Arnold Ray Malcom, 46, Spotswood, VA, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA.

Mr. Malcom was born April 17, 1954 at McDowell, VA, and was the son of Hazel Belle (Arbogast Malcom and the late Olen Faircloth Malcom.

Mr. Malcom worked at Kisamore Lumber Co. in Churchville, VA, for 25 years. He also worked part-time at Frank Foschini Slaughter House.

In addition to his mother and wife, both of Spotswood, VA, he is survived by seven daughters, April Buitendyke, Cherry Grove and Suttie Malcom, Kelly Malcom, Samantha Malcom, Dominque Malcom, Amber Malcom and Loriann Malcom, all of the home; three sons, Jimmy Malcom and Derrick Malcom, both of the home, and Cody Malcom, Natural Bridge, VA; two sisters, Patsy Puffenbarger, Churchville, VA, and Susie Seal, Deerfield, VA; four brothers, James Malcom, Cherry Grove, Albert "Shorty" Mlacom, Monterey, VA, and Bobby Malcom and Delbert Malcom, both of Spotswood, VA; a grandson; four nephews; and six nieces.

Pastor Gib Hale conducted the funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA. Burial was in Clover Creek Cemetery near McDowell, VA.

Genevive "Susan" Lough, 75, Camden, SC, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 in Camden.

Mrs. Lough was born Sept. 7, 1925, in Pendleton, OR, and was the daughter of the late Lawrence Eugene Hemphill and Emma Adele Couture Hemphill.

She was employed at Dupont plants in Handford, VA, Los Alamos, NM, and Waynesboro, VA. During the 1950s, she became secretary to the plant manager at Dupont in Camden SC. She then became a social worker for the Kershaw County School District. She was a valedictorian at Pendleton High School in Pendleton, OR. She was an avid birdwatcher with the yellow finches being her favorite.

Her husband, Harry Ashton Loug, died April 20, 1965.

Surviving are three sons, Lawrence Ren Lough, Columbia SC, Mark Hemphill Lough, Seattle, WA, and Stephen Harrison Lough, Camden, SC; a sister, Joann Bornstine, Seattle, WA; two brothers John Nelson and Oden Nelson, both of Seattle, WA; and five grandchildren.

The Rev. Walter Mullins conducted a graveside service at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.

Arrangements were by the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.

Paul Hammer Judy, 89, of Franklin, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA.

Born Feb. 13, 1911, at Franklin, he was the sun of the late Kenney H. Judy and Elizabeth F. Hammer Judy.

Mr. Judy enlisted in the Army Air Force in the rank of major in 1957. After his military career, he spent much of his time on the family farm south of Franklin.

His first wife, Evelyn Rosemary Wood Judy, preceded him in death on April 3, 1966.

He is survived by his second wife, Mary Harper Lambert Judy, whom he married Dec. 18, 1968.

Also surviving are threes sons, Steven C. Wood of Atlanta, GA, Kenneth P. Judy of Yorktown, VA, and James A. Judy of Winchester VA; three step-daughters, Wanda Walton and Lois August, both of Richmond, VA, and Doreen Judy of Franklin; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

He also was preceded in death by one daughter and three sisters.

A memorial service will be held today at 8 p.m. at the chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin, with Dr. Cecil Bradfield officiating.

Private interment will be held at the Arlington Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Franklin Rescue Squad.

Kenneth Foster Heavener, 64, of Cabins died Feb. 5, 2001, at Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins.

Born at Cabins on March 21, 1936, he was a son of the late Asa Mason and Ella Mae Moyers Heavener.

Mr. Heavener was a laborer for Space Pipeline Construction and drove for the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a Protestant.

Surviving are his wife, Alice "Katty" Vance; one son, Timmy Heavener of Cabins; four sisters Noralena Berg, Rosetta Berg, and Shirley Goldizen, all of Maysville, and Betty Dolly of Cabins; and six brothers, Willie Heavener and Paul Heavener, both of Dunn Loring, VA, Mason Heavener of Manassas, VA, Ernest Heavener of Keyser, Luther Heavener and Larry Heavener, both of Cabins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Olie Heavener, and two sisters, Alice M. Sites and Mernie Brown.

Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home, Petersburg, with the Rev. Steve Landis officiating. Burial will be at the Heavener Family Cemetery at Cabins.

The family received friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Allie "Marie" Halterman, 85, formerly of Monterey, VA, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at the Augusta Nrusing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville, VA.

Mrs. Halterman was born Sept. 14, 1915, in Highland County, VA, and was the daughter of the late William and Beryl Slaven White.

She was employed at Hanover Shoe Company in Franklin and the Aileen Company in Monterey, VA.

Her husband, Howard Lester Halterman, died March 31, 1998.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors include a son, William E. halterman, Staunton, VA; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Jerry Ginn conducted the graveside service Friday, February 2, at the Blue Grass Cemetery.

Obaugh Fuenral Home, McDowell, VA, was in charge of the arrangements.
