Nancy Whetzel, 60

Nancy May Whetzel, 60, of Moorefield died WEdnesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at the WInchester MEdical Center in Winchester, VA. 

Mrs. Whetzel was born Sept. 19, 1945, in Old Fields and was the daughter of the alte SEymour and NEllie Shoemaker Shockey. 

Her husband, John R. Whetzel, survives. 

Also surviving are two sons, Landon Steward and Jason Whetzel, both of Moorefield; two daughters, Vickie Harvey and Tondia Wehtstone, both of Moorefield; five brothers, Roy Shockey and Jerry Shockey, both of Old Fields, Raymond Shockey of Moorefield, Boyd Shockey of Brandywine and Daniel Shockey of Roanoke, VA; a sister, Alice Shingleton of Old Fields; 15 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.  

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, two sons and a granddaughter.  

Stephen Smith conducted the funeral Saturday at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield.  Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery in Old Fields.

Donald G. Legg, 58

Donald Gene "Ridge Runner" Legg, 58, of Frankford, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, from injuries sustained in a tractor trailer accident on Route 33, near Seneca Rocks.

Mr. Legg was born Dec. 27, 1947, in Frankford, he was the son of Louise Spence Legg of Renick and the late George Thomas Legg. 

He  was a trucker and the owner of Lazy "L" Farm, where he was a breeder of Texas Longhorn cattle and Boer goats.  He was a member of the TLBAA, American Boer Goat Association, American Donkey and Mule Society and Over the Road truckers.  

He was also preceded in death by one brother, William Dwain Legg; one niece, Tammy; and one nephew, Eric.

Surviving are his former wife, Donna Johnston Legg of Lewisburg; a daughter, Shaundra Renee Legg of Columbia, MD; one son, Thomas Gene Legg of Ronceverte; a sister, Rebecca Johnson of Renick; three brothers, Eddie Legg and wife, Vera of Asbury, Thomas Legg and wife, Brenda of Frankford and Robert Legg of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandchildren, five nephews; and three nieces

Also preceding him in death were a brother, Willian Dwain Legg; a niece and a nephew.  .

The Rev. Emory Hanna conducted the funeral Saturday at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg.  Burial was in the Morningside Cemetery in Renick.

 Golda C. Wimer, 90

Golda Crigler Wimer, 90, of Franklin died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin. 

Mrs. Wimer was born Dec. 13, 1915, in Franklin and was the daughter of the late Harry Crigler and Nettie Arbogast Crigler. 

She retired from Hanover shoe company after 18 years of employment and had also worked in the Belle Meade Gift Shop in Harrisonburg, VA.  She was a member of the Franklin Presbyterian church. 

Her husband, Thomas Edwin Wimer, preceded her in death Aug. 29, 1963. 

Mrs. Wimer was the last survivor of her immediate family. 

She is survived by two sons, Edwin Wimer, Jr., of Franklin and Clark Nolan Wimer of Buford, GA; five grandchildren, Lori Ann De Moss, Tom Wimer, Elizabeth Armstrong, Dawn Haff and Clark Wimer, Jr.; and five great-grandchildren, Thomas Wimer, Philip Wimer, Justin Armstrong, Taylor Wolters and Joshua Huff. 

She also was preceded in death by five brothers, Richard Harry, Curtis, Ed and Virgil Crigler; and one sister, Fannie Crigler. 

The Rev. Carl Tribett and Pastor Susie Echols conducted the funeral Saturday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Pendleton Nursing Home, the Cedar Hill Cemetery Paving Fund or the Pendleton County Rescue Squad.  

Lena McDonald

Lena Kile McDonald, 82 of Moorefield died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg. 

Mrs. McDonald was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Deer Run and was the daughter of the late Isaac G. Kile and Mary Whetzel Kile. 

She was a food inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and was Methodist by faith. 

Survivors include a daughter, Diana McDonald of Bowie, MD; a son, Bob McDonald of Dunbar; a foster brother, Lloyd Stump of Landes; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. 

Pastor Ted Osgood will conduct the funeral at 11 a.m. today at the Elmore Funeral Home in Moorefield.  Burial will follow at the Lahmansville Cemetery. 

The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  

Emma Sponaugle, 83

Emma H. Sponaugle, 83, of Doe Hill, VA, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, VA.  

Mrs. Sponaugle was born July 10, 1922, in Kline and was the daughter of the late Hasper Amos and Anna MAry Ellen (Heavner) Hevener. 

