Wilma Lee Scott, 52

Wilma Lee Scott, 52, of Martinsburg died Saturday, April 3, 2010, at the home of her in-laws, William and Jeanette Scott.

She was born May 8, 1957 at Harrisonburg, VA, and was the daughter of Betty L. Propst Wolfe of Franklin and the late James W. Wolfe.

She was an employee for 13 years with the Berkeley County School System as a cook and an aide for children with autism and behavioral disorders.  She was a member of Pikeside United Methodist Church.

On Dec. 20, 1981, she married William Leo Scott, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Stephanie Louise Scott of Augusta; two step-sons, Timothy William Scott of Spokane, WA, and Brian Douglas Scott of Chambersburg, PA; four sisters, Bonnie Payner, Mary Alexander, Brenda Alexander and Thelma Stumbo, all of Franklin; one brother, Daniel Propst of Upper Tract; and five grandsons.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin.  Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery near Franklin.

Herbert Kimble, 92

Herbert Harper Kimble, 92, of Petersburg passed away on April 3, 2010, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Kimble was born in Macksville on Aug. 13, 1917, the son of the late John A. and Texie Harper Kimble.

He attended Cave Schoolhouse and Faith Assembly Of God Church in Petersburg and was a member of VFW Post #6454.

His wife, Rubie Mallow Kimble, survives in Peterburg.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald Kimble and Eston Kimble; three sisters, Beulah Hedrick, Rhea Harper, and Rella Mallow.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Faith Assembly of God Church, Petersburg, with Pastor David Krause officiating.  Interment was in North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton.

Memorial donations may be made to the Faith Assembly Of God Church.

Maxine Shreve Kancler

Maxine “Mick” Ruth Shreve Kancler, 61, of Petersburg passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born May 12, 1948, in Smoke Hole, she was the daughter of Vada Judy Shreve, Petersburg, and the late Harman Shreve.

She attended school in Pendleton County and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary in Fairfax County, VA.  She was a Protestant by faith.

Her husband, William “Bill” Kancler, survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Angelia Parrish and husband, Adam of Petersburg; two sons, Rocky Helmick and wife, Michelle of Frederickburg, VA, and Daniel Helmick and wife, Nicole, of Petersburg; three sisters: Geraldine Dwyer of Alexandria, VA, Marsha Carpenter of Falls Church, VA, and Nancy LaMaster of Upper Tract; three brothers, Keith Shreve of Orlando, FL, Ronnie Shreve of Franklin and Dennis Shreve of Maysville; and five grandchildren, Joshua and Kelsey Helmick of Fredericksburg, VA, and Blake and Brooke Parrish and Annah Helmick, all of Petersburg.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Victoria Stump and Josephine Proffit.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home, Petersburg, with Pastor Larry Cantu officiating.

Arlene V. May, 85

Mrs. Arlene V. May, 85, of Moyers died Monday, April 5, 2010, at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ona Conway May on Jan. 26, 2007.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time and under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

Velma Blosser, 69

Mrs. Velma Anita “Tootie” Blosser, 69, of New Market, VA, passed away Friday morning, April 2, 2010, at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

She was born Feb. 28, 1941, in Rockingham County, VA, and was a daughter of the late Wade and Lucille Cline Ryman.

She had been employed as a cleaning lady and caregiver.  She was a faithful member of the Reformation Lutheran Church in New Market, VA.

Mrs. Blosser was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.  She will be sadly missed by her caring family and host of friends.

On Nov. 16, 1957, she married William A. Blosser, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Karen Peer of Brandywine and Mary Blosser of New Market, VA; four sons, William Blosser, Jr., Matthew Blosser and Wayne Blosser, all of New Market, VA, and Michael Blosser of Broadway, VA; two sisters, Katherine Blosser of New Market, VA, and Barbara Wolfe of Broadway, VA; a brother, Robert Ryan of Broadway, VA; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Monday at the Reformation Lutheran Church with Rev. Jeff Sonafelt officiating.

At her request, she was cremated.

William Flinn, Sr., 63

William “Bill” Albert Flinn, Sr., 63 of Moorefield passed away Friday afternoon, April 2, 2010, near Moorefield.

Born Feb. 9, 1947, in Camp Campbell, KY, he was the son of the late French A. and Gay W. (Shoemaker) Flinn.

He was a member of the Harpers Chapel Church of the Brethren, and a member of the Moorefield Lodge # 29 A.F. & A.M.

His wife, Marjorie McCauley Flinn, survives.

Also surviving are five sons, Gary E. Jewell and wife, Amanda of Elgin, SC, Denver M. Flinn and William A. Flinn, Jr. and wife, Maria, all of Moorefield, David A. Flinn and girlfriend, Robin of Dorcas, and Benjamin F. Flinn and girlfriend, Heather of Franklin; three daughters, Becky Hardesty and husband, Tim of Oakland, MD, Sabrina Dyke of Moorefield and Lisa Taylor and husband, Albert of Hogansville, GA; a brother, Jack W. Flinn of Moorefield; a sister, Marsha Myers and husband, Wayne of Moorefield; 11 grandchildren, Heather Jewell, Hannah Jewell, Noah Purser, Caleb Purser, Ashley Hardesty, Colton Dyke, Devin Dyke, Austin Barr, Hayden Flinn, Cody Taylor and Troy Taylor and wife, Amara; and a great-granddaughter, Lory Taylor.

He was also preceded in death by a sister.

A Service of Remembrance was held Monday at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, Moorefield.

Jessie Sharp, 74

Jessie Louise Elza Sharp, 74, of Marlinton died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, in Pocahontas Memorial Hospital in Buckeye.

She was born June 17, 1935, at Beverly and was the daughter of the late Patrick and Zella Swager Elza.

She was a homemaker and attended the Marlinton Church of God.

Her husband, Ralph W. Sharp, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her two daughters, Dorinda Jean Weese of Petersburg and Wanda Darlene Harper of Seneca Rocks; one son, David Bradley Sharp of Morgantown; one sister, Carolyn Kay Fitzgerald of Culpepper, VA; three brothers, James Elza of Leavittsburg, OH, Neven Elza of West Farmington, OH, and Roy Elza of Conroe, TX; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Marlinton Church of God with the Rev. Fred Goldizen officiating.  Interment followed in Fairview Cemetery in Marlinton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pocahontas Memorial Hospital or Marlinton Church of God.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Van-Reenen Funeral Home, Marlinton.
