Earl Arbogast

Earl Arbogast, age 74 of Elkins, formerly of Cherry Grove, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at his residence.

He was born at Cherry Grove, on January 4, 1938, the son of the late Don (12-21-1963) and Icie Teter Arbogast (12-10-1984).

He was a 1956 graduate of Circleville High School. He was noted as the fastest fast-pitch softball pitcher on the east coast and pitched against the world renowned softball team, “The King and His Court”. Earl pitched at the Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, PA: he was very proud of this accomplishment. He was a retired School Bus Driver for Pendleton County Schools, was a Farmer, a High School Sports Official, and was a Methodist by faith.

Also surviving are two daughters, Cathy Lynn Arbogast of Petersburg, Karen Denise Hammond and husband Bradley of Elkins; a son, Douglas Earl Arbogast and wife Mary of Fredericksburg, VA; two brothers, Guy Arbogast and wife Karen of Elkins, Carl Arbogast of Alliance, OH; six grandchildren, Brian, Brett, Brooke Arbogast and Nicholas, Braden, and Allysun Hammond, and two great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Bryce Arbogast and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday a the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin.

Wilton Max Harper, Jr., 67, of Franklin passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. Harper was a self-employed logger and also had driven a tractor trailer for Hanover Shoe Company for 30 years. He had served in the US Army. He loved the outdoors, fishing and animals, especially his pet squirrels.

Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Tish and Billy McDaniel and Abby and K.C. Hutchinson; five grandchildren, Breanna Judy, Damiaen Mullenax, Destiny Harper, Daisy Hutchinson and Skylar McDaniel; a brother, Charles Harper and wife, Anita of Franklin; a sister, Juanita Richards of Franklin; aunt and uncle, Bonnie and Bill Wimer of Franklin; three special nieces, Jane Ann Malcolm, Ashley Firor and Michelle Marshall; three very special friends, Roger Arbogast, Philip Halterman and Pat Hull; and a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.

A funeral service was conducted Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA, with the Rev. Andra Crummett officiating. Burial followed at Harper Family Cemetery.

Lucy Wimer Arbaugh Bennett, age 87, of Petersburg, formerly of Cherry Grove, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.

She was born at (Smith Creek) Franklin, WV, on May 31, 1924, the daughter of the late Taylor and Rebecca Vandevander Wimer.

Mrs. Bennett attended Pendleton County Schools, was a member of the Church of the Brethren, and was a Homemaker and a Mother

She was twice married. Her husbands, Clifton Arbaugh and Andrew Dice Bennett (May 15, 2011), preceded her in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Robbie Riggleman and husband James of Burlington, Sudie Marie Selmon and husband Ralph of Cherry Grove, Nola Thomas and husband Bruce of Morningside, MD; two sons, David M. Arbaugh of Dayton, VA, Luther Arbaugh of Broadway, VA; two step-sons, Douglas Bennett of Harrisonburg,

VA, Mayo Arbaugh of Cherry Grove; five step daughters, Ideva Martin of Harrisonburg, VA, Thelma Foley of Harrisonburg, VA, Margie Wimer of Franklin, Arveda Nesselrodt of Brandywine, Norma Thomas of Harrisonburg, VA; a brother, Ambrose Wimer and wife Frances of Cherry Grove; 15 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and several step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, Gary and Robert Arbaugh; a step daughter, Alfleda Vandevander; five brothers, Martin, Ocie, Marvin, Walter, Philip Wimer; two sisters, Sally Greathouse, Regana Arbaugh; three grandchildren, Patsy Riggleman, Lucinda Riggleman, Tammy Selmon; two great-grandchildren, Josh and Jared Riggleman.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Rebecca Bennett officiating. Interment will be at North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton, WV.

She was born Sep 1, 1925, at Brandywine, the daughter of the late James Luther and Flora Jane Mitchell Pitsenbarger.

She graduated from Franklin High School, received a secretarial degree from Capital University, Columbus, OH, and while there met and married her husband.

Mrs. Faber was an avid bridge player. She and her husband enjoyed traveling all over the world on various cruise lines, teaching bridge to interested passengers. They gave of their time freely to volunteer activities at their church, Emanuel Lutheran.

Also surviving are two sons, George Steven and wife, Wendy of Diamond Bar, CA; and Craig Allen and wife, Mary Lou of Yorbalinda, CA; two granddaughers, Amanda and Julie; a grandson, Jonathan; two sisters, Carrie Schulz of Franklin and Anna Ruth Scheiderer and husband, Jacob of Youngstown, OH; and one brother, Walter Mahlon Pitsenbarger, and wife, Jane of Cary, NC.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Frank Anderson, James Luther, Jr., and John Paul.

Mr. Rexrode served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Rexrode was a member of Blue Grass United Methodist Church and a charter member, with perfect attendance in Blue Grass Ruritan Club, formed in 1952.

Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Loretta Sue and Wayne Teter; two grandsons, Tim Teter and wife, Vicky, and William "Chad" Teter and wife, Dixie; four great-grandchildren, Emma, Ethan, Jason and Lori Teter, all of Swoope, VA; son-in-law, Eugene Poats of Monterey, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Poats; sister, Mary Florence Bennett; and brother, Ivan Carl Rexrode.

A funeral service was conducted at Blue Grass United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Andre Crummett officiating. Burial was in Blue Grass Cemetery. family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.

Mr. Eye was born on September 25, 1926 in Rockingham County and was the son of the Roy and Bessie Payne Eye.

He owned and operated Everett’s Exxon for over forty years. He was a member of Harrisonburg United Brethren Church in Christ.

Surviving are four children, Dana Wilfong and husband John of Ottobine, VA, Wayne Eye and wife Doris of Clover Hill, VA, Phillip Eye and wife Sharon of Mt. Crawford, VA, James Eye of Hinton, VA; seven brothers and sisters, Bill Eye of Mount Clinton, VA, Silvia Wheelbarger of Clover Hill, VA, Nancy Pennington of Ottobine, VA, Lillie Simon, Reba Simons both of Hinton, VA, Polly Lambert of Briery Branch, Betty Horan of Franklin; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Sunday at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, Harrisonburg, VA with Pastor Harold Myers, Jr., officiating.

Robert Conrad Lough, 84, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland, MD.

Born Oct. 5, 1927, in Franklin, W.Va., Mr. Lough was the son of the late Howard Lough and Hattie Dora (Glover) Lough.

A United States Army/Air Corps veteran and later a United States Air Force veteran of World War II, Bob retired from Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. He attended the Rawlings United Methodist Church.

A committal service was conducted at the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap on Friday with Pastor Sandy Cowan officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

Morris James Cook, 84, of Christiansburg, passed away Friday, February 10, 2012, at the Virginia Veterans Hospital in Salem.

Mr. Cook served in the United States Army retiring as a Sergeant First Class after twenty-three years. Mr. Cook received the Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart while serving in the Army. He served in WW II, Korea and Vietnam. He then worked and retired from the United States Post Office after twenty years of service.

Also surviving are two daughters and spouse, Barbara J. & Reggie Jones of Christiansburg, VA, Marjie A. Henry of Virginia Beach, VA; close family friend, Stephen J. Henry; grandchildren, Jimmy Willis of Christiansburg, VA, Chris and Cassie Henry of Virginia Beach, VA; great grandchildren, Chris Willis, Robbie Willis, Kaylee Willis, Caleb Henry, and Nathan Henry. He is also survived by his brother, Raymond “Ick” Cook of Edgewater, MD; sister & brother-in-law, Ruby and Bob Phares of Circleville; sisters-in-law and husbands, Shirley & Frank Hall of Staunton, VA, Helen & Larry Smith of Georgia; brothers, Harry Johnson & wife Dolly, Bill Johnson, all of Staunton, VA and Frank Johnson of Lexington, VA.

A funeral service was held Feb. 13 in the Mausoleum at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Richard Kingrea officiating.

Johnny Delmar Morral, 68, of Dayton, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA.

He was a son of the late Burrel William and Ruby Ellen Huffman Morral and was born in Rockingham County on December 24, 1943.

Mr. Morral attended schools in both Clover Hill and Dayton. He was a United States Army Veteran and was stationed in South Korea. He was a poultry and cattle farmer and enjoyed hunting, playing poker and hanging out with friends.

Also surviving two sons, Gary W. Morral, and Jonathan S. Morral, and companion Amy Arey, all of Dayton, VA; a step-son, Donald R. Stroop, and wife Nora, of Harrisonburg, VA; a step-daughter, Betty M. Caldwell, and husband Jimmy, of Clover Hill, VA; a brother, Richard B. “Buzz” Morral, of Dayton, VA; sisters, Patsy Londeree, of Staunton, VA, Donna Chandler, of Harrisonburg, VA, Adaline Hilbert, of Pennsylvania, and Mary Lee Ewing, of Harrisonburg, VA; and step-grandchildren, April Caldwell, Wesley Stroop, Dustin Stroop, Amanda Caldwell, and Ashley Stroop.

A funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg, VA with Pastor W.L. “Sonny” Henkel officiating. Burial will follow at Clover Hill Cemetery with military rites by the Dayton American Legion Post 27.

Josephine "Josie" Madden, 76, a resident of Avante of Harrisonburg, died at 9:45 Tuesday morning at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA.

Miss Madden enjoyed the outdoors and gardening and was fond of fishing. She retired from JMU Food Service after 30 years.

Surviving are three daughters, Nancy Wright and Mildred M. Thomas, both of Harrisonburg, VA; Esther Wright of Franklin; one son, Lester McCall of Harrisonburg, VA; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
