Elsie Sponaugle

Elsie Hilda Sponaugle, 85, of Franklin and formerly of Circleville, died Jan. 24, 2004, at Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin.

She was born Oct. 8, 1918, at Davis, the daughter of the late Orie Olin Hinkle and Ella Belinda Judy Hinkle.  

She graduated from Davis High School. She was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was a member of the Circleville United Methodist Church.  

On Dec. 9, 1939, she married E. Lee Sponaugle, who survives. 

Also surviving are two daughters, Elsie L. Bowers and her husband John F. of Franklin, Sharon Leatherman and her husband, E.T. "Tom" of Williamsport, MD; a son, Gary E. Sponaugle, and his wife Linda of Martinsburg; two sisters, Reba Guilliams of Washington, DC and Geraldine Flowers of San Bernardino, CA; a brother Roy O. Hinkle of Oakland, MD; seven grandchildren Sheri Coleman, Melissa Bader, Amy Houska, Jennifer Parsons, Greg Bowers, Clark Bowers and Bradley Sponaugle; ten great-grandchildren; Sarah, David, Ashlee and Eric Bowers, Bailey and Jonathon Coleman, Hannah and Michelle Bader, Emily and Alyson Houska and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Hinkle and three sisters Velma Snyder, Helen Roth and Ruth Barron. 

The Rev. Stanley Kile conducted the funeral at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial will be at the Davis Memorial Cemetery, Davis.

Patti J. Stuler, 49

Patti J. STuler, 49, of Washington, PA, died unexpectedly at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2004, in the emergency room at Washington Hospital.  

She was born March 14, 1954, in Petersburg, a daughter of the late O. Bard and Mabel Lou Nelson Judy. 

Mrs. Stuler was a 1972 graduate of Washington High School and a 1976 graduate of West Liberty State college with a degree in education.

She was a third-grade teacher at Trinity North Elementary School for the past 15 years.  She served on the school's curriculum committee and was involved with its planning committee. 

Mrs. Stuler loved to travel and especially enjoyed going to Lake Tahoe, NV, and Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  SHe also had visited nearly all oft he US national parks. 

On August 8, 1948, in Lake Tahoe, NV, she married Larry L. Stuler, who survives.  

Also surviving are two sisters, Nancy Simmons of Franklin, and Peggy Cribbs of Richmond, VA; two brothers, John B. Judy of Richmond, VA, and Steven Judy of Washington, PA; and many nieces and nephews. 

Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday in Hummell and Barnhill Memorial Chapel, Washington, PA, with the Rev. Floyd C. Marasco officiating.  Burial followed in Washington Cemetery.

Roy L. Holloway, 71

Roy L. Holloway, 71, of Franklin,died Friday, Jan.23, 2004, at Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg. 

Mr. Holloway was born Apirl 8, 1932, in Upper Tract and was the son of the late Kee Holloway and May Hedrick Holloway. 

he was employed at New Frontier Restaurant, Rockingham Poultry and was a rock crusher in Tennessee.  He was a member of the Franklin Church of Christ. 

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Vance Holloway, whom he married July 16, 1982; an adopted stepdaughter, Margie Hoffman of Tennessee; a sister, Bessie Kimble of Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, two brothers, Robert Holloway of Upper Tract and Omer Holloway of Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin; seven adopted grandchildren, Veronica Spencer Miller, Kenneth, Jr., Miller, Eric Miller, Joe Miller, Tiffany Hoffman, Michael Hoffman and Elizabeth Hoffman; two adopted great-grandchildren; and anumber of nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. 

Kenneth Anderson conducted the funeral 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Franklin Church of Christ.  Burial was at the Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract.

Raymond B. Harr, 83 

Raymond Butler “Buck” Harr, 83, of Clay Street, Moorefield, died Jan. 24, 2004, at his residence.

Mr. Harr was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Canaan Valley, he was a son of the late Frank and Caroline Kesner Harr. 

He was a veteran of the  World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps having served in India and traveled around the world.  He was employed by the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources as a fire ranger in Hardy and Grant counties for over 29 years.

he is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lucille Hedrick Harr; three sons, Raymond “Rockie” Harr of Franklin, William Harr, of Forrest, VA and Jeff  Harr, of West Chesterfield, NH; two sisters, Virginia Smith of Columbus, OH, and Agnes Carr of Belington; and a number of  nieces and nephews.

The Rev. doyle Patch conducted the funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hinkle Funeral home in Davis.  Burial followed at Buena Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Troy Pennington, 71

Troy Roswell Penington, 71, of 10180 Rowley Pike, Hinton, VA, died Tuesday, Jan.20, 2004, at the emergency room at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. Pennington was born Friday, Sept. 9, 1932, in Onego and was a son of the late Zenie Mae Harper. 

He attended Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church and was a self-employed logger.  He was a former member of the country music group The Rawley Ramblers.  

On Oct. 29, 1950, he married Lucille (Moyers) Pennington, who survives.

He is also survived by a son, Danny Pennington of Harrisonburg, VA; four daughters, JoAnn Payne of Broadway, VA, Doris Kile of Hinton, VA, Debbie Sievers of Singers Glen, VA, and Karen Good of Dayton, VA; a sister, Evelyn Shifflett of Hinton, VA; two brothers, Paul Pennington of Harrisonburg, VA, and Norman Pennington of Dayton, VA; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. 

Pastor Wendell L. "Sonny" Henckel conducted a graveside service 2 p.m. Friday at Rawley Springs Mennonite Church Cemetery.
