Larry Alan Roach

Larry Alan Roach, 54, of Petersburg, died March 6, 2006, at his residence.

Born Sept. 28, 1951, in Bethesda, MD, he was the son of the late Joseph Edward Roach and Connie Marie Ruddle Roach.

Mr. Roach was a house painter and carpenter.  He was a graduate of Potomac High School and was a Methodist by faith. 

Surviving are one sister, JoAnn Teter of Circleville; one brother, Joseph E. Roach Jr. of Hagerstown, MD; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will beheld at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to any volunteer fire company or rescue squad.

Larry Vandevander, 62

Larry J. Vandevander, 62, went to rest Saturday March 11, 2006, at his home in Toano, VA. 

Born April 7, 1943, in Harrisonburg, VA, he was the son of Arvella Vandevander of Franklin and the late John Vandevander. 

Mr. Vandevander grew up in White Sulphur springs and Franklin. He was a Vietnam veteran and was previously employed as an electrician with IBEW 666 in Richmond, VA. 

Surviving are his wife Wanda of Williamsburg, VA; two sons, Jason and David Vandevander, both of White Sulphur Srpings; one daughter, Bobby Lou, who lives in Germany; a brother Gary in Lewisburg; one sister, Sonja Anderson of Franklin; two stepdaughters, Terri of Williamsburg, VA, and Cindy of Holly Springs, NC; four grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Walnut Street United Methodist Church, Franklin.

Nelson Funeral Home, Williamsburg, VA, is in charge of funeral arrangements. 

Zola A. See, 78 

Zola Annie See, 78, of Moorefield died Monday, March 13, 2006, at her home. 

Mrs. See was born Oct. 26, 1927, in Upper Tract and was the daughter of the late John M. Crites and Stella Smith Crites Kimble.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Moorefield  Assembly of god church. 

Her husband, Bud See, preceded her in death in February 1995. 

Survivors include a son, Dorman See of Moorefield; two daughters, Joan Southerly and Ruby Shupe, both of Moorefield; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. 

Pastor Steven Schetrom will conduct the funeral today at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield.  Burial will follow at the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield.

Dennis Dale Miller Sr., 59

Dennis Dale Miller Sr., 59, of Maysville, died March 8, 2006, at Petersburg.

Mr. Miller was born March 24, 1946, in Keyser and was the son of James R. Miller and step-mother, Alma Miller of Keyser, and the late Mildred Maude "Millie" Mongold Alexander and his step-father, Olin Edwin Alexander.

He was the owner and operator of Windmill Auto Sales and D & M Towing in Petersburg. 

His wife, Matilda Faye Carr Miller, survives in Maysville. 

Surviving besides his wife, father and step-mother, are three sons, Dennis Dale Miller Jr., of Petersburg, Bradley Steven Miller and wife, Betty of Maysville and Timothy Allen Miller of Cabins; two brothers, Arthur Olin Alexander of Mozer and Jimmy Miller of Keyser; three sisters, Ressie Frances Chavis of Cherry Valley, CA, and Carol Crites, of Cherry Valley, CA, and Linda Slack of Baltimore, MD; and six grandchildren, Dennis Andrew Miller, Tiffany Renee Miller, Bradley Steven Miller, II, Michelle Elizabeth Miller, Rebecca Lynn Miller and Rodger Andrew Miller.

The Rev. Bruce Cosner conducted a memorial service Saturday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was private in the Maysville Cemetery.

Dolin Dale Ratliff, 68

Dolin Dale Ratliff, 68, died March 5, 2006, at McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden, Utah.

Mr. Ratliff was born Feb. 21, 1938, in Mozer and was the son of the late Chaney W. and Neva Hartman Ratliff.

He grew up in Timberville, VA and attended Timberville Elementary School, Broadway High School, and Weber State College in Ogden UT.  He served four years of active duty in the Air Force (1957-1961) with two years in Japan.  He was a heavy mobile equipment mechanic for 25 years at Hill Air Force Base, retiring in November 1990.

Mr. Ratliff was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Clinton 6th Ward.  He was one of the founders of Ogden Valley Muzzleloading Gun Club and was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association and a member  of the International Foot Printer Association Chapter #27 and the Golden Spike Lodge #719 Elkins. 

On March 25, 1960, he married Connie Nebeker Ratliff, who survives.   

also surviving are a daughter, Dawn A. Ratliff of Clinton, UT; a brother, Leland C. Ratliff of LaVerkin, UT; and a sister, Velma Nesselrodt of Mount Sidney, VA; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral was conducted Thursday at Linquist's Mortuary in Ogden, UT. Burial with with military honors followed Linquist's Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch.

Leslie Bert Lambert 

Leslie Bert Lambert, 96, of Franklin left this earth of time and started his journey into eternity on Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin. 

He was born Feb. 12, 1910, in Zigler and was the son of the late McKenzie Cain Lambert and Pearlie Etta Moyers Lambert-Hartman. 

