Pauline V. Keplinger

Pauline Virginia (Kimble) Keplinger, age 85 of Petersburg, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.

She was born September 1, 1927 in Petersburg, and was a daughter of the late Miles Perry Kimble and Cora (Hise) Kimble.

Mrs. Keplinger had worked in the housekeeping department at Grant Memorial Hospital for several years. She was a member of the former Maysville Gospel Tabernacle and later she and her husband attended the Calvary Baptist Temple in Rig.

Her husband, Glenn Edward Keplinger preceded her in death on August 17, 1992, Surviving are four daughters, Lula M. (Keplinger) Shirk and Judy A. (Keplinger) George and husband Rocky all of Petersburg, Wanda L.(Keplinger) Hedrick and husband Ronnie and Donna J. (Keplinger) Judy and husband Dennis all of Upper Tract; five grandchildren, Gary E. Shirk and wife Tammy, Kimberley Ann George, Valerie (Judy) Dasher and husband Richard, Cindy George and Glenn George; three great grandchildren, Nicholas Shirk, Amber Shirk and William Tenney; two sisters, Frances Crites of Petersburg, and Wilma Lee Haggerty of Keyser; two brothers: Roger Lee Kimble of Rig, and Bobby Kimble of Moorefield; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Harold Junior Keplinger on November 22, 1972; son-in-law, Ray Shirk on July 13, 2011; four brothers, Donald Kimble, Freddy Kimble, James Wilkie Kimble and Carl Kimble; three half brothers, Chester and Kenneth Kimble and infant Willy Kimble; one sister, Rosalee Thorne; seven Half sisters, Lillie Kimble, Catherine Ayers, Icie Kuykendall, Ruby Borror, Delphia Champ, Bessie Kimble and Margie Kimble.

Mrs. Keplinger was cremated and there will be no services held. A private inurnment was held in the Lahmansville Cemetery.

Zola F. Kile

Zola F. Kile, age 79 of Upper Tract, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

She was born on September 16, 1933, the daughter of the late John Frank “Doc” and Mae Clara (VanMeter) Alt.

Mrs. Kile attended Smoke Hole School and was a member of Christ Central Community Church. She and her husband Allen owned and operated Kile's Grocery in Upper Tract for many years.

Her husband, John Allen Kile, preceded her in death on October 5, 2009.

Surviving are three daughters, Denise Hevener and husband Dennis, Charlene Tennant and husband Mark all of Upper Tract, Zondra Reedy and husband Jeff of Moorefield; five sisters, Kathleen Raker and husband Kenneth of Williamsport, PA, Thomasine Berg of Maysville, Millie Hedrick and husband Larry of Timberville, VA, Ganel Armentrout and husband Bob, Jeanie Kimble and husband Richard all of Upper Tract; four brothers, William Alt and wife Nancy of Lahmansville, Loy Alt and wife Kitty of Green Springs, Charles Alt and wife Loretta of Petersburg, James Alt and wife Jean of Warrenton, VA; five grandchildren, Devon Boyles, Josh Harper and fiance Jaime, Kyle Reedy and fiance Macie, Caitlyn Britel and husband Samir, Danielle Stevens and husband Thomas; and a great-granddaughter, Zoe Boyles.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Burley, Ervin, and Raymond Alt; and three sisters, Bessie Kimble, Wilma Wagner, and Crickett Alt.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Sam Harper and Pastor Robert Tennant officiating. Interment was in Cherry Hill Cemetery, Upper Tract.

Charles “Skip” Thomas

Charles William “Skip” Thomas, age 71 of Riverton, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg.

He was born on December 17, 1941 in Pottsville, PA, the son of Elizabeth Jane (Moyer) Thomas of Riverton and the late William Thomas.

Mr. Thomas was a graduate of Pottsville High School and Redding Pennsylvania School of Nursing. He retired after working as a Nurse, an Anesthesiologist, and a Computer Technician. He was a US Navy Corpman during the Vietnam War.

Thomas was twice married. His first wife Patricia, preceded him in death October 1990. His second wife, Virginia Jane (Lund) Thomas lives at Riverton.

