Edna Ruth Ratlief

Edna Ruth Ratlief, 91, of Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin and formerly of Fort Seybert, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at the nursing home, where she had lived for the past four years. 

Mrs. Ratlief was born Dec. 6, 1911, in Fort Seybert and was a daughter of the late Benjamin Dove and Rebecca Zirk Dove. 

She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Brethren. 

Her husband, Walter Ratlief, preceded her in death Jan. 28, 1978. 

She is survived by four sons, Edgar Ratlief of Fort Seybert, Roy Ratlief of Del Ray Beach, BL, and John Ratlief and David Ratlief, both of Baltimore, MD: a sister, Mable Mowery of Fredericksburg, PA, 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. 

A daughter, Violet Vandevender, preceded her in death. 

The Rev. Eugene Shaver conducted the funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday t the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin. 

Holly Worth Sites, 72

Holly Worth Sites, age 72 years, a former resident of Elkins, and more recently a resident of the Barbour county Good Samaritan Center at Belington, departed this life early Sunday morning , January 19, 2003, at the nursing home.  HE had been in declining health for the past six years. 

Mr. Sites was born July 14, 1930, at the Mouth of Seneca, a son of the late Cletus Sites and Ella Painter Sites.  

He was married to the former Maxine C. Harman, who survives.  

Also surviving are two daughter, Wilma L. Burdette and husband, John, Beverly and Brenda S. Long and husband, Robert, Junior; one son, Holly W. Sites, Jr., Seneca Rocks; two brothers, Harlan Sites, Belington and Bill Sites, Cherry Grove; two sisters, Pauline Hedrick and husband, Joe, Riverton and JoAnn Sites, Petersburg; four grandchildren, Misty Petrice, Heather Petrice, Sterling McLean, Jr. and Sterling McLean, III, and four great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by one brother, Gene Sites; and one sister, Ruth Hedrick. 

Mr. Sites attended the schools of Circleville, was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a graduate of Davis and Elkins college.  He was a former school teacher having taught at Randolph and Upshur counties.  He was a real estate agent and was a retired insurance agent, having worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.  He had served as the pastor of the church of the Brethren at Hambleton. 

Final rites were conducted at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home chapel in Elkins Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Dusty Twigg officiating.  Interment followed at the Harman-Bland cemetery at Onego, where members of the Pendleton county Combined Veterans Home Guard conducted military rites.

Kertie Harper

Kertie Harper, 101, of Seneca Rocks, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA. 

Ms. Harper was born Oct. 7, 1901, in Macksville and was a daughter of the late Fred Harper and Jennie Harman Harper.  She was a homemaker and a cook at lumber camps.  She was a Protestant. 

She is survived  by a daughter, Frances Wimer of Cherry Grove; three sons, Harman Kisamore and Freddie E. Kisamore, both of Seneca Rocks, and Ival P. Kisamore of Charleston; a sister, Rub Vance of Upper Tract; a brother, Mason Harper of Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and 38 great-great-grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one son, Edwin Kisamore; four brothers, Brose Harper, Walter Harper, Burrell Harper and Johnny Harper; and three sisters, Margie Huffman, Mammie Warner and Beulah Watts. 

The Rev. Barbara Rexroad conducted the funeral 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at the North Fork Memorial Cemetery. 

Mary Belle Dove, 71

Mary Belle Dove, 71, of Surfside, SC, passed away January 15, 203, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

She was born March 26, 1931, at Fort Seybert, daughter of the late Noah M. and Tressie Boggs Rexrode.  

She was the former director of Valley Mental Health in Morgantown, where she was active in Meals on Wheels.  She was the current director of South Strand Helping Hand in Surfside Beach, and was a member of  Surfside Presbyterian Church. 

She is survived by her husband, James L. Dove, a son, James B. Dove, Las Vegas, NV; three daughters, Brenda Dove Reed, Little River, SC, Patricia Dove, San Francisco, CA, and Holly Dove Curry, London, KY; a granddaughter, Wendy Dove, and three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Bethany and Cameron; also by two brothers, Marvin B. Rexrode, Fort Seybert, and Norman L. Rexrode, Summersville. 

She was predeceased by one brother, Frederick Rexrode. 

A memorial service was held on January 18, 2003, at Surfside Presbyterian Church.
