Helen V. Ours

Helen Virginia Keller Ours, 90, of Dorcas died Monday, April 11, 2005, at her home. 

Mrs. Ours was born Feb. 9, 1915, in Fisher and was the daughter of the late William M. Keller and Annie Gapp Keller.  

She graduated from Moorefield High School in 1933 and Catherman's Business College in 1937.  She was a secretary for the M.A. Bean Company and worked for the Hardy County Assessors Office for her father fro 16 years.  She was a homemaker and a partner with her husband in operating the family farm.  

Mrs. Ours was a member of the Oak Grove Methodist church in Fisher and also attended Dorcas Baptist church, where she previously taught Sunday School.  

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Larkin B. Ours; a daughter, Sally Ann Dunkle and husband, Ralph, of Franklin; a sister, Anna K. Heishman of Fisher; two grandchildren, Sandra Jean Smith and husband, Brad, of Dorcas, and Larkin Paul Dunkle and wife, Melinda, of Franklin; six great-grandchildren, Justin Wade Smith, Trisha Marie Smith and Bethany Danielle, Dylan Paul, Lindsay Brooke and Dalton Levi Dunkle; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by four brother, Anton M. Keller, George Keller, Willie Keller and Karl L. Keller and two sisters, Emma K. Halterman and Mary Alice Ruckman. 

The Revs. Richard L. Longbon and the Rev. Paul Donaldson will conduct the funeral at 11 a.m. today at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial will be at Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield.

Memorial donations may be made to the Larkin B. Ours Scholarship Fund at the Grant County Nursing Home, Oak Grove Methodist Church or the Dorcas Baptist Church. 

The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. 

Daniel Wayne Judy

Daniel Wayne Judy, 42, of Riverton, died Tuesday April 5, 2005 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Mr. Judy was born May 28, 1962, in Petersburg and was the son of James O. Judy and Juanita Carr Judy of Petersburg.  He was a mechanic at Petersburg Motors Trent Veach Chevrolet, and Riverton Welding.  

In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Linda Jane Sites Judy; four sons, Brian Sites of Keyser, Ethan Judy and Adam Judy, both of Riverton, and Joshua Judy of Petersburg; and a sister, Jamie Donaldson of Dorcas. 

He was preceded in death by one son, Cole Alan Judy; and one niece, Savannah Donaldson.

Pastors Ken Martin and Larry Showalter conducted the funeral Friday at the Basagic Funeral hHome in Petersburg.  Burial was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.  Burial was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

Minnie Hinkle, 98

Minnie Florence Riggleman Hinkle, 98, of Troy, OH, passed away March 13, 2005, in Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy, OH. 

Born Nov. 4, 1905, at Brooks Gap, Rockingham County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Marcella (Hartman) Riggleman, formerly of Upper Tract. 

Mrs. Hinkle was baptized a United Methodist and was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting and gardening. 

On Oct. 15, 1927, she married Elmer L. Hinkle, who preceded her in death in March 1990. 

She is survived by one son, Carl Hinkle and wife, Betty of Piqua, OH; three daughters, Mrs. Allen (Pauline) Shoup of Covington, OH, Virginia Boyd of Troy, OH, and Kathleen Musser of Fletcher, OH; two sisters, Nina Mitchell of Harrisonburg, VA, and Mrs. Donald (Sara) Earp of Frederick, MD; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchlild. 

She also was preceded in death by one great-grandson, two sons-in-law, four sisters and three brothers. 

Services were held March 17 at Suber-Shively Funeral Home, Fletcher, OH.  Burial followed in Miami Memorial Park, Covington, OH.  

William "Billy" Joseph Vance

William "Billy" Joseph Vance, 48, of Franklin, died Wednesday, April 6, at University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, VA.

Mr. Vance was born Feb. 26, 1957, and was the son of the late Marvin Vance and Mary Alice Cooper Vance.

He had worked at Hanover Shoes and WLR Foods Hinton Plant. He was very active in the Civil War Living History and participated as a Union soldier in many parades and reenactments. He attended the Bible Missionary Church in Onego.

His wife of nine years, Koren-Faye Rawlings, survives in Franklin.   

Also surviving are two daughters, Andrea Milton and husband Robert of Franklin; Bobbie Sue Vance of Cabins; two stepsons, Robert West and John West of Fort Seybert; one sister, Kitty S. Phares and husband, Jerry of Pasadena, MD; two grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

Pastors Dusty Twigg and Layton Kramer condcuted the fuenral Saturday at the onego Church of the Brethren.  Burial was in the Vance Family Cemetery in Onego by Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.  .

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin.

Mrs. Mary E. Batman, 97

Mrs. Mary Ellen Lawrence Batman, 97, of Petersburg, and formerly of Kanawha County, died Monday, April 4, at the Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin.

Mrs. Batman was born Nov. 4, 1907, in Boone County and was the daughter of the late Howard R. Lawrence and Fannie M. Green Lawrence. 

Her husband, William R. Batman, preceded her in death in 1987.

Survivors include a son Sherman R. Batman of Petersburg eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Lynn Durbin conducted a graveside services Thursday at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens in Glasgow.

Memorial donations may be made to Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin, WV 26807.

Arrangements were by Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
