Rose A. "Dee" Haney

Rose Ann "Dee" Haney, 68, of Circleville died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg. 

Mrs. Haney was born may 18, 1937, in Johnstown, PA, and was the daughter of the late John Michael Buchan and Pauline Thomas Mattingly Buchan. 

She retired in 1982 from U.S. Steel, where she was the first female computer operator.  she was a former member of the United States Steel Workers in Fairless Hills, PA, and was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.

Her husband, William Norman Haney, Sr., preceded her in death Nov. 3, 2005. 

Surviving are two stepsons, William N. Haney, II, of Philadelphia, PA, and Thomas Francis Haney of Prescott, WI; two nephews, John Buchan and Jim Buchan, both of Las Vegas, NV; four great-nieces and great-nephews; and four step-grandchildren. 

She also was preceded in death by one Brother, Earl Buchan. 

The Rev. Mario Claro conducted the funeral Saturday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Franklin.  Burial was in the North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton by Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.   

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pendleton County Rescue Squad or the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.  

Claude Smith, III, 50

Claude Joel "CJ" Smith, III, 50, of Grottoes, VA, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2006, from injuries received in a truck accident in Carroll County, VA.

Mr. Smith was born in Harrisonburg, VA, on March 15, 1956, a son of Claude Joel Smith, Jr., and Betty Jean (Martin) Smith. 

He worked as a truck driver at Yellow Freight Trucking Co. in Raphine, VA.  He graduated from Fort Defiance High School, class of 75, and was a member of the Verona Moose club, an avid hunter and fisherman. 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two daughters, Ashley Lobdell and her husband, bill of Clifton Forge, VA, and Stacy Wood of Mississippi; one son, Shawn Wills and wife Angela of Greene County, VA; one sister, Virginia Ann Beverage of Franklin; his fiancee, Debbie Meadows and her daughter, Kristin  of Stuarts Draft, VA; seven grandchildren, Draven, Allison, Dakota, Tori, Taylor, Gage and Kaitlyn. 

At his request the body has been cremated. 

Memorial contributions may be given to Virginia State Parks.

Janice Bland, 53

Janice Bland, passed away on March 4, 2006, after a long illness. 

She was born on Dec. 7, 1952, in Clarksburg, a daughter of Arrawanna Maze of Franklin and the late George Bland. 

Mrs. Bland spent the last half of her life in Colorado.  She worked for many years with children and families as a social worker.

Surviving in addition to her mother, are her husband Andrew Gomley of Divide, CO; a son Drew Bland Gomley, also of Divide CO; and two brothers Roger Bland of Clearwater, FL, and Brian Bland of Franklin.  

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Franklin Presbyterian church. 

In lieu of flowers, a donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

Anna Lee Helmick, 78

Anna Lee Helmick, 78 of Keyser and formerly of Burlington died March 17, 2006, at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser. 

Born on June 15, 1927, at Upper Tract, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Lena Mae (Pennington) Helmick.  

Surviving are three brothers, James Helmick of Brandywine, Luther Junior Helmick of Burlington and Richard Murphy of Ruddle ; two sisters, Ella Mae Smith of Keyser and Ruth Helmick of Ruddle; and a number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.   

She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Howard and Paul Helmick, and four sisters, Mabel, Mary and Betty Jo Helmick and Lydia Kesner. 

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, Burlington, with Rev. Larry Shrout officiating.  

Interment was in the Cherry Hill Cemetery, Upper Tract. 

Glen Hofecker, Jr., 76

Glen Melvin Hofecker Jr., 76, of Franklin died Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

Mr. Hofecker was born May 18, 1929, in Johnstown, PA, and was a son of the late Alice Roberts and Glen Hofecker.

His first venture in Virginia was to restore the Forrestville Mill.  He served in the Navy aboard the coral Sea during World War II.  He was a volunteer fireman at Etowah Volunteer Fire Dept. in Etowah, NC.  In 1980, he began disaster relief work with the churches of the Brethren. 

Mr. Hofecker was a master craftsman at McCoy's Mill in Franklin, specializing in clocks.  He was a member of Smith Creek Church of the Brethren. 

On July 29, 1950, he married Iris Louise Stutzman Hofecker, who survives. 

In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by a son, Glen Melvin Hofecker, III, and wife, Melinda of East Asia; three daughters, Louise Bogard of Bridgewater, VA, Marie Meyerhoeffer and husband Sonny, of Mount Crawford, VA, and Jayne Sorel and husband, James of Mount Sidney, VA; a sister, Alice Jean Stegeman of Sinking Spring, PA; a brothers Owen Hofecker of Johnstown, PA; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. 

Pastors Dan Ludwick and Daryl Ritchie will conduct a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

Leslie Bert Lambert 

Leslie Bert Lambert, 96, of Franklin left this earth life of time and started his journey into eternity on Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin. 

He was born Feb. 12, 1910, in Zigler and was the son of the late McKenzie Cain Lambert and Pearlie Etta Moyers Lambert-Hartman. 

