Charlotte Virginia Botkin

Charlotte Virginia Botkin, 77, of Monterey, VA, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Augusta Health, Fishersville, VA.

She was born April 24, 1935, in Monterey, VA, a daughter of the late James Randolph and Edith Jane (Swearingen) Rexrode.

Mrs. Botkin had worked at Hanover Shoe Company and also in home health care for the elderly.

She enjoyed her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren.

On June 20, 1953, she married George “Jack” Botkin, who preceded her in death on March 18, 2009.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Steve Badgley of Stuarts Draft, VA, Pamela and Mike Hawthorne of Staunton, VA, and Tamela and Lowell Simmons of Doe Hill, VA; four sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Annie Botkin, Donald and Karen Botkin all of Head Waters, Ronald and Caroline Botkin of Monterey, VA and Douglas and Peggy Botkin of Upper Tract; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Maxine Simmons and Brenda Puffenbarger both of Staunton, VA, Nancy Stanley of Mount Solon, VA, and her brother, Curtis “Bub” Rexrode of Monterey, VA

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Ann Lotts and Barbara Jean Mitchell; and her brother, Roger Dale Rexrode.

A funeral service was conducted Wednesday, at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial followed at Crummett Family Cemetery near McDowell.

Dorotha Kile Thompson

Dorothy “Dot” Kile Thompson, 90, of Birmingham, AL, died Feb. 27, 2013, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Tom and Mary Stone, and with her loyal companion, Deanie, a 75 pound Labrador retriever.

Born Dec. 12, 1922 in Upper Tract, she was the daughter of the late George Arthur and Cleta Mae Kile and granddaughter of the late Samuel and Edna Mallow.

Before moving to Birmingham, AL, she lived in Towson, MD.

Mr. Thompson graduated from Franklin High School and Potomac State University. She worked as an accountant and administrative assistant for many years bur happily assumed the role of homemaker when she married.

One her happiest times after moving to Birmingham, AL, was the October, 2012 wedding of grandson, Jeff, to Rachael Sparrow of Butler, AL, who live and work as accountants in Atlanta, GA.

She loved West Virginia. During her final months she talked frequently with Alton King, chaplain, who had been a pastor at a church in Bluefield. They shared memories of the history and beauty of West Virginia. Her life in Birmingham, AL, and final days were made immeasurable better by the support and care of Elizabeth Allbritton and the in-home hospice team led by Bobby Knowles.

Her beloved husband, Fred, died in May, 2011 after an eight year battle with cancer. They were married 41 years.

Surviving are four brothers, Stanley Kile and wife, Ruth and Carroll Kile, all of Franklin, Samuel Keith Kile of Pendleton Manor, and George Arlin Kile and wife, Faye of Upper Tract; two sisters, Kathleen Lotspeich of Morgantown and Eleanor Triem of Eugene, OR: a sister-in-law, Joyce Kile; beloved member of the extended family, including Margaret Smith of Upper Tract, Bill Wright and wife, June of Beckley and Linnette Hudson of Baltimore, MD; and many nieces nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard L. Kile, died in Charlotte, NC, in 2005; and two brothers-in-law, Fred Lotspeich and Paul Triem.

Theresa Lynn Baker

Theresa Lynn Baker, age 49 of Huntington, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Hospice of Huntington.

She was born on May 1, 1963 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Wilda Mae Warner Cook of Harrisonburg, VA and the late Arnold Lester “Tinker” Cook.

She was a graduate of Circleville High School, was a Methodist by faith and was a Tow Truck Driver for Baker Towing.

Theresa married Johnny Ray Baker, who lives in Huntington

Also surviving are a daughter, Janice Faye Watson of Grayson, KY; three sons, Davie Lester Baker of Huntington, Philip Ray Baker of Newkent, VA, Kevin Roy Baker of Huntington; two sisters, Debbie Newcomb and husband John and Melissa Cook both of Harrisonburg, VA; a half sister, April Cook of Petersburg; a brother, Robert Cook and wife Angie of Brandywine; a half brother, Wesley Cook of Franklin; and five grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Lynn.

A Celebration of Life was conducted by Rev. Randy Miller on Saturday, in the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin. Interment was at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin.

George Compton, Jr., 75

George “Bud” Compton, Jr. age 75 formerly of Moorefield whom last resided in Front Royal, VA, passed away Tuesday morning, February 26, 2013 at the Rose Hill Nursing Home in Berryville, VA.

He was born October 11, 1937 in Riverton a son of the late George Tyree Compton and “Sally” Kate Warner.

He was a truck driver for Giant Foods and was a member of the Teamsters Local # 639 of Washington, DC.

Surviving are three daughters, Karen Fortunato of Front Royal, VA, Sharon Watson of Edgewater, MD and Amanda Compton of Middleton, VA; the mother of his three daughters Bonnie (Siebert) Compton; three grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by seven sisters and two brothers.

The family received friends from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, Moorefield.

Graveside services were conducted Sunday, at the North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton with the Rev. Stanley Kile officiating. Interment followed.
