Shirley Cecelia Haddaway Weber, 72, of Franklin died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at her home.

Mrs. Weber was born May 3, 1935, in Tilghman Island, MD, and was a daughter of the late John Alexander Haddaway and Nannie Belle Newnam Haddaway.

She was a homemaker and attended St. Michaels High School in St. Michaels, MD. She was a Baptist.

Her husband, Kenneth Charles Weber, preceded her in death April 27, 2007.

Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Rodgers and husband, Forest Gary "Fred" Rodgers, Jr., of Franklin, and Linda King and husband, Robert C. "Robbie" King of Pittsburgh, PA; a son, William James "Jimmy" Haddaway of Tilghman Island, MD; five sisters, Florence Murphy, Nannette Ridenour and Sallie Bowman, all of Tilghman Island, MD, Suzanne Jones of Salisbury, MD, and Christine Schutt of Fort Lauderdale, FL; a brother, John Alexander Haddaway Jr. of Tilghman Island, MD; five grandchildren, Samuel Charles Rodgers, Amber FAith Rodgers, Sara King, Joselyn King Ward and Amanda King; and one great-grandchild, Nathan James Ward.

She was also preceded in death by one step-son, Kenneth Charles Ward; and one brother, George B. Haddaway. 

The Rev. Danny Williams Sr. will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. today at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial will be at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Marvin Rexrode, 82

Marvin B. Rexrode, 82, of Fort Seybert died Tuesday morning, Jan 8, 2008, at his home. 

Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time and are under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.  

Leo Byrd Ruddle, 82

Leo Byrd Ruddle, 82, of Palmyra, PA, died peacefully at his home on Dec. 10, 2007.

Born April 24, 1925, in South Annville Township, PA, he was the son of the late Ruben Dee Ruddle and Lillian Simmons Ruddle.  

Mr. Ruddle was a World War II Navy veteran, a graduate of Hershey High School Class of 1943, where he studied carpentry in the vocational section.  He retired as a construction superintendent from the H.B. Alexander Construction Company. 

His wife of 60 years, Lydia Jane Kemp Ruddle, survives. 

Also surviving are a daughter, Donna Ruddle Ekstrom of Middletown, PA; and a son, Richard Ruddle of Haymarket, VA; five brothers, Harold, Norman, Larry, Robert and Rodney Ruddle; and five sisters, Lillian Kemp, Ehtel Blevens, Elaine Stotz, Sarah Buatti and Linda Zerbe.

He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, the late Isaac Newton Ruddle and Susan Dahmer Ruddle of Deer Run and the late W. Pinkney Simmons and Luna Byrd Simmons of Ruddle; two brothers, Wayne and Bruce Ruddle; and two sisters, Nellie Kaley and Ruby Foltz. 

Interment was in the Hershey, PA, cemetery.    

Lyle G. Steach, 80

Lyle Gordon Steach. 80, of Moorefield died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at the Pendleton County Nursing Home in Franklin.  

Mr. Steach was born Feb. 9, 1927, in Sweetwater, TX, and was the son of the late Claude and Alma Ley Steach. 

He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard with 27 years of service and retired from the Moorefield Police department, where he served as chief. 

His wife, Laura Grace Zirk Steach, preceded him in death in April 2006.

Surviving are two sons, Kevin Steach of Morgantown and William Steach of Albany, OR; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  

A private graveside service at St. Luke's Cemetery, River Road, Romney, will be held at a later date.  AT his request, he was cremated.

Arrangements are by Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield.

Eugene Harper 

Eugene Harper, 79, of Sugar Grove died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA. 

Mr. Harper was born June 16, 1928, in Moyers and was the son of the late Mary Jane PRopst Harper and John L. Harper.  

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War.  In Feb. 1956, he and his father opened Harper's  Store, which he continued to operate until his death.  He also served as Moyers Postmaster for 35 years, retiring in 1989.  He was a member of Sandy Ridge Church of the Brethren.  

On Oct. 17, 1970, he married Margaret Jones Harper, who survives. 