He was a member of the generation that lived through the depression.  He always found work and retired from Shockley Hatchery at the age of 65. He then started painting and continued until he was nearly 90 years old.  He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  

In October 1928, he married Evelyn Melvina Smith Lambert, who died on Aug. 22, 1989.  From this union, 11 children were born: Virginia Lee White of Edmonds, WA, Doris Williams of Glencoe, PA, Madeline Hoover and Mary Jane Santelli, both of Franklin. Cleo Lambert of Willards, MD, Dale Lambert of Seattle, WA, Jerry Lambert of Comfort, Richard Lambert of Vulcan, Alberta, Canada, and Flossie Bell, Rachel and Howard, who preceded him in death.  

He was also the father of Gary McKinney, Nancy Green both of Marlinton and the late Nellie McKinney of Marlinton. 

In June 1960, he married Evelyn (Rexrode) Lambert of Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin, who was by his side at his death. 

Also surviving are two half-sisters, Catherine Smith of Franklin and Dessie Witt of Turtle Creek, PA; two half-brothers, Edwin Hartman and Charles Hartman, both of Franklin; 45 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. 

Also preceding him in death were two brothers, three sisters and four grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held March 11 at the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-Day Saints in Franklin with Bishop David Hartman presiding.  Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin, by Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin.

Roy M. Eppard, Sr.,  43

Roy Martin Eppard, Sr., 43, of Bridgewater, VA, died Wednesday, March 15,2006, at his home. 

Mr. Eppard was born Aug. 27, 1962, in Harrisonburg, VA, and was the son of Patricia Forren Eppard of Bridgewater, VA, and the late Floyd Herbert eppard. 

Also surviving are a daughter, Melissa Hedrick of Circleville; two sons, Roy Martin Eppard, Jr., of Mount Crawford, Va, and Ray Allen Eppard of Bridgewater, VA; a sister, Katerine Fix of Mount Crawford, VA; a brother, Ricky Eppard of Bridgewater, VA; and three grandchildren.

the Rev. James Joyner conducted the graveside funeral Saturday at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg, VA.

Richard T. Judy, 79

Richard Thomas Judy, 79, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2006, in Boyce, VA. 

Born July 24, 1926, in Beverly, he was the son of the late Early Thomas Judy and Monna Roxie Sponaugle Judy. 

Mr. Judy was a graduate of Franklin High School and Fairmont State college.  He attended West Virginia University.  He graduated from Lord Fairfax Community College with a certificate in real estate, going on to acquire his broker's license. 

During World War II, he served in the mechanized calvary of the US Army in the Pacific Theater, spending most of his active duty in Okinawa.  

He started his working career in Fairmont in the auto parts and repair industry.  In the late 1960s, he entered into a cable television company with his brothers and moved to Strasburg, VA, in 1971.  Retiring in 1989 from Shenadoah TransVideo, he continued to run Shenandoah County Broadcasting corp. and WSIG-FM./AM until November of 2004.

Mr. Judy was a member of the Strasburg Presbyterian church, serving as deacon, elder, treasurer and on the pastor nominating committee.  he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fairmont, prior to moving to the Shenandoah Valley.  In Fairmont, he was the treasurer of the Handicapped children's Association and a member of the American Legion.  he also was a member oft he Strasburg Rotary Club. 

His wife of 55 years, Evelyn Sites Judy, survives. 

Also surviving are one son, Jerry Lee Judy of Winchester, VA; a daughter, Katharine Ann Judy Hardy and husband Christopher of Fairfax Station, VA; one grandson, Tristan Thomas Hardy; one granddaughter, Brittanie Anning Hardy; four brothers, Kermit Judy of Franklin, Early Judy, Jr., of Castleton, VA, Gayle Judy of Luray, VA, and Gary Judy of Lexington, VA; four sister, Ethel Hall of Bryce, VA,  Bernice Fortner of Fairmont, Ina Kuehl of Pinehurst, NC, and Patty Sponaugle of Franklin; mother-in-law, Laura Jane Sites; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. 

Also preceding him in death were one brother, Guy Judy. 

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Strasburg Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Howard officiating. burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg, VA, with graveside military honors by the American Legion Post No. 77 of Strasburg, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Strasburg Presbyterian Church, 325 S. Holliday Street, Strasburg, VA  22657. 

LouAnn Adamson, 74

LouAnn Adamson, 74, of Parkersburg passed away March 17, 2006, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg.

She was born Oct. 22, 1931, in Onego, and was a daughter of the late Glenn Adamson and Nellie Rains. 

She was a life-long member of the Christ United Methodist church and was active in various organizations in Parkersburg.  She retired from GMAC with 32 years of service in accounting. 

Survivors include, one sister Bernice Thompson and husband, Arthur of Seneca Rocks; and numerous cousins, including Leslie Ann Lilly and husband, Arnet of Cortland, OH. 

Services were held Tuesday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with Pastors David Grueser, Perry Stewart and Barbara Rexroad officiating.  Interment follwed at Evegreen North Cemetery.
