Jason Scott Simmons, 21, of Franklin, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown due to injuries while hiking during a camping outing in Preston County.

Mr. Simmons was born Sept. 2, 1985, in Harrisonburg, VA, and was a son of David P. Simmons and Patty Dahmer Simmons of Franklin.

He graduated from Pendleton County High School in 2004 and was a junior at West Virginia University (WVU), where he was a business and finance major. He was a member of the WVU Student Grotto Caving Club and the Pendleton County Tactical Skills Team. He was also a member of the Pendleton County Rescue Squad, Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department and the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Brian David Simmons of Franklin: and his grandmother, Hazel L. Ratliff Simmons of Franklin.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, the late Virgil Simmons and the late Joe and Velma Hedrick Dahmer. 

The Revs. Carl Tribett and Sam Harper will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. today at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.

Memorial donations may be made to any volunteer fire, rescue or ambulance company.

The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Richard Glenn Harman, 73, of Dorcas, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Harman was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Kline and was a son of the late Curtis T. and Violet Loretta Kimble Harman.

He was a farmer most of his life and was a bus driver for the Grant County Board of Education for over 25 years. He also worked for the Trenton Motor Company of Petersburg, W.Va. He was a member of Hedrick Chapel United Methodist Church and the Petersburg Lodge I.O.O.F. 408.

Survivors include three sons, Richard Wayne Harman of Dorcas, Paul William Harman of Moorefield and Roger C. Harman of Petersburg; two daughters, Linda Leatherman of Martin and Wanda Montgomery of Cabins; three sisters, Doris Jean Parsons and JoAnn Simmons, both of Petersburg, and Donna Fay Snider of Martinsburg; a brother, Curtis "Buster" Harman of Dorcas; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren.

The Revs. William R. Brown and Richard L. Longbon conducted the funeral Monday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial will be at Kline Cemetery in Kline.

Memorial donations may be made to Hedrick Chapel United Methodist Church, the Dorcas Ruritan Club or the Grant Memorial Hospital Chapel Fund.

Mary Ann May Warner, 75, of Hagerstown, MD, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, MD.

Mrs. Warner was born Jan. 3, 1932, in Macksville and was a daughter of the late Homer A. May and Arvella Harper May.

Sheattended elementary school in Riverton and graduated from Fort Ashby High School in 1950. She retired after 30 years of employment from Washington County-Maryland Schools, where she was secretary to the principal at Fountain Rock Elementary School.

Her husband, Charles Jones Warner, preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Ann Sarno of Hagerstown, Md.; a son, Charles Jones "C.J." Warner Jr. of Waynesboro, Pa.; a sister, Betty Jo Caliguire of Riverton, W.Va., and six grandchildren.

Bobby G. Eye

Bobby Gene Eye, age 72, of Harrisonburg, VA, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA.

He was born March 7, 1934, in Franklin and was the son of the late Emery Raymond Eye and Dorothy Lillian (Propst) Eye Hinerman.

Mr. Eye served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the 101^st Airborne Division. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 24, Harrisonburg, VA. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Harrisonburg, VA.

His wife Judy (Hinkle) Eye survives. 

Also surviving are one son, Bobby Eye II of Harrisonburg, VA; one daughter, Gena Wheeler and husband, Randy of Bridgewater, VA; five granddaughters, Morgan Eye, Rachel Eye, Brehanna Wheeler, Hannah Eye and Sydney Eye, all of Bridgewater, VA; two sisters, Charlotte Hartman of Springville, UT, Cathy E. Alt of Petersburg, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Malinda K. Eye, one granddaughter, Jade Elizabeth Wheeler, and one sister, Roberta Ruth (Eye) Nesselrodt.

The funeral service was held Friday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Elder David Hartman officiating. Interment will be at South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, with a military graveside service by VFW Post 6454 and JROTC of Petersburg.

Memorials may be made to charity of choice.

Cecil Waybright

Cecil Waybright, 76, of Franklin, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin.

Mr. Waybright was born Oct. 18, 1930, in Cherry Grove and was the son of the late Ted Waybright and Florence Weese Waybright.

He was a logger and timberman and had served in the U.S. Army.

He never married. 

Surviving are four sisters, Leah Murphy and Elma Grace May, both of Hampton, Thelma Fellows of Homer, NY, and Marie Reavis of Newport News, VA.

Pastor Carl Tribett conducted the graveside funeral Saturday in the Waybright Family Cemetery in Cherry Grove.  Military graveside services were conducted by members of thePEndelton County Veterans Honor Guard.

Vernon A. Alt

Vernon A. Alt, 82, of Dorcas, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.

Mr. Alt was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Branch (now Smoke Hole) and was a son of the late George E. Alt and Emma F. Shreve Alt.

He worked in sawmills and on the pipeline until 1952. He worked for GATX for 32 years and during that time, he was a boiler maker and a member of the Brotherhood Union of Boiler Makers. He retired in 1984 and returned to Petersburg. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army at Iwo Jima, Saipan, and Okinawa. He was a member of Petersburg American Legion Post No.68.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ada Cosner Alt.

His second wife, Linda Thyng Alt, whom he married June 23, 1978, survives.  

Also surviving are two daughters, Linda J. Mullins and Margaret Holmes, both of Elkton, MD; three sons, Michael Lyons of Maysville, Ed Alt of Valley Lee, MD, and Robert J. Alt of Elkton, MD; one half brother, Junior P. Alt of Poultney, VT; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter and a special sister-in-law, Imogene Alt of Catonsville, MD. 

He was also preceded in death by four brothers. .

Pastor Seth Vance conducted the funeral Monday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract with military graveside services by members of the Pendleton County Honor Guard.
