Lee Thompson
Bobby
Lee Thompson, 53, of Seneca Rocks passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at
Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA.
Mr.
Thompson was born on May 30, 1956 in Riverton, the son of the late Irene T.
Adkison.
He
attended Pendleton County Schools. He
was farmer on the family farm and a member of the North Fork Baptist Church.
He loved singing, church and farming.
On
Nov. 12, 2006, he married Rosealee Hornick Thompson, who survives in Riverton.
Also
surviving are a brother, Allen Hugh Thompson of Riverton; three step-daughters,
Tammy Ellen Drain and husband, Douglas of Roseland, VA, Teresa Ann Eumintus and
husband, Jeff of Lynchburg, VA, and Donna Jean Newport and husband, Roger of
Virginia; a step-son, Dale Elwood Hornick and wife, Glenda of Linville, VA; 10
step-grandchildren; and two step-great-granddaughters.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday at the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin,
with Pastor Dan Powers officiating. Interment
was in the Thompson Family Cemetery in Riverton.

Arlene
Virginia May, 85, of Moyers died Monday, April 5, 2010, at Pendleton Manor in
Franklin.
She
was born Aug. 11, 1924, at Dahmer and was the daughter of the late Lester R.
Hoover and Julia Anne Pitsenbarger Hoover.
She
was a homemaker and a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church where she was the
organist for over 60 years.
On
Feb. 9, 1946, she married Ona Conway May, who preceded her in death on Jan. 26,
2007.
Surviving
are one daughter, Carolyn May, and Mack Jones of Moneta, VA; one son and
daughter-in-law, Willard R. and Ruthaleen May of Moyers; four grandchildren,
Stacy Thompson, Jeremy May, Bradley May and Kayla May.
Funeral
services were held Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Moyers, with Pastors
Craig and Wendy Richter officiating. Burial
was at the St. John's Church Cemetery.

Francis
D. Hane, 97
Francis
“Sally” D. Hane, 97, of Harrisonburg, VA, passed away April 5, 2010, at her
home.
She
was the daughter of the late Frank S. and Lillian K. Hayden and was born in
Rockingham County, VA, on Oct. 3, 1912.
She
attended Harrisonburg city schools and graduated from Visitation Academy in
Frederick, MD. She graduated from
Schfords Beauty School in Richmond, VA.
Mrs.
Hane moved to Harrisonburg, VA, in 1937. She
owned and operated Francis DeSales Beauty Shop.
In later years, she operated a shop in her home.
She
was the oldest member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a member of
Harrisonburg Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary and a life member of VFW
Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Sally
was a gentle, accepting, mentor, and a listener to her many friends.
She
married Perry M. Hane in Frederick, MD, on May 9, 1936.
He preceded her in death.
Surviving
are a daughter, Diana Falls of Franklin; one brother and sister-in-law, James
Joseph and Crystal Hayden of Harrisonburg, VA; and a special niece and her
husband, Anna and Wendell Steele.
She
was also preceded in death by two brothers, Frank “Buddy” Hayden and Edward
L. Hayden.
A
graveside service was conducted Friday at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens by Father
Tom Mattingly. A Celebration of Life
Service was held at Lindsey Funeral Home.

“J.C.” Harper
Johnnie
Carroll “J.C.” Harper, 60, of Moyers passed away at his home.
He
was born Feb. 18, 1950, at Moyers and was the son of the late John L. Harper and
Mary Jane Propst Harper.
Mr.
Harper graduated from Augusta Military Academy and had attended Shepherd
College. He worked at Harper’s
Store and was a member of the Sandy Ridge Church of the Brethren.
Surviving
are one brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Mary Lee Harper of Salisbury, MD;
one sister-in-law, Margaret Harper of Franklin; one niece and her husband,
Kristina A. and William Eberly of Salisbury, MD; two nephews, Daniel L. Harper
and wife, Elizabeth of Damascus, MD, and Duane M. Harper of Dalzell, SC; and
five great-nephews, Nathan Harper and wife, Rachel of Martinsburg, Nicholas
Harper and Matthew Harper, both of Damascus, MD; and Timothy Harper and Anthony
Harper, both of Hamptonville, NC.
He
was also preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Harper, and one infant sister.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin with
Rev. Shyrl Smith officiating. Burial
was at Cedar Hill Cemetery at Franklin.

