Rebecca Ann Hoten
Rebecca Ann Hoten, age 73 of Brandywine, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Rockingham
Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.She was born at Brandywine on August 2, 1938, the daughter of the late Ralph and Georgia “Georgie” Snyder
Gillispie.Mrs. Hoten was a 1957 graduate of Franklin High School and was a member of the Women's Fellowship at the
Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren. She was a Bookkeeper at H & J Superette in Brandywine.On July 9, 1971, Rebecca married Clarence Hoten, who survives in Brandywine.
Also surviving are a daughter, Jennifer Hoten of Harrisonburg, VA; a son, C. C. Hoten of Brandywine; a sister,
Judy Pope of Seattle, WA; two brothers, David Gillispie and wife Sharon of Brandywine, Johnnie Gillispie and wife Linda of Front Royal, VA.She was also preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Cedar Gove Church of Brethren, Brandywine with Pastor Pat Godfrey
and Mark Bowser officiating.Respecting Rebecca's wishes, her body was cremated.
Memorials may be made to Rockingham Memorial Hospital or Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren.

.Jessie Hyerly, 105
Jessie Hammer Byerly of Augusta County, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on February 2, 2012.
She was born in Pendleton County, West Virginia on June 14, 1906 and was a daughter of the late Henry Dice
and Rachel (Simmons) Hammer.She moved to Augusta County in 1939.
Mrs. Byerly lived a happy, healthy, independent life for 105 years. Many who knew her called her “an
inspiration” as she was well-known for her positive outlook, exuberance for life, and her deep relationships with friends and family. She was an active member of the Moscow Church of the Brethren for 72 years. She felt it was her calling to visit members of her community and often brought along one of her famous custard pies.Her husband, J. Glen Byerly,preceded her in death in 1963.
Surviving are four children: Lo Aldhizer and her husband, George, of Harrisonburg, VA; Tom Byerly (late wife
Martha) of Mt. Solon, VA; Dr. Jim Byerly and his wife, Peggy, of Merced, CA; and Ellen Adams (late husband Stan) of Four Oaks, NC; nine grandchildren, George Aldhizer III and his wife, Lisa, of Winston Salem, NC; Carol Delia and her husband, David, of Martinsville, NJ; Liz Sloat and her husband, John, of Bainbridge Island, WA; Travis Byerly and his wife, Susan, of Churchville, VA; Trent Byerly and his wife, Debbie, of Bridgewater, VA; Lisa Dettling and her husband, Ryan, of Campbell, CA; James Byerly and his wife, Kathryn, of Alexandria, VA; David Adams and his wife, Jenny, of Raleigh, NC; and Deborah Parr of Salt Lake City, UT and sixteen great grandchildren who called her “Nana.”A private burial preceded the memorial Service held at Moscow Church of the Brethren, Mt. Solon, VA.

Stanley F. Bland
Stanley F. Bland, 82, of Brunswick Hills passed into eternity surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 28, 2012.
He was born May 22, 1929 in Franklin, WV to Kennie and Annie Bland.
Mr. Bland was a godly man who loved to serve at Unity Free Will Baptist Church. He also served our nation during
the Korean War in the United States Army. He was a retiree of the Ford Motor Company, Local 1250, after 25 years of service in C.C.P. and a Brunswick resident for 48 years.His loving wife of 58 years, Rosie (nee Nethken) Bland, survives
Also surviving are adoring children Michael A. And wife, Darla Bland of Seville, OH, Wilbur E. And wife, Judy
Bland of Hinckley, OH and Cynthia Sue and husband, Douglas Winterstein of Brunswick, OH; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and brother Guy Bland of Riverton.He was also preceded in death three brothers, Thurman Bland, Russell Bland and an infant brother, and four sisters,
Ona Warner, Nola Harper, Kate Bland and Sudie Nelson.Funeral services were held at Unity Free Will Baptist Church with a military burial following at Eastlawn Memory

Mary Sophia Murphy
Mary Sophia Murphy, age 90, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.
She was born in Stephenville, Newfoundland on August 12, 1921, the daughter of the late Andrew and Flora
Anne (Aucoin) Gallant.She was a traveling teacher in small communities in Newfoundland, where she taught home economics. Mary
was employed by the Department of Transportation at Harman Air Base in Stephenville, Newfoundland and had received her Secretarial Certificate in Vancouver. After taking tailoring courses in Okinawa she found enjoyment in dressmaking and alterations.Mrs. Murphy was a member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Franklin.
On October 7, 1961, Mary married Junior Sterrel Murphy, who survives in Franklin.
Also surviving are a daughter, Patricia Contrades and husband Stanley of Woodbridge, VA; a sister, Agnes
Gallant of Stephenville, Newfoundland; two grandchildren, Jonathan Contrades of China, and Lauren Contrades of Morgantown.She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gerard Gallant, Art Gallant; four sisters, Genevieve Paille,
Sarah Fitzpatrick, Hilda Goodland, and Dola Ryan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held be officiated by Rev. Mario Claro on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the St.
Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Franklin. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin.Family will receive friends on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.

James Ray Jack, 73
James (Jim) Ray Jack, 73, of Blue Grass, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at King's Daughters' Community
Health and Rehabilitation Center.He was born Feb. 17, 1938, in Blue Grass, a son of the late Robert Martin and Evelyn (Kiser) Jack.
Mr. Jack was a lifelong farmer and had also worked as a bookkeeper and truck driver, and retired as a courier for
Highland Data Services. Jim enjoyed sports, especially Cal Ripken and Bill Elliott. He was happiest when outdoors working on his farm, and the most important thing in his life was his family.His wife of 50 years, Sara (Dennison) Jack, survives.
Also surviving are a son, Gary Jack; a daughter, Terri Jamison and husband, David; two grandsons, Brian
Jamison and girlfriend, Kelsey Simmons, and Tyler Jamison and girlfriend, Nicole Newcomb, all of Blue Grass, VA; a brother, John W. Jack of Pendleton Manor, Franklin; several nieces and nephews; and special caregivers Margaret Beverage and Dot Warner.He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Martin Jack Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted at Blue Grass United Methodist Church by the Rev. Andre Crummett and
Rev. Richard Gibson. Burial will follow at Jack Family Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Dorsey Collett, 72
Dorsey Edward Collett 72, of Harrisonburg, VA passed away on Monday, February 6, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Collett was born June 18, 1939 in Elkins and was the son of the late Glenn Robert Collett and Kessler and
Myrtle Ware.He served in the U.S. Army and worked as a Mechanic and a State Inspector for over 40 years in Bridgewater
and Harrisonburg, VA.On June 22, 1960 he married Mary Ann Ratcliffe Collett, formerly of Upper Tract, who preceded him in death
on March 16, 2007.Surviving are one son, Robert Glenn Collett; two daughters, Louise F. Hummel and husband Roy, Joyce L.
Collett and fiancé, Robert Stevens; two brothers, Gary Ware, Troy Ware; two sisters, Lucille Proudfoot and Gloria Collett; Six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.A funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with pastor Norman
Butler officiating. Burial will be private.The family will receive friends tonight from 6p.m. to 8p.m. at Kyger Funeral Home, Harrisonburg, VA.
