He was born Jan. 22, 1941, in Cumberland, MD, and was the son of the late Gladstone P. Lough and Florence (Kesner) Lough.

Mr. Lough graduated from Franklin High School in 1959. He was a long distance truck driver for 43 years. He was employed by Kelly Springfield Tire Company, Hester Industries and retired from Con-Agra Foods in 2003.

He was a lifelong farmer and was owner and operator of Lough Farms. He served on the Board of directors for Southern State Petersburg Co-op. He was a member of the Bethel Church of the Brethren and served on the finance committee.

Also surviving are one son; Matthew Lough and wife, Judy of Petersburg; two grandchildren, Aaron and Whitney; and several nieces and nephews and many close friends.

Funeral services was held Sunday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with Pastor Greg Rotruck officiating. Interment was in the Kline Cemetery at Kline.

Vandell Brookes, 80, of Franklin died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

He was a Veteran, having served in Vietnam and retired after 25 years in the US Army Med. Corp. He was an LPN, having worked at John Hopkins and Pendleton Nursing Home.

Surviving are one daughter, Amanda Brookes of Franklin; two sons, Harry Brookes of Reistertown, MD, and Anthony Brookes of Annapolis, MD; three sisters, Irene Renault of Vero Beach, FL, Clara Maxine Brown of Summersville and Nancy Brooks Estep of Beckley; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin with Rev. Robert Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery.

John Samuel Glover, 92, of Franklin went to be with his Savior on Friday, April 8, 2011, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. Glover graduated from Franklin High School in 1939. He would have graduated a year earlier had he not quit because of his dislike for one of his teachers. He life was interesting and diversified. He served in the US Navy during World War II, was an aircraft assembly inspector at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, MD, and later worked for his brothers at Glover’s Auto Supply. He graduated from WV College of Beauty Culture, and along with his wife, opened the Fran-Jon Beauty Shop. Needing a change, he worked for Dunham-Bush as a set-up person in the machine shop and later opened the first self-service car wash and frozen custard stand in Franklin.

At 45 years of age, he learned to ski and enjoyed taking his granddaughter, Krista Suter, and her friends on ski outings. After he gave up skiing, he started playing golf and won several trophies in tournaments. He continued to play golf until the last year or so of his life. He was faithful member of the Franklin Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, secretary and treasurer for a number of years.

Surviving are a daughter, Kitty G. Suter and husband, Gary of Harrisonburg, VA; a son, John S. Glover, Jr. and wife, Rebecca of Fairfax Station, VA; two granddaughters, Bree G. Lawrence and husband, Beau of Sneeds Ferry, NC and Krista L. Suter of Harrisonburg, VA; two step-granddaughters, Jeanne Chase and Amy Enlow of Fairfax Station, VA; a great-grandson, Gabriel Lawrence of Sneeds Ferry, NC; three step-great-granddaughters, Taylor and Fiona Chase and Sofia Enlow of Fairfax Station, VA; two brothers, Homer Glover, Jr. o f Beckley and Denny Glover and wife, Genevieve of Franklin; a sister-in-law, Joan D. Glover of Franklin; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Curtis and Bill; and two sisters, Wanda Sponaugle and Cornelia Glover.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Franklin Presbyterian Church with Dr. Richard Young and Rev. Kevin Hand officiating. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery at Franklin with members of the Pendleton County Honor Guard conducting military graveside services.
