Loy William Kimble Sr., 55

Loy William Kimble Sr., 55, of Petersburg and formerly of Upper Tract, died March 29, 2005 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.

Mr. Kimble was born March 23, 1950, in Smoke Hole and was the son of the late Jesse Kimble and Wilda Shirk Kimble. 

He graduated from Franklin High School in 1969 and was employed by Pilgrim's Pride Corp. in  Moorefield, for 25 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints in Petersburg.

Surviving are his wife, Johnnie Sue Vance Kimble; two sons, Loy W. Kimble Jr. of Slippery Rock, PA, and Mark Kimble of Upper Tract; one daughter, Joanie Ours of Petersburg; two sisters, Anna Hinkle of Cabins and Doris Jean Whetzel of Petersburg; two brothers, Norman Kimble and Ronald "Sonny" Kimble, both of Linville, Va.; and two grandchildren, Brandon Kimble and Jesse Kimble.

Bishop David Bradley conducted the funeral Friday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was at South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg.

Zetta M. Bennett

Zetta Marie Bennett, 82, of Brandywine died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Nella's Nursing Home in Elkins. 

Mrs. Bennett was born Sept. 1,m 1922, in Cherry Grove and was a daughter of the late Archie Arbogast and Suttie Bennett Arbogast. 

She was a homemaker.  She attended Cedar Grove Chruch of the Brethren and later attended Big Run Presbyterian Chapel. 

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jimmie Hedrick and Acie H. Bennett. 

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Mick of Circleville, and Evon Simmons of Brandywine; a son, Jimmie Hedrick, Jr. of Circleville; a sister, Hazel Malcom of Greenville, VA; a brother, Roy Arbogast of cherry Grove; 14 grandchildren,; 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.   

She also was preceded in death by one sister, Clara White; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren. 

Pastor Jesse Nelson conducted the funeral Sunday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at Pine Hill Cemetery, Brandywine.  

Coy A. Champ 

Coy Adam Champ, 75, of Upper Tract died Monday, march 28, 2005, at his home of an apparent heart attack. 

Mr. Champ was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Smoke Hole and was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Champ and Sadie VanMeter Champ. 

He was a carpenter and construction worker.  He served in the Marines for three years and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints in Franklin.  

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ratcliff chap; three daughters, Teresa Sponaugle and Elaine Champ, both of Franklin and Darlene Sue Longtin of Spotsylvania, VA; four sons, Larry Champ and Steve Champ both of Upper Tract, Adam Champ of Franklin and Bill Champ of Petersburg; two sisters, Amanda Tharpe of Winchester, VA, and Roxie Shirk of Petersburg; 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  

He also was preceded in death by one son, Richard Allen Champ;; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth and Cynthia Ann; seven brothers, Ottis C., Lonzie Cleveland, Walter Kermit, William Lee, Eston C. Robert Andrew and John Henry; and four sisters, Iva Catherine, Rachel Virginia, Anna Jane and Cora Susan.  

Bishop David Hartman and Elder Stephen Kimble conducted the funeral March 31 at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at the Bowers Cemetery on Jake Hill road in Upper Tract with military honors by the Pendleton county Veterans Honor Guard. 

Richard Auville, 83

Richard H. Auville, 83, of Mount Solon, VA, died at Avante Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, VA, April 1, 2005. 

Mr. Auville was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Onego and was a son of the late Guy and Polly Auville. 

He was a graduate of Circleville High School and was a veteran of the United STates ARmy.  He served in Europe, England, France, Germany, Belgium and HOlland.  he was a surgical technician in Medical Detachment 394th Infantry Regiment in European Theater of Operations during World War II and received the Silver Star and various medals and ribbons.  He was a member of VFW Post No. 3136, Collins and Hughes of Mount Solon, VA. 

Mr. Auville was a member of the Mount Solon Pentecostal Church for many years.  He retired from Ethan Allen in 1984.  

He was united in marriage to Myrtle Virginia Miller on June 30, 1947, who survives. 

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one son, Richard H. Auville jr. of Mount Solon, VA; three daughters, Wilma L. Clinedinst of Manchester, TN, Patsy J. Wampler of Harrisonburg, VA, and Sharon F. Auville of Mount Solon, VA; three brothers, Stanley Auville of Dayton, VA, Golden Auville of Bridgewater, VA and Calvin Auville of Charlotte, NC; six sisters, Helen Sites of West Virginia, Mary Lee Brown of Arizona, Margaret Anderson of Dayton, Susan Cupp of Bridgewater, VA, Shirley Miller of Harrisonburg, VA, and Reva Shull of Bridgewater, VA; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

 He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin Auville, Harvey Auville and Granville Auville, and one sister, Eva Hartman. 

