Johnnie Juno Huffman

Johnnie Juno Huffman, 80 of Mobile, AL,  and formerly of Columbus, OH, and Oengo, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at his home.

Mr. Huffman was born Jan. 15, 1928, in columbus , OH, and was the son of the late Rev. H.b. (Doc) and Vivian Huffman of Onego. 

He retired from the Mobile County School System after 35 years of service, first as a history teacher at Theodore High School and retiring as a guidance counselor at Vigor High School. He was a Korean War Era Veteran of the United States Air Force.  He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.

His wife, Emma L. Huffman of Mobile, AL, survives. 

Also surviving are four children, Tammy (Rick) Linaburg of Franklin, Tommie Divine of Houston, TX, John Eric (Tomeekca) Huffman and April Henson, both of Mobile, AL; 10 grandchildren, Tiffany, Brittany and Trey Linaburg, Bo and Brad Divine, Kayla and Brian Huffman, and Shelby, Hunter and Emmie Henson.

Funeral services were held at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Mobile, AL. burial was at meobile Memorial Gardens.  Memorial donations may be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church, 6905 Nan Gray Davis Rd., Theodore, AL 36582.

Marvin Kisamore

Marvin Kisamore, 84, of Petersburg and formerly of White Plains, MD, died Jan. 31, 2008, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Kisamore was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Pendleton County and was a son of the late Joel Kisamore and Clara Dolly Kisamore.

He was self-employed at Marvin Kisamore Excavating in White Plains, MD, and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Corners United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 78. He attended school in Petersburg.

His wife, Mae A. Simpson Kisamore, whom he married in 1949, survives.

Also surviving are  two sons, Michael Joel Kisamore of Indian Head, MD, and Marvin Charles Kisamore of LaPlata, MD; five sisters, Verde Bennett of Cabins, Velma Lyons of Petersburg, Otie Whitaker of Seattle, WA, Ethel Dickerson of Elberton, GA and Ester Vernon of Richmond, VA; a brother, Jonas Kisamore of Franklin; three grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter Charlotte Ann; one brother, Burl Kisamore; and one sister, Versie Carr.

Pastors Joseph Gerstell and Ray Barrow will conduct the funeral Monday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial was at Mount Hebron Cemetery with military services by VFW Post 6454 and JR ROTC. .

Memorial donations may be made to Corners United Methodist Church.

Ralph Rexrode

Ralph A. Rexrode, 81, of Franklin, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at his residence.

Born Aug. 2, 1926, he was the son of the late Pearl Rexrode and Iscie Lough Rexrode.

He was a farmer and attended Franklin High School. He was a member of Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren.

On Oct. 19, 1944, he married Neva Arvella Mitchell, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy Lee Salts and husband, Pat of Picayune, MS, and Diana Sue Pennybacker and husband Bill of Franklin; a son, Eldon Ralph Rexrode and wife, Sheila of Franklin; two sisters, Erma Mitchell of Franklin and Janet Fleisher and husband, Curtis of Washington Court House, OH; a brother, Herald Rexrode of Franklin; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the chapel of the Basagic funeral Home, Franklin, with Pastor Patrick Godfrey officiating. Burial will be in Kline Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Mountain Hospice, P.O. Box 416, Franklin WV or to a charity of choice.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m.to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Hettie Bennett

Hettie Bennett, 90, of Hunting Ground, Circleville, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at Nella's at Crystal Springs.

Ms. Bennett was born Feb. 20, 1917, at Hunting Ground and was the daughter of the late George A. Bennett and Sarah Lavada Sponaugle Bennett.

She was a homemaker and never married.

She was the last survivor of her immediate family.

Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

Pastor Calvin Bailey will conduct the funeral Monday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at the Bennett Cemetery at Hunting Ground.

Virginia V. Adamson

Virginia Vance Adamson, 91, of Onego died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mrs. Adamson was born May 22, 1916, in Roaring Creek and was a daughter of the late Arthur Vance and Nellie Phares Vance.

She was a retired elementary teacher in Pendleton County schools and was a member of Onego Church of the Brethren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore R. "Ted" Adamson, on Nov 7, 1998.

Survivors include a son, John A. Adamson of Onego; a sister, Ruth Temple of Keyser; four grandchildren, Shawn Adamson, Micahel Adamson, Tara Ours and Wayne Vance; and five great-grandchildren, Brittany Vance, Alley Vance, Brandon Ours, Hayley Ours and Christian Ours.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Jerelene Mongold.

Pastor Charles "Dusty" Twigg and Harvey J. Vance conducted the funeral Sunday at Onego Church of the Brethren. Burial was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, W.Va. and one hour before the service at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Onego Church of the Brethren.

Evelyn Knight, 83

Evelyn nelson Knight, 83, of Hampton, VA, passed away Jan. 8, 2008.

she was the daughter of the late Foster E. and Millie V. Nelson.

A native of Circleville, she had been a resident of Hampton, VA, since 1942. 

Her 35-year career as a civil servant ended in 1979 when she retired.  As a civil servant, she spent 20 years at Langley Air Force Base and 15 years at fort Monroe.  She was a member of Hampton Baptist church and a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge 1119.

Her husband of 60 years, Braxton Y. "Brack" Knight survives.

also surviving are a daughter, Donna K. Knight and Rodney thomas; two grandchildren, Roni K. Cutchin and husband Chuck, and Rodney L. Knight; three great-grandchildren, Ryan Cutchin, Kalob Knight and Aaliyah Knight; a sister, Hazel Teter and a "special daughter," Diane. 

She also was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Judy; and a brother, Foster E. Nelson, Jr.

funeral services were held Jan.11 at the Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, Hampton, VA.  Interment was in Hampton/Veterans Memorial Park.

Pauline E. Simmons

Pauline Catherine Eye Simmons, 89, a resident of Harrisonburg, VA, died on January 29, 2008, at Oak Lea Nursing Home.

She was born on Feb. 26, 1918, in Moyers and was the daughter of the late George A. and Hannah Shrader Eye.

Mrs. Simmons was a graduate of Chicago School of Nursing. In 1946, she moved from Moyers, to Harrisonburg, VA. She was a private duty nurse for Rockingham Memorial Hospital before retiring and was a member of Muhlenberg Lutheran Church.

In August 1946, she married Burton Simmons, who preceded her in death on November 28, 1992.

She is survived by a niece, Fannie Propst of Moyers and numerous cousins, great-nieces and great- nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving brother, Walter Eye, along with sisters Lona, Phoebe, Fannie, Dorothy, Stella, and brothers, Luther, Jesse, and Robert.

A funeral service was held Saturday at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church with Pastor Joe Vought officiating.  Burial was in St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Moyers.