Also surviving are a daughter, Wendy K. Meador and husband Jason of Martinsburg; a brother, David Thomas and wife Gail of Waldorf, MD; three grandchildren, Briana Harvell, Natalie Nicole Harvell, and Sean William Harvell.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jesse Thomas Dolly

Jesse Thomas Dolly, age 89 of Petersburg and formerly of Seneca Rocks, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Grant County Nursing Home.

He was born August 27, 1923 in Seneca Rocks and was a son of the late Sampson S. Dolly and Rebecca Levina (Self) Dolly.

Mr. Dolly was a farmer and had worked for Vaughn Long's Car Washes in Petersburg, Moorefield, and Elkins, WV. He was a member of the North Fork Mennonite Church.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are several nieces and nephew and several great and great -great nieces and nephews, including Wayne L. Dolly of Cabins; and several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by nine brothers, John Dolly, Gordon Dolly, George Dolly, Henson Dolly, Edward Dolly, Calvin Dolly, Lester Dolly, Curtis Dolly and Ollie Dolly and three sisters, Martha Reed, Sarah Hartman and Rachel Dolly.

Funeral service were held Friday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg with Pastor David Miller and other ministers of the North Fork Mennonite Church officiating. Burial was in the Dolly Family Cemetery, Lower North Fork Road, Seneca Rocks, WV.

Hershel Simmons, 95

Hershel Bryan Simmons, 95, resident of Brightview in Staunton, VA, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Augusta Nursing and Rehab.

He was born on Sept. 11, 1917, in Sugar Grove, a son of the late Clay and Lottie (Mitchell) Simmons.

Mr. Simmons served in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from Dr. Pepper Bottling Company after 47 years of service. Upon retirement he was employed by Valley Aging for 12 years. He was an active member of the Staunton Church of the Brethren, where he served as head usher for many years.

His wife, Clora (Bodkin) Simmons, preceded him in death.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Judith B. Simmons of Acworth, GA.; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Charles E. Phillips of Mt. Crawford, VA; four grandchildren, M. Scott Simmons and wife, Tracy of Acworth, GA., Terri Simmons Fritz and husband, David of Arlington, TN., Kris E. Phillips and wife, Suzanne of Charlotte, NC, Kim Phillips Kugelman and husband, Josh of Richmond, VA; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Simmons of Waynesboro; a sister, Virginia Harris and husband, June; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Simmons both of Staunton and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Simmons and two sisters, Edna Simmons Wilson and Mildred Simmons Crummett.

A funeral service was conducted Friday at Staunton Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Scott Duffey. Burial was private at Augusta Memorial Park.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Henry Funeral Home, Staunton, VA.

Talma Hannan, 92

Talma Mitchell Hannan, 92, died Aug. 20, 2012, in Winter Park, FL.

Born June 18, 1920 in Sugar Grove, she was a daughter of the late Hattie Eye and Benjamin Hurl Mitchell.

Her husband, Harry Hannan, survives.

Also surviving are a daughter Beth Cresbaugh of Delray Beath, FL; a son Henry Dickerson of Cary, NC; and a granddaughter, Lisa Pease of Salisbury, MD.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, William K. “Bill” Mitchell and Delmar “Hurl” Mitchell.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Sugar Grove Cemetery.

George Rotosky, 63

George Rotosky, age 63 of Upper Tract, and formerly of Baltimore, MD, passed away on Saturday, March 23,

2013 at the residence of Jamie Vance and Craig Skrzesz, with whom he lived for four years.

He was born in Baltimore, MD, on August 16, 1949, the son of the late George E. Rotosky and the late Catherine (Herman) Smith Meeker Rotosky.

Mr. Rotosky was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School and a member of the Local #710 Labor Union.

He was a Highway Construction Worker.

Surviving are a daughter, Sherri Ann Ferris and husband Randy Allen of Baltimore; four sisters, Robin Stump of Denton, MD, Bonnie Zimmerman of Baltimore, Snookie Smith of Dundalk, MD, Marion Graffious of Dundalk; and two brothers, Richard Rotosky and James Meeker, both of Baltimore.

Funeral services will be held later this week with interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Brooklyn Park, MD.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gonce Funeral Home in Baltimore, MD. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin, WV.
