Elva Catherine Turner Flynn, 90, Harrisonburg, VA, died Monday March 26, 2001, at Rockingham memorial Hospital in harrisonburg, VA.

Mrs. Flynn was born July 4, 1910 in Onego and was the daughter of the late Charles Turner and Pearlie Helmick Turner.

She was a homemaker and a member of Onego church of the Brethren.
Her husband, Gary Flynn, died Feb. 12, 1947.

She is survived by three daughters, Eyvonne Cook, Dayton, VA, Betty R. Nelson, Riverton, and Junette J. Flynn, Harrisonburg, VA; three sons, Jack Harper Montrose, Dick Flynn, Dayton, VA and Gary Flynn, Jr., Hrarrisonburg, VA; a sister, Lora Turner Long, Maysville; a brother, Charles Turner, Jr., Seneca Rocks; 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by seven brothers, Edward Robert, Raymond, Abraham, Omar, Clarence and Theodore Turner; and one sister, Ruth Turner Long.
The Rev. Marvin Frankhouser will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Today at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial will be at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Thomas Goode Butterworth, 81, Sugar Grove, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at his residence.

Mr. Butterworth was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Richmond VA, and was the son of the lateSaumuel Gilliam Butterworth and Lena Francis Butcher Butterworth.

He was a salesman for Texas Refinery, an Army Veteran of World War II and a member of the Ginter Baptist Church, Richmond, VA.

He was married to the former Virginia Louise Parker who preceded him in death.

Surviving are a son, Thomas Roland Butterworth, and wife Zelda of Sugar Grove; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was conducted at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Richmond, VA.

Funeral arrangements wsere under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.

Genetta Dolly McQuain, 74, Potomac, MD, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at First Assembly Living Center in Concord, NC.

Mrs. McQuain was born Feb. 24, 1926, in elkins and was a duaghter of the late Edgar Wilson Dolly and Mabel Viquesney Dolly.

She retired as a library aide from Montgomery County Schools after 23 years of service. She worked at Winston Churchill High School and Ritchie Park Elementary School and was a member of North Bethesda United Methodist Church for 40 years. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1942 and Madison College, now James Madison University, in 1947.

Her husband, Robert Hunter McQuain, died Oct. 22, 1967.

She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey McQuain and Dan McQuain, both of Potomac, MD; a sister June D. Carson, Greenville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Franklin J. Dolly, who died in 1988.

The Rev. Walter Mullins conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Franklin United Methodist Church. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.

Claude Mowery, 75, Upper Tract, died Monday, March 26, 2001 at Grant emorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Mowery was born Feb. 2, 1926 in Upper Tact and was a son of the late Chester Claude and Annie V. Lough Mowery.

He was a retired carpenter and a member of Mount Horeb United Methodist Church in Mozer. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Potomac Highlands Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6454 in Petersburg.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years JoAnne "Tootle" Hill Mowery; a son, Raymond C. Mowery and wife, Melanie, Petersburg; a daughter, Claudia Ann Kilpatrick and husband, Bill, Crestview, Fl; two sisters, Macie VanSlyke, Upper Tract, and Hester Williams, Dayton, VA; three brothers Warnie Mowery and Connie Mowery, both of Upper Tract,and Virgil Mowery, Oak Ridge, MO; three grandchildren, Karen Will and husband, John of York, PA, Amy Budney and husbnad, Sean of Brookpark, OH, and Sgt. Shannon Mowery of Hinesville, GA; four great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Newton Mowery.

The Rev. Richard L. Longbon will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. today at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial will be at Lough Cemetery in Mozer with military rites by the combined veterans organizations of Grant County.

The family received frineds from 7 p.m. to 9 pm.m Wednesday at the funeral home.

A Lucille Lyons, 75 of Hollywood MD, and formerly of Upper Tract, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at the Washington Hospital Center, Washignton, DC.

Mrs. Lyons was born March 1, 1926, at Martin and was the daughter of the late John and Anna R. (Michael) Lyons.

She was a retired schoolteacher, having taught many years in both West Virginia and Virginia. She also served as director of Headstart in Fairfax County, VA. She was a graduate of Shepherd College, Shepherdstown. Mrs. Lyons attended the Hollywood United methodist Church, Hollywood, MD. Previously, she attended the First Baptist Church, Petersburg and the Bon Air Baptist Church, Arlington, VA. She was member of the Retired Schoolteachers Association; Friends of the Library and the Extension Homemakers, Franklin; and the BPW, Upper Tract.

Surviving family members include, two daughers, Patti Anderson and husband, Jimmy, Hollywood, MD, Melissa Mae Thompson and husband, Jimmy, Mechanicsville, VA; one brother, Glenn Lyons and wife, Doris, Martin; two sisters Janet marion Bishop and husband, Morris, Utica MI, and Mae E. Lyons, Antioch; six grandchildren, Michelle, Jennifer, Andy, Lee Briscoe and Layne; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Brooke.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel E. Lyons on January 26, 1985; a daughter, Eva "nicky" Redina, and a sister, Nina L. Arnold.

Funeral services were conducted in the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David H. Blackwell officiating.

Interment was in the Queen's Point Cemetery, Keyser.

Charles "Charlie" A. Snyder, 85 Fomerly of Littlestown, PA, died March 19, 2001, at Comfort Care, Inc., Fairfield, PA.

Born Jan 22, 1916, in Cumberland County, PA, he was the son of the late Samuel D. and Minnie GoodhartNsyder, Sr.

His wife, Vivian Dern Snyder, preceded him in death in 1993.

Mr. Snyder was employed with Hanover Shoe for 50 and was the first plant manager at Hanover Shoe in Franklin. He was a member of Redeemers United Church of Christ in Littlestown, PA, the Littlestown American Legion and the VFW. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was a 1933 graduate of Littlestown High School.

Surviving are two brothers, Samuel D. Snyder, Jr., of Littlestown, PA, and Robert K. Snyder of North Fort Myers, Fl; five sisters, May Jacoby of Carlisle, PA, Gladys Spangler of Messiah Village of Mechanicsburg, PA and Anna Crook and Dorothy Corcora, both of Hanover, PA; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held march 23 at Littles Fuenral Home, Littlestown, PA, with Rev. James A. Martin officiating. Interment was in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown, PA.