She was a homemaker and was a member of the McKendree United Methodist Church and the United Methodist women. 

On Feb. 4, 1948, she married John A. Sponaugle , who preceded her in death march 30, 1996. 

Mrs. Sponaugle was the last survivor of her immediate family. 

Survivors include a daughter, Anna Gail Hartbarger of Nokesville, VA; three sons, John H. Sponaugle and wife, Pam of Grottoes, VA, and James K. Sponaugle and wife, Caroline, and Harry B. Sponaugle and wife, Sharon, all of Doe Hill, VA; nine grandchildren, Sarah and Laura Beth Sponaugle, Michael and Matthew Sponaugle, Cathy James, Laci Sponagle, Mallory, John and David Hartbarger; and four sisters-in-law, Violet Hevener of Upper Tract, Mary Propst of Moyers, Deloris Sponaugle of Philippi and Mary Mae Sponaugle of Franklin. 

She also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lilia Kay Sponaugle; two sisters, Lura Hevener and Jean Sponaugle; and two brothers, Paul and James Hevener. 

The Revs. Samuel Sponaugle and Dave Boger conducted the funeral Wednesday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA.  Burial will be at Blue Grass Cemetery.

William Oliver Lindsay

William Oliver "Billy" Lindsay, 74, of Dayton, OH, and formerly of Ronceverte passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at Maria JOseph Nursing Center in Dayton, OH.

Born Dec. 24, 1931, in Marlinton, he was the son of the late Enoch and Virginia Jordon-Lindsay. 

Mr. Lindsay retired from the Department of Defense, Washington, D.C.

Survivors include a sister, Patricia A. (Clifford) Sanford, ; three aunts, Sue Johnson, of Mt. Kisco, MY, Mary Lou Jordon, of White Sulphur and Jane (John) Boggs, of Brownberg; cousin, Patty Jean Willis of Franklin;35 nieces and nephews, seven great-nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.   

He also was preceded in death by two siblings, John Lindsay, Sr., and Barbara Jean Lindsay, and grandparents, John and Alice Lindsay. 

Funeral services were held Monday at Maria Joseph Chapel, 4830 Salem Avenue, Dayton, OH, with Father Charles Kanai officiating.  Interment was in Dayton National Cemetery. 

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 North Gettysburg Avenue, Dayton, OH 45406. 

Mary R. Kimble

Mrs. Mary Ruth Kimble, 67, of Upper Tract, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at her home.

Mrs. Kimble was born May 7, 1938, in Upper Tract and was the daughter of the late Albert Nelson Sr. and Lillie Florence Kimble Nelson. 

She was a homemaker and was a member of hte Petersburg Church of God.  She and her husband owned and operated Kimble's Lawn and Garden, Upper Tract. 

On Jun 12, 1965, she married Fred C. "J.R." Kimble, who survives.  

She is also survived a daughter, Joyce Dayton and husband, Jason of Lahmansville; a sister, Betty Mays of Upper Tract; one brother, Albert Nelson Jr., of Hinesville, GA; and one granddaughter, Megan Dayton.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Bishops Aaron Davidson and Dale Sharp conducted the funeral Saturday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was in the Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract.

Neufer M. Eye, 84

Neufer Moulton Eye, 84, of Strasburg, VA, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Martinsburg. 

Mr. Eye was born Aug. 22, 1921, in Franklin and was the son of the late Robert Andrew and Zell Warner Eye. 

He was a member of the Strasburg Presbyterian Church, the Westminister Brotherhood and the Strasburg Lions Club.  He was a veteran of the Army having served in the battles of Ardennes and Rhineland and in Central Europe during World War II.  He received the World War Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern campaign Medal.  He retired from the Winchester Southern States service department. 

Survivors include his wife, Izetta Snider eye; a son, Ronald S. Eye of Mathias, four daughters, Nancy D. Mumaw of Edinburg, VA, Jane Richard of Toms Brook, VA, Pat D. Robinson of Woodstock, VA, and Lisa E. Pangle of Strasburg, VA; a sister, Rosamone "Chungy" Moyers of Mathias; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. 

The Rev. David Howard conducted the funeral Thursday at the Strasburg Presbyterian Church.  Burial was at Panorama Memorial Gardens in Warren County, VA, with military honors by the Shenandoah American Legion Post No. 77 of Strasburg. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Strasburg Presbyterian Church, 325 S. Holliday ST., Strasburg, VA  22657. 

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Stover Funeral home in Strasburg, VA.
