Inez C. Mullenax Tallman, 82, of Durbin, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.

Mrs. Tallman was born April 4, 1919, at Pine Grove to the late Solomon Kay and Daisy M. Mick Mullenax.

She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church and a homemaker that worked outside the home. She was active in church and civic affairs.

She and her husband, Pete, were recently honored as "Hometown Heroes" in a special supplement to March 14 edition of the "Elkins Inter-mountain." Mrs. Tallman and her husband, who preceded her in death just slightly more than a year ago, were among a select few of "Hometown Heroes" from a seven county area.

In addition to her husband "Pistol Pete" Tallman, and parents, she was also preceded in death by four sisters, Wilma White Nelson, Crystal Bell, Mae Mullenax Calhoun and Vivian Mullenax Robertson; and six brothers, Gerald, Raymond, Craig, Tiffen, William and Basil Mullenax.

Surviving are one daughter, Bonnie L. Plyler of Bartow; two sons, Roger Tallman of Asheville, NC and Edward Tallman of Durbin; two brothers, Edward Mullenax of Arbovale, and Stanley Mullenax of Pocatello, ID; four grandchildren, Mark Tracy, Anita Tracy, Melanie Tallman Vaughn and Julie Tallman; and two great-grandchildren, Ashleigh and Lauren Vaughn.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Gordon officiating. Interment followed in the Arbovale Cemetery, Arbovale.

In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church or BFD Fire and Rescue.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale was in charge of the arrangements.

Arlie C. Lough, 81, of Cumberland, MD, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at Memorial Hospital.

Born June 3, 1920, in Franklin, he was the son of the late Howard Lough and Hattie (Glover) Lough. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth P. (Starliper) Lough; two brothers, Walton W. Lough and Raymond K. Lough; and two sisters, myrtle E. Hartman, and Marie H. Swanson.

Mr. Lough was retired from Hoffman Clothing, Inc., in Hagerstown, MD, with 35 years of service. He was a member of Central Assembly of God church, the American Legion in Ridgeley, and the V.F. W. Post No. 1541. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 5th Army Artillery seeing battle in New Guinea and Philippines. He will be sadly missed by his many friends at the Cumberland Arms, where he so generously cared and assisted them with his artistic ability for seasonal decor.

He is survived by three brothers, J. "Jim" Russell Lough, Robert C. Lough, both of Cumberland, MD, and H. Leon Lough, Washington, D.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted at the Merit Adams Funeral Home, P.A. Cumberland, MD, on Friday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Douglas Seaman officiating.

Interment was in the Maryland veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, MD.

Military honors were accorded at the cemetery by the combined Veterans Honor Guard.

John Henry VanMeter, 63, of Upper Tract, died Sunday March 24, 2002, at his home.

Mr. VanMeter was born Dec. 25, 1938, at Onego and was the son of Lossie VanMeter of Upper Tract and the late Joy Huffman VanMeter.

He was a masonry worker for 42 years and attended Brushy Run church of God.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Sandra Poole VanMeter, who he married on Sept. 2, 1979; seven daughters, Pamela Joy Corneso of Akron, OH, Tamara Sipple, Teresa Penny VanMeter and Lisa Singer, all of Norton, OH, Jackie Arbogast of Arbovale, and Rachel VanMeter of Upper Tract; one son Ronald Thompson of Petersburg; two sisters, Bonnie Knight, of Akron, OH, and Joann Street of Massillon, OH: three brothers, Jim VanMeter of Akron OH, Garry VanMeter of Lewisville, OH, and Warren VanMeter of Franklin; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by one great-granddaughter.

A memorial service was held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin with the Rev. Bruce Cosner officiating.

Joyce Faye Judy, 49, of Petersburg, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at her home.

Mrs. Judy was born Nov. 1, 1952, in Petersburg and was a daughter of Mervin A. and Georgia Mae Thorne Stump of Dorcas.

She was a salutatorian of Petersburg High School Class of 1970 and was a 1974 graduate of West Virginia University School of Medical Technology. She was employed at the Grant Memorial Hospital Laboratory for 27 years.

Mrs. Judy as a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Petersburg, where she was a treasurer, organist and was active in the Women's Bible Circle.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Steven C. Judy, a daughter, Emily C. Judy and a son, Darin C. Judy, both of Petersburg; and four sisters, Phyllis Alt of Dorcas, Janie Corley, Elkins, Denice Ours, Charlottesville, VA, and Nancy Rotruck, Petersburg.

She was the daughter-in-law of Francis L. and Joan Judy of Ruskin, FL.

Preceding her in death were one niece, Ginger Alt; and one great nephew, Zac Alston Paul Alt.

Visitation is scheduled today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

Pastors Larry M. Cantu and Fred Al Soltow, Jr. will conduct the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at the Petersburg First Baptist Church. Burial will be at the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.

Lloyd David Clarke, 86, of Petersburg, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg. He had lived at Grant County Nursing Home for the past year.

Mr. Clark was born Oct. 20, 1915, in Row, OK, and was the son of the late William J. Clarke and Della L. Riley Clark.

He was employed by Phillips Petroleum Co. for 29 years and was a supervisor in data processing in Bartlesville, OK, and Sweeny, TX. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the Base Camp Mountain Training School in Seneca Rocks. He was a member of the American Legion Post 78 of Petersburg and the Petersburg Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Mary Moomau Clark; a daughter, Phyllis A. Harman of Woodstock, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

The Rev. C. William Cox conducted the funeral at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Petersburg Presbyterian Church. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Matthew Tyler Pitsenbarger, age 2-1/2, son of Larry and Ruth Pitsenbarger, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at the University Hospital Hospital in Omaha, NE. Arrangements are pending at the Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA.
