Pauline Lucas, 67

Pualine Frazier Lucas 67, of Grottoes, VA, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2007, after battling leukemia. 

She was born May 25, 1939, in Augusta County, VA, the daughter of the late Miley J. and Dealie Catherine Frazier. 

After more than 30 years, she retired from the Virginia Department of Forestry. 

She also enjoyed her summers on the road with West Virginia Amusements, playing bingo, scratching lottery tickets, cooking for her family every Sunday and making sure her baby kept her stomach full, but mostly spending time with her grandchildren.  Her family was her greatest love. 

Her husband, Hoover Lucas, preceded her in death. 

Surviving are six children, Mary Ellen Thomas and husband, Steve, of Grottoes, VA, Judy Faye Williams and husband, Ray,, of Elkton, VA, Donna Kay Rader and husband, Willie, of Sugar Grove, Diane Lee Breeden and David of Elkton, VA, Joanne Marie Baber and husband, Ricky, of Grottoes, VA, Larry Ray Lucas and wife, Wendy, of Grottoes, VA; four siblings, Sarah Thornton, Homer Frazier, Frances Lam, and Vernon Frazier, all of Grottoes, VA; 12 grandchildren, Jamie Turner., Tonya Kisling, Jeffrey Thomas, Daniel Baber, Ray Williams, Amber Rader, Scott Williams, Lori Breeden, Emily Baber, Travis Rader, Corbin Lucas and Aislinn Lucas; four great-grandchildren, Jay turner, Judah Turner, Ryan Williams and Alexis Kisling; and a number of special nieces and nephews. 

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Frazier. 

The Revs. Ronald Spencer and Charles Spencer conducted the service Wednesday at the Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle near Elkton, VA.  Burial was at the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery near Crimora, VA. 

Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton, VA, was in charge of funeral arrangements. 

Thomas Michael, 83

Thomas Arnold "Tom" Michael, 83, of Fisher, died Sunday, March 11 at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Mr. Michael, was born July 5, 1923, in Medley and was the son of the late Lyle and Ora G. Cosner Michael. 

He was a mechanic for the West Virginia Department of Highways, Justin Arnold Equipment Company and Crites Equipment.  He was a member of the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company, a veteran of World War II and a life member of the VFW Post 6454.  

HIs wife Vera Mae Bonner Thompson Michael, survives. 

Also survivng are a step-son, John Thompson of Maysville; five step-daughters, Linda Rexrode of Brandywine, Brenda Simmons of Cherry Grove, Sarah Simmons of Culpepper, VA, Ann Thompson of Riverton and Sandy Lease of Romney; three sisters, Katherine Bennett of Cabins, Audra Winters of Romney and Mary Poling of Slanesville; four brothers, Ray Michael of Three Churches, Glenn Michael of Newark, OH, Bobby Michael of Romney and Arlie Michael of Petersburg;  four stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Michael and Earl Michael.

The funeral was held Tuesday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was at the Lahmansville Cemetery with military honors by the VFW Post 6454 and JROTC.

Herbert Simmons, 75

Herbert H. "Herbie" Simmons, 75, of Franklin died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at Nella's Nursing Home in Elkins. 

Mr. Simmons was born July 11, 1931, in Moyers and was the son of the late William Early Simmons and Elva Gertrude Simmons. 

He was a truck driver for Loudoun County Quarry. 

He never married. 

Surviving are a brother, Calvin Coolie Simmons of Franklin; and a number of nieces and nephews. 

Pastor Calvin Bailey conducted the funeral Saturday at the Chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was in the Thorn Creek Memorial Gardens in Moyers.
