Charles Richard Harper 

Chrarles Richard "Chick" Harper, age 75, Seneca Rocks, passed away and went to his Heavenly Father, Friday, March 7, 2003, at his home with his family present.

Mr. Harper was born Dec. 2, 1927, in Riverton and was the son of the late Frank and Nola White Harper.  

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.  He was a talented carpenter by trade and worked many years in the area.  He was a member of the Carpenters Local 1024, Cumberland, MD. 

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Billie Gale Harper, whom he married Dec. 2, 1950; a daughter, Patricia, and her husband, Freddie Cooper of Seneca Rocks; a son, Richard Harper and his wife, Elizabeth of Seneca rocks; three grandchildren, Rodney Cooper and wife, Angie Sheena Harper and Felicia Harper, all of Seneca rocks; three great-grandchildren, Logan, Luke and Terry Cooper; two sisters Ramona Hedrick of Ohio, and Virgie Harper of Franklin.  

He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Wood Harper, Ward Harper, Clem Harper and Clarence Harper; three sisters, Elsie Lyzier Wilson, Beulah Houser and Grethel Burris. 

There was a private family funeral service at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg and private military graveside service at the South Branch Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, with the combined Veteran Organizations of Grant County.

Evelyn Vance Smith

Evelyn Hope Vance Smith, 76, of Baltimore, MD, and formerly of Onego, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at her home. 

Mrs. Smith was born April 15, 1926, in Onego and was a daughter of the late Mason and Bertha F. Vance. 

She taught school in Pendleton county and later was a secretary for Commercial Credit in Baltimore, MD.  She was a member of the Methodist Church in Essex, MD. 

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Berlin J. Smith; a daughter, Terri Schwarz of Monkton, MD; two sisters, Eula Bland of Seneca Rocks, and Grace Harper of Warren, OH; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Dessie Hartman, Jessie Tingler and Joy Bowers; and four brothers, Dale Vance, Lester Vance, Marvin Vance and Carl Vance. 

Pastor Charles " Dusty" Twigg and the Rev. Earl Bible will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Friday at Onego Church of the Brethren, Onego.  Burial will be at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton. 

The famiy will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
