Richard H. "Crunch" Burns, 67, of Riverton, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at the Pendleton County Nursing Home in Franklin.

Mr. Burns was born Oct. 6, 1934, in Riverton and was a son of the late Don L. Burns and Mary Kile Burns.

He was employed at the Germany Valley Lime plant until 1979.

On Aug. 12, 1955, he married Virginia Mae Thompson, who preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 1981.

Surviving are six daughters, Brabara Shank of Lacey Springs, VA, Patsy Nicholas of Cherry Grove, Donna Burns and Christina Evans, both of Riverton, Tammy Cooper of Harman, and Amy Vandevender of Bartow; three sons, Richard J. Burns and Danny L. Burns, both of Riverton , and Tommy Burns, Weyers Cave, VA; two sisters, Pauline Bennett of Riverton, and Jean Simpson, Baltimore, MD; four brothers, Charles Burns, Curtis Burns and Carl Burns, all of Riverton, and Paul "Dagwood" Burns, Mill Creek; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, one brother and five sisters.

Dr. Paul O'Gorek conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at the Burns family cemetery in Riverton.

John Henry VanMeter, 73 of Upper Tract, died Sunday, march 24, 2002, at his home.

Mr. VanMeter was born Dec. 25, 1938, at Onego and was the son of Lossie VanMeter of Upper Tract and the late Joy Huffman VanMeter.

He was a masonry worker for 42 years and attended Brushy Run Church of God.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Sandra Poole VanMeter, who he married on Sept. 2, 1979; seven daughters, Pamela Joy Corneso of Akron, OH, Tamara Sipple, Teresa Penny VanMeter and Lisa Singer, all of Norton, OH, Tonya Cozart of Akron, OH, Jackie Arbogast of Arbovale, and Rachel VanMeter of Upper Tract; one son, Ronald Thompson of Petersburg; two sisters, Bonnie Knight of Akron, OH, and Joann Street of Massillon, OH; three brothers, Jim VanMeter of Akron, OH, Garry VanMeter of Lewisville, OH, and Warren VanMeter of Franklin; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by one daughter.

Mary Evelyn Boggs, 74, of Seneca Rocks, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at her home.

Mrs. Boggs was born April 13, 1927, in Seneca Rocks and was a daughter of the late Andrew J. Champ and Ethel Alt Champ.

She was a member and trustee of the Pleasant View United Methodist Church and a member of the Gideon International Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Pendleton Board of Education and an honorary member of the Circleville FHA. She was also a member of the Extension Homemakers Club in Seneca rocks and a former 4-H club leader.

Her husband, Gene Boggs, preceded her in death on March 8, 1979.

She is survived by a son, Donald Boggs of Chattanooga, TN; three daughters, Cynthia Yokum, Pamela Boggs and Beverly Boggs, all of Seneca Rocks; three sisters, Thelma Rohrbaugh of Petersburg, Rose Virginia Vance, Grant CountyNursing Home, and Ruby Dolly of Medley; five brothers, Earl Champ of Cabins, Quentin Champ of Purgitsville, Darrell Champ, Grant County Nursing Home, Andrew Harlan Champ of Baltimore, MD, and Dayton Champ of Lahmansville; three grandsons, Roderick Boggs of Tampa, FL, Kevin Yokum of Buckhannon, and Derek Boggs of Boston, Ma; three great-grandchildren, Matthew and Lauren Boggs of Tampa Fl and Noah Yokum of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death were an infant grandson, Tracey Yokum; three sisters, Dora Cooper Mauzy, Verdie Hedrick and Joy Basinger; and four brothers, infant, Paul Champ, Merrill Champ, Bryson Champ and John Champ.

Pastor Barbara K. Rexroad conducted the funeral at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial was at the William H. Boggs family cemetery in Seneca Rocks.

Earl S. Black, 81, of Ashland, VA, widower of Marguerite T. Black, died March 27, 2002.

Mr. Black was born Sept 30, 1920, at Kline and was the son of the late John and Addie Mallow Black.

He retired in 1982 from the Robert E. Lee Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Surviving are his children, Rita Smith of South Point, OH, John S. Black, Thomas S. Black and James S. Black, all of Ashland, VA, and Jane Lesner of Houston, TX, and seven grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Black.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 30, at 11 a.m. at the Reid funeral Home in Ashland, VA. Interment was in the Signal Hill Memorial Park.

Lloyd "Pete" V. Kimble, 74, of Upper Tract died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin.

Mr. Kimble was born Dec. 19, 1927, in Pansy and was the son of the late Lester V. Kimble and Lillie B. Hedrick Kimble.

He was a heavy equipment operator and was employed at Wampler-Longacre in moorefield for over 12 years, retiring in 1997. He attended the Franklin Assembly of God church.

Surviving are his wife, Bessie V. Holloway Kimble, whom he married Dec. 1, 1947; two daughters, Virginia A. Ours of Dorcas, and Patricia M. Kimble of Ft. Seybert; four sons, Lloyd A. Kimble of Youngstown, OH, Sherman W. Kimble and Brent D. Kimble, both of Upper Tract, and Roger Lee Kimble of Sterling, VA; a sister, Mary Barb of Moorefield; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one infant brother and one sister.

Pastor Calvin Bailey conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at the cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract.

Gae Adamson Bennett, 84, of Dayton, VA, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mrs. Bennett was born April 20, 1917, in Horton and was a daughter of the late Bruce and Opal Erina Sites Adamson.

She moved to this area 23 years ago from northern Virginia and had been employed as an economist for the United States government before retiring. She was a member of the Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church where she was a teacher of the golden age and the willing workers Sunday School classes. She was also involved in the craft ladies of the church and the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are one son, O. Dale Bennett of Somerset, PA; a daughter, Louis B. Skala of Springfield, VA; one brother, Jim Adamson of Rockledge, FL; three sisters, Gladys A. Alford and Doris Marquess, both of Dayton, VA, and Naomi Spencer of College Park, MD; six granchidlren; and six great-grandchildren.

Matthew Tyler Pitsenbarger, 2-1/2-year-old son of Larry a. and Ruth A. Pitsenbarger of Bellevue, NE, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

He was born Aug. 20, 1999, at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandmother, Virginia M. Pitsenbarger of Amherst, VA; uncles and aunts, Wendell and Rebecca Pitsenbarger, and Harold and Susan Pitsenbarger, all of Amherst, VA; Betty and Delroy Artman of Berwick, PA; Will and Patty Nicol, and angus and Karen Nicol, and Linda and Richard Burrows, all of Gloucestershire, England; cousins, Christopher,Benjamin and Timothy Artman of Berwick, PA, John Kerns IV of Atlanta, GA, Dr. Robnet Kerns of Richmond, VA, and Anna Nicol and Paul Harris, both of Gloucestershire England.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Henry C. Pitsenbarger of Amherst, VA; and his maternal grandmother, Mary Christina Nichol of Gloucestershire, England.

The Rev. David Donahue conducted the funeral at 2p.m. Saturday at the ObaughFuneral Home in McDowell, VA. Burial was at St. Paul's Cemetery in Moyers.