Also surviving are two brothers, LeRoy Harper of Salisbury, MD, and Johnny Carroll "J.C." Harper of Sugar Grove.

He also was preceded in death by one sister. 

The Revs. Shyrl Smith and Jerry Smith conducted the funeral Saturday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin.  Burial was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.  

James E. Saville, 98

James Edward Saville, 98, formerly a 49-year resident of Charles Town, died Friday, Jan . 4, 2008, in Westminster-Canterbury, Winchester, VA, where he had lived since May of 2003. 

Mr. Saville was born Dec. 4, 1909, in Levels in Hampshire County, the son of John Thomas and Ethel Graqce (Heiskell) Saville. 

He was an accomplished educator and agricultural expert .  He earned his bachelor's degree in agriculture and his master's in animal nutrition from West Virginia University and completed graduate work at Cornell University.  After working as an elementary principal and a science, vocational, and agriculture teacher in Hampshire County, he became a West Virginia extension agent in Randolph and Pendleton counties.  Later, he served as a poultry specialist in Morgantown.  He retired in 1975 after 27 years as Jefferson County's WVU agricultural agent. 

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town, where he served as chairman of the administrative board and on the board of trustees.  He was a member of the Methodist Men Builders Class.  He also was a member of the Charles Town Kiwanis Club, the Jefferson County Farm Bureau, the West Virginia 4-H All Stars and the General Adam Stephens chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.  He was a charter member of the South Jefferson Ruritan Club and had served as director of the Jefferson County Fair Association.  He was a past president of the 4-H Foundation and a life member of the National County Agents Association.  He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Jefferson County Food Bank.  

He was married for 67 years to Louise Pugh Saville, who preceded him in death on Aug. 28, 2004. 

Surviving are his son, James Edward Saville, Jr., of Denton, TX; three daughters, Margaret Rose of Fredericksburg, VA, and Elizabeth Burns and Mary Louise de Sarran, both of Bowie, MD; a half-sister, Helen Saville Messick of Fort Ashby; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A sister, Ethel Saville Cook, also preceded him in death.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town, with the REv. Richard Kroll officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the service.

Larry Alan Kisamore, 51, of Onego died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born Aug. 23, 1956, Petersburg, he was a son of Reva Ann Raines Kisamore of Riverton and the late William Carl Kisamore.

Mr. Kisamore was a graduate of Circleville High School in 1974.  

On Dec. 12, 1980, he married Peggy Lyn Hall Kisamore, who survives. 

Also surviving are two daughters, Melissa Dee Mongold and Loretha Ann Stump, both of Cabins; two sons, Larry Shane Kisamore of Onego and Jeremy Alan Kisamore of Riverton; one brother, Timothy Kisamore of Onego; and eight grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by one brohter, William Carl Kisamore, Jr. 

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home. Petersburg.  Burial will be at U.G. Mallow Cemetery in Riverton.

Valda Lee Witt, 78

Valda Lee Witt, 78, of Fairmont died early Dec. 30, 2007, in Fairmont General Hospital, Fairmont. 

Born Jan. 18, 1929, in Friends Run, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Simmons Warner.

Mrs. Witt was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Fairmont.  She was a graduate of Franklin High School and received her associate's degree in accounting from West Virginia Business College.  She was employed as an accountant at United Woolen Company in Fairmont.  She later worked for W.T. Grant Department Store, Hartley's Department Store and Stone and Thomas.  She very much enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren and great-grandson.  

Her husband, James P. Witt, survives.  

Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Michael Hess of Greensburg, PA; three grandchildren, Christopher and wife, Marci Hess of Pittsburgh, PA, Heather and husband, David Bonstein of Baltimore, MD, and Matthew Hess of Greensburg, PA; one great-grandson, Andrew Hess of Pittsburgh, PA, one brother, Johnie and wife, Theda Warner of Fairmont; and one sister, Teretha and husband, Alston Thompson of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.  

Funeral services were held Jan. 3 at the Ford Funeral Home, Fairmont, with Rev. Donal Jack Squires officiating.  Burial followed in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Morgantown.

