Clarence Truax Sr., 70

Clarence William Truax Sr., 70, of 376 Pettit Drive in Stanley, VA, died Friday, March 5, 2004.  

Mr. Truax was born march 30, 1933, in Chambersburg, PA, and was a son of the late Ozark Claude Truax and Geraldine Sites Truax. 

HE was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the NRA.  

Survivors include four sons, Clarence "Lance" William Truax Jr. of Luray, VA; Donald Forrest Truax of Stanley, VA, Byron Dean Truax of Westminster, MD, and jOhn Michael Truax of Franklin; a daughter, Sharon Dian Brunk of Westminster, MD; an adopted daughter, Melissa Rose Truax of Luray, VA; a brother, Bill Truax of Hancock, Va; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Jeffrey D. Marble conducted the funeral Thursday at the Bradley Funeral Home in Luray, VA.  Burial was at the Culpeper National Cemetery with full military honors by the American Legion Post in Culpeper, VA.

Thomas F. Slasor

Thomas F. Slasor, 77, a teacher, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004.

A native of Washington, D.C., he moved to Ocala, FL, from Franklin in 1999.  He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Post No. 30 in Franklin.  He served in the Navy during World War II.  

Survivors include his wife, Louise Slasor, Ocala, FL; daughters, Daralyn Riddell, Cahrlotte, NC, Linda Slater, New York City, NY, Joselyn Hall, Fort Worth, TX and Joanna Cohen, Berlin MD; a son, Lawrence Slasor, Palo Alto CA; a sister, Linda Barnett, Sacramento, CA; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild.  

Florida Cremation Society of Ocala, FL, provided the information.  

Dorothy Ann Jones, 51

Dorothy Ann “Dottie” Jones, 51, a resident of the Blackman Heights community, Parsons, departed this life Thursday evening, March 11, 2004, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1952, at Meyersdale, PA, the daughter of the late Leroy and Betty Beachy Deal.

On Jan. 8, 1977, at Salisbury, PA, she was married to Clifford Wayne Jones, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Jeffrey Wayne Jones and wife, Jennifer, of Burlington; one daughter, Eva Leann George and husband, Jason, of Elkins; four brothers, Jerry Deal and wife, Jayne, of Salisbury, PA, Bernerd Deal and wife, Brenda, of Cumberland, MD, Paul Deal of Meyersdale, PA, George Deal and wife, Janet, of Salisbury, PA; and one sister, Ellen Opel and husband, Lee, of Salisbury, PA.

She was a graduate of the Salisbury Elk Lick High School in Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Shepherd College with a degree in home economics and earned her master’s degree from West Virginia University.  She was a 4-H home economics agent for Pendleton County from 1974 to 1978 and Tucker County. She was a 4-H volunteer for Tucker County.

At the time of her death, she worked for the Randolph County WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Program.  She was a member of the Parsons Presbyterian Church where she served as clerk of the session and an elder of the church.  She was a former member of the Hendricks Ruritan Club. She loved to sew and was an avid reader.

Final rites were conducted Monday at the funeral home parlor of the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons with the Reverend Charles Voderberg officiating.  Interment followed at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows.

Lucy M. Hevener

Lucy Mila (Butcher) Hevener, of the Deer Run Community, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 12, 2004.  Her passing occurred at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she had been a patient for six days. 

Born in Onego, West virginia, on July 7, 1929., she was the seventh child of Hurl and Bessie Huffman Butcher. 

In 1947, Lucy graduated from Circleville High School.  She then attended Shenandoah Conservatory of Music and later graduated from Catherman's Business School in Cumberland, Maryland.  She was employed by Harry Wolfe at the sawmill which is now Allegheny Wood. 

On August 16, 1952, she married John Audrith Hevener, Sr., who survives.  Then she began the life-long career of homemaking, cooking, canning, sewing, and caring for her husband and family.  She faithfully supported her family's many endeavors by attending sporting events, banquets, and concerts, and babysitting her grandchildren.  She continued to bless her family with dinners and birthday gatherings, making each one's special cake, throughout her life.  

Being a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, she was active in the choir, taught Sunday School and helped faithfully with music at bible School and in Christmas programs.  She loved singing and was a soloist for church, funerals, weddings and other gatherings.  Singing alto and playing the guitar for the Deer Run Quartet was another highlight of her life.  

Lucy lived her life serving the Lord and her family. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister, Helen Ingram of Texas; a brother, Kermit Butcher, and a foster brother, Rupert Adamson, both of Harman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Larry and Lois Byers of Deer Run and Andy and Beverly Eye of Ft. Seybert; one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Nicole Hevener of Deer Run; grandchildren, Joshua Byers, Elijah Byers, Joel Byers, Rebekah Byers, Aaron Eye, Seth Eye, Isaac Eye, Brooke Hevener, Daniel Hevener and Timothy Hevener, as well as several nieces and nephews.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Chester, Forrest, Stern and worth, and an infant brother and sister. 

Friends called upon the family at the Heverner home or at the Basagic Funeral Home.  A celebration of her life was held at Mount Zion United Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 16, at 11:00 p.m., with Pastor David Fisher officiating.  interment was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.  

Memorials may be given to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, HC 72 Box 26A, Franklin, WV  26807.
