothers-in-law, Roland Genett, Pete Riggleman and Buck Riggleman; two sisters-in-law, Midred Riggleman and julia Schell; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, including some of Pendleton County.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Olin Schell and one sister, Beulah Genett. 

Pastor Rebecca Bennett conducted Funeral services on Saturday in the Basagic Funeral Home Chapel, Petersburg.  Interment was in Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.  

Lura Mae Smith

Lura Mae (Crummett) Smith, 96, formerly of Mount Solon, VA, died Monday, April 6, 2009, in Bridgewater Home, Bridgewater, VA.

Born July 19, 1912, in Pendleton County, she was the daughter of Pinckney and Bessie Crummett.

She had been employed for more than 35 years in the cafetereia of North River High School and was a lifelong member of the church of the Brethren. 

She was the last member of her immediate fmaily.

Her husband, Elmer Raymond Smith, preceded her in death.

Surviving are two children, Jean Smith Sponseller of Mansfield, OH, and Bernard A. Smith of MOunt SOlon VA; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. 

A graveside service were conducted Thursday in Moscow Church of the Brethren Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating.

Memorials may be made to Mount Solon Rescue Squad, PO Box 64, Mount Solon, VA  22843.

Bear Funeral Home, Churchville, VA, was in charge of arrangements.

Rebecca Kimble, 85

Rebecca "Becky" G. Kimble, 85, of Fort Ashby passed away March 19,2009, at the Braddock Hospital, Cumberland, MD.

Born Nov. 26, 1923, in Franklin, she was the daughter of the late Oliver C. and Gertrude F. Propst Mowery.

Mrs. Kimble was a 1944 graduate of Franklin High School.  Upon graduation, she was employed by the Hershey Chocolate Factory during World War II.   She worked several jobs before she and her husband moved to WAshington, DC and later to Maryland, she worked for Brinks ARmored Car and moved on to work for Safeway Stores, where she retired.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Fort Ashby Post 6667, VFW.

Her husband, Ralph Kimble, preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Frances Parker and husband, Charles of Bryantown, MD, and Lynn Fillmann and husband, Gary of Prince Frederick, MD; four grandchildren, Lisa Parker Aley and husband, Tim, Stephen Park and wife, Kara, Linda Fillmann Frick and husband, Don, and Sherri Fillmann Catlett and husband, Danny; 11 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jacob Jonathan, Jospeh, Nicholas and Noah Aley, Charlie and AnnaKate Parker, Madeline and Olivia Frick and Ashley Catlett; one brother, Oliver C. Mowery, Jr. of Kline; one sister, Grace Mowery of Kline; two nieces; and two nephews.  

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Vernon Mowery.

A memorial service was held at the Upchurch Funeral home, Inc., Fort Ashby on March 22 by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fort Ashby Post 6667, VFW.  A funeral service was held on March 23 at the Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Hickman officiating.  Burial was in Forth Ashby Cemetery.

Willadene Simmons

Willadene V. Simmons of Sugar Grove died Monday, April 13, 209, a Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time and under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.