Hancel Lambert Sr.

Hancel Daniel Lambert Sr., 96, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at his home in Mount Crawford, VA. 

He was born Sept. 10, 1911, in Pendleton County and was the son of the late George "Ira" and Susan "Sudie" Arbogast Lambert. 

Mr. Lambert was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren, where he operated as trustee and later honorary trustee at the church. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps where he contributed to the construction of the Skyline Drive and later served in the United States Marine Corps. He was also a past president of Lambert Hilltop Park in Cherry Grove and thoroughly enjoyed traveling for many years with his wife. He was a self-employed general contractor that specialized in finished carpentry and masonry.

On June 7, 1937, he married Clara Marie Lambert, who preceded him in death on June 13, 1990. 

Survivors include one son, Hancel "Danny" Lambert Jr. and wife, Jo Ann of Mount Crawford, VA; two daughters, Charlotte M. Campbell and husband, Lurty of Mount Crawford, VA, and Juanita G. Campbell and husband, Everett of Harrisonburg, VA; one brother, Olin I. "Billy" Lambert of Austin, TX; one sister, Erma Nuckols of Mount Crawford, VA; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Arvil L. Lambert.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Kyger Harrisonburg Funeral Home Chapel, Harrisonburg, VA, with Pastor Henry Elsea officiating. Entombment followed at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Leroy Victor Strawderman, 76, of Harrisonburg, Va., died suddenly Jan. 7, 2008.

Mr. Strawderman was born on April 2, 1931, in Hardy County, W.Va., and was the son of the late Charles Ray and Goldie Halterman Strawderman.

Mr. Strawderman worked for Coffman Farms for 50 years. He was currently employed for United States Forestry Service. Mr. Strawderman was a member of the Mount Zion Church of the Brethren.

On Dec. 25, 1954, he married the former Genevieve Scott, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Andrea Sue Holley and husband, Charlie Sugar Grove, Teresa Ann Cortes and husband, Salvador of Bridgewater, VA; two sons, Gerald Allen Strawderman and wife, Sandra, Linville, VA, Kevin Ray Stawderman and wife, Danell, Singers Glen, VA; one brother, Stacy Strawderman and wife, Dorothy, of Mathias; eight grandchildren, April Lynn Crider and husband, Danny, Brandy Sue Caplinger and husband, Michael, Hermelinda Renee Cortes, Carenda Lee Strawderman, Stephanie Marie Cortes, Blair Allen Strawderman, Jessica Rae Cortes, Scott Remington Strawderman; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Clarke Moyers and Matthew Scott Caplinger.

He was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Leroy Strawderman, and a brother, Freeman Strawderman.

Pastor Dan King will conduct a funeral today at 11 a.m. at the Mount Zion Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow at Singers Glen Cemetery.

Jacob Cenior Sponaugle, 84, of Mount Crawford, VA, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at Catawba Hospital near Roanoke, VA.

Mr. Sponaugle was born April 20, 1923, in Hunting Ground and was a son of the late Letcher and Leona Arbogast Sponaugle.

He moved to the Shenandoah Valley from the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1985. He worked in the warehouse of W.R. Grace Chemical Company in Curtis Bay, MD, before retiring. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed gardening and doing repair work after retiring. He was a member of the Bible Holiness Church in Elkton.

On July 8, 1949, he married Emma Lee Wilson, who survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Roger Sponaugle of Fishersville, VA, and Stephen Sponaugle of Maurertown, VA; a daughter, Donna Youngblood of Glen Burnie, MD; two brothers, Dwight Sponaugle of Westminster, MD, and Anthony Sponaugle of Hunting Ground; five sisters, Merlie Long of Hinton, VA, Rosie Sponaugle of Harrisonburg, VA, Rhea Nelson of Philadelphia, PA, Loretta Harman of Morgantown and Grethel Bennett of Franklin; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Gary Edenfield will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. today at the Bible Holiness Church in Elkton. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg, VA.
