Frances Varner Casto

Frances Varner Casto, 29, of Brandywine, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA.

Mrs. Casto was born March 13, 1974, in Harrisonburg, VA, and was a daughter of Stephen Varner and Berniece Grunawalt Varner of Brandywine. 

She was a homemaker.  She graduated from Franklin High School in 1994 and attended Living Faith Church. 

On March 5, 1999, she married Jeffrey Casto, who survives.  

In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by two daughters, Chelsey Varner and Lindsey Casto, both of Brandywine; a son, Joel Casto, Brandywine; two sisters, Julie Cook and Tammie Hedrick, both of Brandywine; and her maternal grandparents, Dickie Grunawalt of Norfolk, VA and Mayselle Grunawalt of Bridgewater, VA. 

Pastor Steve Teter and Pastor Intern Jay Linaburg conducted the funeral 1 p.m. Wednesday at Living Faith Church in Franklin.  Burial was at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine.

Norma J. Colaw

Norma J. Colaw, 78, of Cherry Grove, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

She was born April 30, 1925, at Circleville, the daughter of the late Robert Boyd Johnston and Kate Arbogast Johnston.

She graduated from Circleville High School in 1944.  She was employed by Harry Wolfe (now Allegany Wood). She also worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways in the Franklin office, the U.S. Postal Service in Washington, DC, and had co-owned and operated the C&H Cash Store in Cherry Grove.  She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and Circleville Presbyterian Church.

On June 3, 1960, she married Wayne E. Colaw, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey Kirby of Fayetteville, NC, and Mark Colaw and his wife, Julie of Petersburg; two daughters, Sara Harper and her husband,Chip of Franklin and Laura Menas and her husband Rodney of Keedysville, MD; two stepdaughters, Margaret Stinard of Canton, OH, and Beverly Kile and her husband, Rick of Upper Tract; one stepson, Larry Colaw and his wife Vickie of Cherry Grove; one sister, June Hinkle of North Huntingdon, PA; 12 grandchildren, Terry Sinard, Amy Yokum, Jeremy Colaw, Ricky Kile, Jennifer Kirby, Annette Kirby, Emilee Colaw, Ryan Colaw, Brian Harper, Cyrena Harper, Kate Menas and Cole Menas; and seven great-grandchildren, Reyenne Colaw, Noah Yokum, Bailee Yokum, Rachel Stinard, Anthony Stinard, Ethan Kile and Skyler Stinard.  .

She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Dr. Cecil D. Bradfield and the Rev. Stanley Kile conducted the funeral 2 p.m. Friday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at the blue Grass Cemetery.  

Memorial donations may be made to the Circleville Volunteer Fire Department or the North Fork Rescue Squad. 

Gary Lee Rosencrance

Gary Lee Rosencrance, 70, a resident of East Dailey, departed this life Sunday afternoon, Jan. 18, 2004, at the Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins.  He had been in declining health, however, death was sudden and unexpected.

He was born Thursday, Dec. 21, 1933, at Becky’s Creek, the son of the late Cecil Robert Rosencrance and Ethel Kelly Rosencrance.

He was twice married. First, on Jan. 27, 1959, he was formerly married to the former Catherine L. Pritt. Second, on Oct. 25, 1991, at Harrisonburg, VA, he was married to the former Faye Lucille Warner, who preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 2003.

Surviving are two sons, Richard Rosencrance and wife, Pam, of East Dailey and Tim Rosencrance of Snowshoe; one daughter, Susan Rosencrance of East Dailey; one stepson, Roger Collett and wife, LeAnn, of Lexington, NC; two stepdaughters, Terry Thornhill and husband, Dan, of East Dailey, and Tammy Armentrout and husband, Dave, of Whitmer; two brothers, Hayward Keith Rosencrance and wife, Lottie, of Dailey, and Danny Ray Rosencrance of Cheverly, MD; one sister, Betty Ann Rodgers of Preston, MD; seven grandchildren, Richie Rosencrance, Erica and Brent Gladwell, Tricia and Heather Rosencrance, Alyciann Campbell and Kody M. Rosencrance; seven step-grandchildren, Lindsay, Andrea and Joe Thornhill, Alex Armentrout, Jake Collett, Michael Bishop, Tara L. Dalton and husband, David; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kaitlin and Dillon Bishop; and several nieces and nephews.

He attended Homestead School and Tygarts Valley High School and graduated from Blainesburg High School at Blainesburg, MD, had worked for the Huttonsville Correctional Center, the Western Maryland Railroad and Concast Metal Products Co., and retired in 1985.
He was an avid outdoorsman, gardener and had a great love for flowers.

Final rites were conducted at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home Chapel, Elkins, Wednesday, with the Rev. Jack Howell officiating. Interment followed at the Bell Cemetery at Becky’s Creek. 

Edrie McDonald

Edrie Madge Lambert McDonald, 95, of Nella's Nursing Home in Crystal Springs and formerly of Riverton, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at the nursing home.

Mrs. McDonald was born Oct. 8, 1908, in Harman, and was a daughter of the late Isom Harper Lambert and Mary Alice Painter Lambert.

She was a homemaker and am ember of North Fork Apostolic church. 

Her husband, Theodore Wade McDonald, preceded her in death Nov. 27, 2003.

She is survived by one daughter, Nellie Ruth Lambert of Whitmer; two sisters, Eula Calhoun of Glen Burnie, MD, and Edith Nelson of Palm Bay, FL; a brother Jack  Lambert of Springfield, OH; two granddaughters, Pamela Mullennex of Whitmer and Cindy Ranson of Waldorf, MD; and two great-grandsons, Asa Mullennex and Shane Ranson and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Joy Lee McDonald Thompson; six brothers and five sisters, Marvin Painter, Mark Lambert, Glenn Lambert, Robert Lambert, Don Lambert and Ford Lambert, and five sisters, Lizzie Bible, Norah Parker, May Day, Gladys Hedrick and infant Mable Lambert.

Brother Ronnie Malone conducted the funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at North Fork apostolic Church in Riverton.  Burial was at the North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

Memorial donations may be made to the North Fork Apostolic Church. 

Arrangements were under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.