He was a member of the generation that lived through the depression.  He always found work and retired from Shockley Hatchery at the age of 65. He then started painting and continued until he was nearly 90 years old.  He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  

In October 1928, he married Evelyn Melvina Smith Lambert, who died on Aug. 22, 1989.  From this union, 11 children were born: Virginia Lee White of Edmonds, WA, Doris Williams of Glencoe, PA, Madeline Hoover and Mary Jane Santelli, both of Franklin. Cleo Lambert of Willards, MD, Dale Lambert of Seattle, WA, Jerry Lambert of Comfort, Richard Lambert of Vulcan, Alberta, Canada, and Flossie Bell, Rachel and Howard, who preceded him in death.  

He was also the father of Gary McKinney of Marlinton, Nancy Green of Marlinton and the late Nellie McKinney of Marlinton. 

In June 1960, he married Evelyn (Rexrode) Lambert of Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin, who was by his side at his death. 

Also surviving are two half-sisters, Catherine Smith of Franklin and Dessie Witt of Turtle Creek, PA; two half-brothers, Edwin Hartman and Charles Hartman, both of Franklin; 45 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. 

Also preceding him in death were two brothers, three sisters and four grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-Day Saints in Franklin with Bishop David Hartman presiding.  Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin, by Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin.

Dorothy A. Kile, 78

Dorothy Arleta Kile, 78, of Vine Street in Harrisonburg, VA, died Friday, March 10, 2006, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA, where she had been a patient for the past three days. 

Mrs. Kile was born June 15, 1927, in Pendleton county and was a daughter of the late Harry E. and Nellie C. Eye Hoover. 

She was employed at the Bridgewater Furniture Company and the dinner Belle Restaurant.  She was a member of First Assembly of God Church. 

On Oct. 16, 1944, she married William Vernon Kile, who preceded her in death Oct 23, 1980. 

Survivors include a son, William V. "Bill" Kile, Jr., of Mount Crawford, VA; four daughters, Carolyn June Spitzer, Joann Kile and Sue Showalter, all of Harrisonburg, VA, and Dottie Fisher of Waynesboro, VA; two sisters, Retha Mae Steele of Scottsdale, PA, and Mabel Harold of Franklin; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  

The casket was closed. 

Pastor Jeff Ferguson conducted a graveside service Monday at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Randolph Smith, 90

Randolph "Dot' Miller Smith, 90, of Monterey, VA, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at his home. 

He was born June 1, 1915, at Monterey, VA, a son of the late Bruce and Ruth Mae (Bowers) Smith. 

Mr. Smith was a farm hand and past member of Asbury United Methodist church. 

He was the last member of his immediate family.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Velma Ellena (Propst) Smith of Monterey, VA; a daughter, Geri Tuning and her husband, Joe of Hot Springs, VA; a son, Raymond Smith and his wife, Betty of Monterey, VA; three grandchildren, Greg and Tim Tuning of Burnsville, VA, and Katrina Smith of Strasburg, VA, and two great-grandsons, Austin and Wade Tuning.  

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph W. smith, and a sister, Virginia Minitree. 

A graveside service was conducted Wednesday at the smith Cemetery near Monterey, VA, by the Rev. Mike Sullivan.

Mrs. Mary Ann Hobson, 

Mrs. Mary Ann (Patch) Alt Hobson, 68, of Baltimore, MD, and formerly of Petersburg, died March 7, 2006, at Franklin Square Hospital, Baltimore, MD.

Born Dec. 24, 1937, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Patch and Eva Lena (Harper) Patch. 

She retired from Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, MD. 

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Galen Alt and Fritz Hobson.

Surviving are three sons, Galen D. Alt Jr., Ricky A. Alt and Randall S. Alt and wife, Kellie, all of Baltimore; one sister, Edith Patch of Georgia; two brothers, Richard Patch of Petersburg and James "Pete" Patch and wife, Mary Helene of Maysville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, many of whom live in Pendleton County.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Doris Alt, and three brothers, Marvin Patch, Frederick "Bucky" Patch and Cecil Patch.

Funeral services were Friday at the Bruzdzinski Funeral Home Chapel, Baltimore, MD. Burial was in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, Baltimore, MD.

Gerald S. Warner

Gerald S. “Jurl” Warner, 74, a resident of Eglon and a patient in Devlin Manor at Cumberland, MD, passed away March 8, 2006, at the manor.

Born June 18, 1931, at Whitmer, he was the son of the late Adam Harness and Jessie Elza Warner.

Mr. Warner had worked for many years on the fmaily farm and was a member of the Whitmer Church of God.  

Surviving are a brother, Charles E. Warner of Harrisonburg, VA; six nieces, Ruth Miller of New Market, VA, Debra Warner of Harrisonburg, VA, Kathryn Tipton of Norfolk, VA, Shirley Campbell of Elkton, VA, Melody White of Broadway, VA, and Miriam Hedrick of Seneca Rocks; and a nephew, Douglas Warner of Fulks Run, VA; and several great-nieces and nephews also survive. 

Also preceding him in death was one brother, one sister and a niece, Charlotee Weatherholtz.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Tomblyn funeral Home, Elkins with Rev. Eli Hostetler officiating. Interment followed in the Laurel Hill Cemetery near Whitmer.
