Mildred Boggs, 93, of Franklin, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA. She had been a resident of Pendleton Nursing Home for several years.

Miss Boggs was born Aug. 4, 1908, at Franklin and was the daughter of the late Mason Boggs and Sarah Priest Boggs.

She served in the Marine Corps during World War II. She was a desk clerk and manager of the Franklin Hotel for many years and was a member of the Franklin Presbyterian Church.

She was never married.

In addition to one nephew, Browning Boggs of Franklin, she is survived by two nieces, Sarah Cowger Jackson of Richmond, VA, and Ann Cowger Spurio of Arlington, VA; three great nieces, two great-great nieces, two great nephews and four great-great nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Priest Boggs; two sister, Eunice Boggs and Virginia Boggs Cowger, and one nephew, Joseph Mason Boggs.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin with the Rev. Donald Wilkinson officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery at Franklin.

Memorials may be made to the Pendleton Nursing Home or the Franklin Rescue Squad.

Audrey Aileen Bowers Hulvey, 88, formerly of Broadway, VA, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at the home of her daughter Marlene Landes in Harrisonburg, VA, where she had lived for the past three and one-half years.

Mrs. Hulvey was born Aug. 20, 1913, in Fort Seybert and was a daughter of the late Melvin T. and Icie Fleming Bowers.

She was a housewife and a member of the Linville Creek Church of the Brethren in Broadway, VA.

On Aug. 20, 1933, she married Marshall R. "Chug" Hulvey, who preceded her in death on April 30, 1990.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a son, Alan Hulvey of Harrisonburg, VA; a sister, Mary Taylor of Glenolden, PA; a brother, Ervin W. Bowers of Dunnellon, FL; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Paul Roth conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Linville Creek Church of the Brethren. Burial was at Cedar Run Cemetery near Broadway, VA.

Hughston Pinkney Botkin, 81, of Staunton, VA, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Botkin was born Aug. 19, 1920, in Sugar Grove and was a son of the late George Pearl and Ida Jane Simmons Botkin.

He was employed by Master Host Inn for 15 years before retiring. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Staunton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2216.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia Rudior Botkin, who he married Jan. 5, 1962; a half brother, Russell Bodkin of Staunton, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Chaplain Mark Westebee conducted a graveside service at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oak Lawn Memory Gardens.

Jerry Allen Bolton, 69, of Harrisonburg, VA, died Monday, March 11, 2002, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA, where he had been a patient for the past week.

Mr. Bolton was born Feb. 25, 1933, in Pendleton County and was a son of the late Glen Harr and Judith Bolton Rexrode.

He was a farmer and was also employed at Swift and company and Wampler Foods for 40 years and at Massanetta Springs for five years.

Mr. Bolton was an active member of the Donovan Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and was president of the United Methodist Men's Group. He was a Harrisonburg district lay speaker for the United Methodist Church.

On Jan.12, 1952, he married the former Nancy Milstead, who survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Deborah Elza of Montross, VA, Ellen McDorman of Singers Glen, VA, and Rebecca Jalbert of Virginia Beach, VA; a son, Wayne Bolton of Largo, FL; four sisters, Velda White, Singers Glen, VA, Nancy Twait and Mary Sue Beach of Harrisonburg, VA, and Judy Miller of Middletown, VA; a brother, Doug Rexrode, Harrisonburg. VA; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Sandra Benton Plasters conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at Donovan Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the Singers Glen Cemetery.

Beulah Simmons Kuykendall, 90, Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas, and formerly of Petersburg, died Wednesday, mar 13, 2002, at the nursing home where she had lived since Jan 25, 1993.

Mrs. Kuykendall was born Aug. 3, 1911, in Brushy Run and was the daughter of the late Salem Kimble and Minnie Alt Kimble.

She was a member of the Parsons Church of God in Parsons.

Her husband, Ernest F. Kuykendall, preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1993.

She is survived by a son, Carrol B. Simmons of Beverly; three granddaughters; and three great grandsons.

Mrs. Kuykendall was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

The Rev. Eli Hostetler conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial was at Cherry Hill Cemetery, Upper Tract.

R. Irene Porter, 79, of Oakland, MD, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland, MD.

She was born on Aug. 2, 1922, in Kline and was the daughter of the late William P. and Lura H. (Mitchell) Greenawalt.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale C. Byrd.

She was a member of the Crellin United Brethren Church and was a former clerk for Rudy's and Rolyan's, both of Oakland, MD.

She is survived by her companion, John W. Steyer, Oakland, MD, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, MD, where services were held on Sunday, with the Rev. Charles Teets and Rev. K. Allen Mummert officiating. Interment was in the Garrett county Memorial Gardens, Oakland, MD.
