William Mullenix, 77

William K. "Bill" Mullenix, 77, a resident of Harman, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at his home. 

He was born July 12, 1930, at Harman and was a son of the late Gurn and Lola Cooper Mullenix. 

On Sept. 21, 1962, he was married to Shelby Jean Gordon Mullenix, who survives in Harman. 

He and his wife, owned and operated the Allegheny Restaurant in Harman. 

He was a member of the Operating Engineers since 1957, a heavy equipment operator and a certified welder and received his solo pilot license and rode a motorcycle.  He had been a Cross Country Truck Driver, earned a Life Award for Boy Scouts, a member of the Pole Cat Club, a member of the NRA and organized the "Buckskinners" Club in Randolph County.  Following retirement, he built black powder replica's of Kentucky Rifles and was considered a master gun builder.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid bear hunter.  He was a member of the Dry Fork Assembly of God Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother. 

 A funeral service was held at Friday at the Dry Fork Assembly of God Church with Rev. Rick LEwellen officiating.  Interment followed in the North Fork Memorial Gardens near Riverton by the Tomblyn Funeral Home, Elkins. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com 

Gladys Bennett, 87

Gladys Jeanette Hartman Bennett of Charles Town and formerly of Baltimore, MD, died March 19, 2008. 

Born on May 10, 1920 in Circleville, she was the daughter of the late Zell and Martha Lambert Hartman. 

She attended Circleville High School and spent many years employed at the Baltimore box Co. and the Chesapeake Container Corp. where she retired in 1982. 

Her husband, Warren A. Bennett, preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth W. Bennett and Orlando E. Bennett and wife, Barbara; a daughter, Charlotte A. Bennett; three sisters, Eva Propst, Avia Thompson, and Doris Colaw; a brother, Max Hartman; a grandson, Dr. Kevin Wayne Bennett; six great-grandchildren, Blake, Ross, Bailey, Brent, Amanda and Holly Bennett; one great-great-grandson, Grayson Bennett; several nieces and nephews; and her best friends, Mike Wood and Peggy LaGray. 

She also was preceded in death by one grandson, DAvid Franklin Bennett. 

Services were held Monday at McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home, Baltimore, MD.  Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Baltimore, MD.

Freda J. Roberson

Mrs. Freda J. Roberson, 76, of Upper Tract, died Monday, March 24, 2008, at her home.

She was born Dec. 26, 1931, at Smoke Hole and was the daughter of the late Harvey Clemmie and Gettie Kimble Shreve. 

She was a homemaker and a member of the Ruddle Presbyterian Church. 

On May 12, 1951, she married Edwin R. Roberson, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Jerome "Jerry" Roberson of Harrisonburg, VA, Lowell Roberson of Weyers Cave, VA, and Terry R. Roberson of Franklin; two sisters, Mary Kimble of Upper Tract and Diana Shrader of Middletown, VA; three brothers, Nolan Shreve of Moorefield, I. Parker Shreve of Harrisburg, PA, and Harvey C. Shreve Jr. of Wardensville; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. 

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral services were Wednesday at the Kimble Funeral Home chapel, Franklin, with the Revs. Stanley Kile and Kevin Hand officiating. Burial was at Cherry Hill Cemetery at Upper Tract.

James Baldwin, 66

James Franklin Baldwin, 66, of Moorefield passed away Thursday Morning, March 13, 2008, at his residence. 

Born Sept. 3, 1941, in Hardy Co., he was the son of the late Raymond and Velva Kuykendall Baldwin. 

His wife, Bonnie K. VanMeter Baldwin, survives. 

Also surviving are two sons, Robert G. VanMeter of Keyser and James E. Baldwin of Moorefield; a daughter, Barbara Baldwin of Franklin; two brothers, Loring Baldwin of South Carolina and Kurt Baldwin of Cockeysville, MD: two sisters, Wanda Crites of Kessel and Freda Delawder of Moorefield; and three grandchildren.  

He was also preceded in death by a sister and a brother. 

Graveside services were held March 15 at the Kessel Cemetery, Kessel, with Pastors Don Knotts and Doyle Patch officiating.  Interment followed.

Evelyn Mongold

Evelyn Mary Greenawalt Mongold, 85, of Harrisonburg, VA, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008. 

Mrs. Mongold was born April 13, 1922, in Pendleton County and was a daughter of the late Ezra and Edith Ward Kesner. 

She was employed at W.L.R. before retiring and was a member of the Bridgewater VFW Ladies' Auxiliary.

In January  1943, she married Carl Greenawalt, who preceded her in death in 1982.  On Aug. 2, 1963, she married Wilbert C. Mongold, who died in 1981. 

She is survived by a son, Carlyle Greenawalt of Harrisonburg, VA; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  

The Rev. David Burrough conducted a graveside service Friday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Bridgewater, VA.  

Arragnements were by Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway, VA.

Hazel D. Hoover, 

Hazel D. Hoover, 90, of Franklin died Monday, March 24, 2008, at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.  

She was born Jan. 6, 1918, at Brandywine and was the daughter of the late Andrew Fultz and Hettie Plaugher Fultz. 

She was a homemaker and a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church at Brandywine and attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church at Deer Run. 

On April 28, 1936, she married Russell H. Hoover, who preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1989. 

Surviving are one daughter, Geneva J. Walters of Moorefield; two sons, Richard H. Hoover of Franklin and Jerry R. Hoover of College Park, MD; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two step-great-granddaughters. 

Funeral services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at the Kimjble Fuenral Home Chapel in Franklin with Rev. Carl Tribett officiating.  Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery at Brandywine.

The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 9 pm. Wednesday at the funeral home.   

Russell L. Pennington Sr.

Russell Leroy Pennington Sr., 55, of Petersburg, died Monday, March 17, 2008, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Mr. Pennington was born Jan. 8, 1953, in Upper Tract and was the son of the late Norman H. Pennington and Gaye M. Likens Pennington Mowery. 

He was an automobile mechanic for the former Alts Garage and Tag Service in Petersburg and was a member of the Lighthouse Community Church.  

His wife, Virginia K. Whetzel Pennington, preceded him in death on Aug. 10, 2004. 

Survivors include three sons, Rusty L. Pennington Jr., of Circleville, Rodney L. Pennington of Maysville and Robert L. Cook of Upper Tract; a daughter, Rachel L. Pennington of Martinsburg; a step-son, Scottie Self of Petersburg; three sisters, Linda S. Pennington of Petersburg, Sherry Charlton of Phoenix, AZ, and Wilma Avila of Elgin, IL; a brother, Roger Lee Pennington of Cabins; and four grandchildren, Colton L. Pennington and Hanna F. Pennington of Circleville, and Dakota L. Cook and Kelsey R. Cook of Upper Tract.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, James E. Pennington, Robert A. Pennington and Richard N. Pennington; and three sisters, Betty A. Hoover, Eleanor M. Varner and Shirley J. Sowers.

The Rev. Joseph Eversole conducted the funeral March 20 at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial was at the Maysville Cemetery, Maysville.