A funeral service was conducted Monday at the Johnson Funeral Service chapel, Bridgewater, VA, with the Rev. Charles David Clinedinst officiating.  Interment followed in Oaklawn Memory Garden in Staunton, Va.

Helen Mae Miller

Helen Mae (Alt) Miller, 78, of Oldtown, MD, died April 1, 2005, at her residence.

Born Dec. 25, 1926, in Jordan Run, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison and Freda (Shreve) Alt. 

Mrs. Miller was the wife of 60 years to the late Junior Keith Miller.

Surviving are two sisters, Jessie Virginia Grady, Newark, OH, and Judith Marie Dean, of Huntingtown, MD; sons and daughters, Betty Lou Bunner, Cumberland. MD, Roger Dale Miller and wife, Bonnie of Oldtown, MD; Carroll Keith Miler and wife, Vickie of Bunker Hill, Rosemary Louise Humberson and husband Fred of Friendsville, MD, and Karen Leanor Shoemaker and husband Donald of Kearneysville and Joseph Lance Miller and wife, Debbie of Shepherdstown, 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren and her special pet dog Heidi Mae.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters,  Freda Hazel Borror, Berkeley Snowden Alt, Emory Kee Alt, Dora Vesta Keplinger and JoAnna Cathern Riggleman.

At Mrs. Miller's request, there was no services and her body was cremated.

Forrest Simmons, 91

Forrest Roscoe Simmons, 91, of Timberville, VA, died April 1, 2005, at Tandem Health Care in Woodstock, Va. 

He was born Oct. 31, 1913, in Franklin and was the son of the late Isaac Conrad and Florence Simmons Simmons.  

He retired after 17 years with Anne Arundel Co. Public Services.  He was a member of the Shekhinah Tabernacle, and he had served in the C.C. Camps in West Virginia.

On Aug. 20, 1938, he married the former Anna Lee Kile, who died Aug. 5, 1988. 

Surviving are one son, William R. Simmons and wife, Shannon of Timberville, VA; two daughters Carolyn L. Simmons of Harrisonburg, VA, and Treva S. Orebaugh of Timberville, VA; three brothers, Henry Simmons of Lignum, VA, Robert Simmons of Rockland, CA, and Isaac Simmons of Ithaca, NY; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.    

A funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Danny Moore and Rev. Bob Sutherland at the Shekhinah Tabernacle.  Burial was in Rader Lutheran Church Cemetery in Timberville, VA, by Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway, VA.

D.P. "Sheriff" Given, 88

D.P. "Sheriff" Given, 88 of Webster Springs died March 28, 2005, hat his Webster Springs residence following an extended illness. 

Born at Upper Glade, May 6, 1917, he was the son of the late H.F. and Susan Paugh Given. 

He was a life-long resident of Webster county, a retired contractor and political figure and served in the Army Air Corp 554th Bomber Squadron during World War II.  He attended both the First Baptist Church and the First United  Methodist Church in Webster Springs.  He was a 1937 graduate of Cowen High School, a graduate of Glenville State College and also studied at Oxford University in England. 

Mr. Given was a former Webster county Commissioner and served 10 years in the WV House of Delegates.  As a delegate, he was affectionately known as the "Father of Food Stamps" and was instrumental in the passage of legislation that allowed for the purchase of vehicle licenses at county seats.  He also helped bring the first scenic railroad excursion to Webster Springs in 1970 and was an avid supporter of reviving the CCC Camps.  

His memberships include VFW Post 3738, Webster Springs where he helped build the current VFW hall, and the American Legion, Roscoe Miller Post 62 of Cowen.  He was a former member of the Moose club, Webster Springs Lions club and Ruritan Club and the Elks Club of Buckhannon.  

A partner of given construction Company, he was credited with helping build additions to Webster Memorial Hospital and Franklin High School, did major construction for the Cass Scenic Railroad, built Dodd and Reed Funeral Home and the Mouth of Seneca Elementary School.

In his later years, he hosted the TV programs, "Away We Go" and "Back Stage 69," which were regularly seen on several state TV stations. 

Surviving are his wife, Cassandra Mitchell Given; two daughters, Donna J. Clutter Kafer and husband, John of Weston, and Jenny L. Given of Webster Springs ; an adopted daughter, Michelle Wilson of Ocean Isle, NC; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.   

Services were held March 31 at Dodd and Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with Rev. Cofer Cochran and Rev. Ken Stockwell officiating.  Burial followed in the Miller Cemetery, Webster Springs, with Military Rites by VFW Post 3738. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Webster county Senior Citizens, VFW Post 3738 or the First United Methodist Church Youth Group.
