Ralph Hensel Kee, Sr., 85 

Ralph Hensel Kee, Sr., 85 of Elkton, VA, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA. 

Mr. Kee was born Aug. 20, 1917, in Franklin and was the son of the late Olen and Lona Eye Kee. 

He was a partner of Ken Airey Volkswagon Service, a self-employed mechanic and a bus driver for Friendship Industries.  He had worked at Kee's Amoco in Harrisonburg, VA, for the last several hyears.

Mr. Kee was a member of the Rion-Bowman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 632 in Harrisonburg, VA.  He served in the United State Army during World War II from 1942-45 in the European Theater and was awarded the Five Star Cluster.

On May 13, 1940, he married Wilda Donovan Kee, who survives. 

Also surviving are four sons Ralph H. Kee, Jr., and Charles A. Kee, both of Harrisonburg, VA, Douglas W. Kee of Elkton, VA, and William Kee of Shenandoah, VA; a daughter, Paula J. McDonald of Elkton, VA; a brother, Aubrey Kee of Harrisonburg, VA; three sisters, Lorraine Booten of Elkton, VA, Dorothy Sites of Keezletown, VA, and Louise Rexrode of Harrisonburg, VA; nine grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Pastor Jeff Ferguson and the Revs. Gary Edenfield and Doug Dowdey conducted the funeral 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God Church in Harrisonburg, VA.  burial was in the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg, VA.

Geneva Simmons Neil, 85

Geneva Simmons Neil, 85, of McDowell, VA, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at her home. 

Mrs. Neil was born March 30, 1917, in Moyers and was a daughter of the late Emory and Lena Pitsenbarger Simmons.

 She was a member of the McDowell Presbyterian Church, and Highland Senior Citizens.

On Aug. 28, 1937, she married Robert E. Neil, who preceded her in death. 

She is survived by a daughter, Shirley N. Whitelaw of McDowell, VA; two sons, Robert H. Neil and Josph T. Neil, both of McDowell, VA; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. 

The Rev. Lester LaPrade conducted the Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA.  Burial was in the Shumate Cemetery.

Arvel N. Nesselrodt 

Arvel N. Nesselrodt, 81, of Brandywine, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. 

Mr. Nesselrodt was born Sept. 24, 1921, in Brandywine and was a son of the late George Washington Nesselrodt and Mary Pearl Simmons Nesselrodt.

He graduated from Franklin High School in 1941.  He was a truck driver for Roy Pope, worked for Walter G. Simpson at International Harvester in Brandywine, and was a security guard at the Sugar Grove Naval Base in the early 1960s.  He was a US postmaster in Brandywine from April 4, 1961, to Dec. 31, 1984, retiring after 23 years of service. 

Mr. Nesselrodt was a member and deacon of the Brandywine Christian Church, where he served as junior class Sunday school teacher for over 30 years.  He was a charter member of the South Fork Volunteer Fire Department, serving as treasurer of the Pine Hill Cemetery committee for over 30 years.

On Jan. 1, 1952, he married the former Alma Virginia Eckard, who survives. 

Also surviving are three daughters, Rose Marie Robinson, of Brandywine, Karen Ann Pszczolkowski of Moundsville, and Melody Kay Hodgson of Winchester, VA; and four grandchildren. 

 He was also preceded in death by one sister.  

The Rev. Travis Dowdy conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at the Brandywine Christian Church.  burial was at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine.

Helen Cleo Harman, 88

Helen Cleo Harman, 88, of Bridgewater, VA, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at her home.  She had not been in good health for the past five years. 

Mrs. Harman was born March 25, 1914, in Brandywine and was a daughter of the late Charles O. and Estella Hevener Hedrick. 

She attended Propstburg School in Brandywine and moved to Bridgewater, VA, in 1959.  She was employed at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in the laundry department before retiring in 1974. 

Mrs. Harman was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. 

On January 21, 1933, she married Glen E. Harman, who preceded her in death April 24, 1989. 

She is survived by a son, Wayne Harman of Bridgewater, VA; three daughters, Carol Long and Linda Cook, both of Bridgewater, VA, and Ann Rinard of Wardensville; two brothers, Everette Hedrick of Marlinton and Rowell Hedrick of Riverdale, MD; two sisters, Opal Wilfong of Harrisonburg, VA, and Mary Howdyshell of Lanham, MD; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. 

She was also preceded in death by two children, Charles Harman and Doreen Pope; three brothers, Carl Swadley, Virgil Hedrick and Paul Hedrick; and one sister, Pauline Hedrick. 

The Rev. Theodore M. Schulz and Dr. Cecil D. Bradfield conducted the funeral 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA.  Burial followed at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine. 

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of donor's choice in her memory. 

Mary Hazel Corder, 97

Mary Hazel Corder, age 97, a resident of Wishing Well Manor Nursing Facility, Fairmont, and a former resident of Philippi, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2003, at the nursing facility.

She was born Sept. 22, 1905, in Pendleton County and was a daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Lough) Dickenson.

She was an employee of Neva’s Dress Shop and an attendant at the Grand Theater. She was a member and Past Nobel Grand of Dorcas Rebekah Lodge # 275 of Philippi. She was a member of Philippi Presbyterian Church and Women’s Circle.

She was united in marriage in 1929 to Herbert Corder, who preceded her in death in 1972.

Surviving is one daughter and son-in-law, Ann C. Lantz and husband, Fred S., Irwin, PA.

Mrs. Corder was the last surviving member of 13 children.

Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 11 a.m., Friday. Dorcas Rebekah Lodge #275 will conduct memorial services at 2:15 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. David Bower officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery. 

W. Julian Warner

W. Julian Warner, 73, of Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin, and formerly of Snowy Mountain Road, Cherry Grove, died Friday, March 14, 2003, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.  He had lived at the nursing home for four years.

Mr. Warner was born Jan. 2, 1930 near Cherry Grove on North Dry Run and was the son of the late Wilbur Flick and Mary Kate Nelson Warner. 

He was a farmer and a member of North Dry Run United Methodist Church. 

He is survived by three sisters, Lucille Warner and myrtle Ruth Thompson, both of Franklin, and Thelma Lambert of Cherry Grove; a brother, Russell Warner of Cherry Grove; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was also preceded in death by one brothers, Nelson Warner; and two sisters, Mildred Colaw and Leslie Warner. 

The Rev. Stanley Kile conducted the funeral 2 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was in the North Fork Cemetery in Riverton. 

Memorial donations may be made to Pendleton Nursing Home "Wheelchair Fund."  

Nellie Dale Dove, 97

Nellie Dale Dove, 97, formerly of Harrisonburg, VA, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Willow Estates Retirement Home, where she had lived for the past four years. 

Mrs. Dove was born Nov. 7, 1905,  in Fort Seybert and was a daughter of the late Reuben and Ida G. Mitchell Puffenbarger.

She had lived in Harrisonburg, VA, since 1930, and was a drapery maker for the Craft House, a division of the Virginia Craftsmen, from 1934 to 1954.  She was a member of the Harrisonburg First Church of the Brethren. 

On Feb. 5, 1927, she married William Gilbert dove, who preceded her in death May 24, 1987. 

Survivors include two daughters, Ellen D. Sumner of Harrisonburg, VA, and Faye D. Kobrick of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Roma C. Weller of Temple Hills, MD, and Lela P. Kuykendall of Churchton, MD; a brother, Ernest L. Puffenbarger of Moorefield; a granddaughter, and a great-grandson. 

Dr. J.D. Glick conducted the funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA, where the family received friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday.  Burial followed at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg, VA.