Faye
D. Ratliff, 80
Faye
Dean Whetzel Ratliff, 80 of Timberville, VA, and formerly of Mozer, died April
5, 2010 at her residence.
She
was born June 12, 1929, in Peru and was a daughter of the late Silas Benjamin
and Dora Mongold Whetzel.
She
was a seamstress at H.D. Lee Company before retiring, and a member of Mt. Olivet
Church of the Brethren in Timberville, VA.
On
Nov. 29, 1947, she married Glen Moomau Ratliff who preceded her in death Dec.
29, 1997.
Surviving
are two sons, Delmer Ratliff and wife, Debbie, and Delmas Ratliff and wife,
Sharon, all of Timberville, VA; a brother, Acie Whetzel of Timberville, VA;
three grandchildren, April Hottinger, Aaron Ratliff and Brian Ratliff; and three
great-grandchildren.
A
memorial service was held Thursday at Mt. Olivet Church of the Brethren with
Pastors Jerry Ruff and Kathleen Miko officiating.
Burial at Timberville cemetery was private.

Jimmie
Lee Nelson, 72, of Dayton, VA, passed away Friday, April 9, 2010, at Bridgewater
Home, Bridgewater, VA.
Mr.
Nelson was born in Circleville on May 1, 1937, and was the son of the late
Hansel Nelson and Grace Arbaugh.
He
worked at Walker Manufacturing in Harrisonburg, VA, for 33 years, retiring in
2000. He was a member of Briery
Branch Church of the Brethren.
On
June 4, 1960, he was united in marriage to Nina Virginia (Harold) Nelson, who
survives.
Also
surviving are a daughter, Vickie Landes and husband, Bruce of Harrisonburg, VA;
two sons, Ricky Lee Nelson and wife, Gail of Dayton, VA, and Thomas Luther
Nelson and wife, Tina of Bridgewater, VA; a sister, Violet Wimer of Glen Burnie,
MD; four grandchildren, Brian Landes, Hollie Landes, J.P. Nelson and Madison
Marie Nelson.
A
graveside service was conducted Tuesday at the Briery Branch Church of the
Brethren Cemetery with the Rev. Dawn Strother officiating.

Paul Eye, 88
Elwood
Paul Eye, 88, of Brandywine passed away on Friday, April 9, 2010, at
Harrisonburg Health and Rehab Center, Harrisonburg, VA.
Mr.
Eye was born in Hinton, VA, on May 12, 1921, the son of the late Romer and
Sallie Mahulda Propst Eye.
He
worked as a baker at Safeway Foods for 15 years and was a member of Calvary
Lutheran Church in Brandywine and was a World War II Army Veteran and a
recipient of the Purple Heart.
His
wife, Margaret Ellen Eye, preceded him in death on Sept. 8, 2004.
Surviving
are a sister, Alene Stamp; and a brother, Allen Eye of Brandywine.
Funeral
services were held Sunday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Rev.
Regina Beard officiating. Interment
was in Pine Hill Cemetery, Brandywine.

Boward
Franklin Casidy
Boward
Franklin Casidy, 88, of Bridgewater, VA, passed away at home on Wednesday April
7, 2010.
He
was born in Stokesville, VA, on Dec. 14, 1921, and was a son of the late Bud
Alford and Cora Elizabeth (Garber) Casidy.
Mr.
Casidy served in the U.S. Army as a Cpl in WW II and was a lifetime member of
the Myers Hodges VFW Post #8644 in Bridgewater, VA.
He also served in the CCC Camp. He
was a truck driver for Dixie Gas, he retiring in June 1983.
He loved to garden, and he shared his harvest with his family and
friends. Trout fishing was his
favorite sport until his eye sight would not permit him to drive.
He considered himself a member of the Hardee Boys and enjoyed their time
spent together.
He
was united in marriage April 22, 1967, to Donna Alice (Thompson) Casidy, who
preceded him in death July 28, 2007.
Surviving
are a daughter, Gaitha C. Smith; a son Randall Casidy and wife, Robin; two-step
daughters, Norma L. Clark and husband, Ed, and Jo Ann Landes-Ross and husband,
Siegfried; a step-son, Steve Landes and wife, Lois; a sister, Beatrice Owens;
two brothers, Robert Casidy and wife, Helen, and Trenton Casidy and wife, Betty;
seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, and 22
step-great-grandchildren.
He
will be missed by his special friend and companion, his dog Kelly.
He
was also preceded in death by two sons, Donnie and Howard Casidy; one sister
Margaret Huffer and husband, Leon; and brother-in-law Guy Owens.
A
funeral service was conducted Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in
Bridgewater, VA, with Rev. Stanley Kile officiating.
Burial followed at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with military grave rites
conducted by Myers-Hodges VFW Post #8644 and the Dayton American Legion Post
#27.
