She was born Oct. 24, 1935, in Smith Creek  and was a daughter of the late Oscar Lambert and Ethel Moyers Lambert.

She was a homemaker and never married.  She was a member of Smith Creek Church of the Brethren.

Surviving are three sisters, June L. Ord of Franklin, Betty Mongold of Bridgewater, VA, and Faye Downey of Craigsville, VA; six brothers, Otha Lambert of Waynesboro, VA, Warnie Lambert of Dayton, VA, Ona "Chuck" Lambert of Mt. Sidney, VA, Jack Lambert of Franklin, Charles Lambert of Waynesboro, VA,  and Roger Stuckey of Archbold, OH; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Smith Chreek Church of the Brethren with Pastor Daryl Ritchie officiating. Burial was at the Moyers Family Cemetery at Franklin by the Kimble Funeral HOme, Frnaklin.

She was originally from the Morgantown area and was a longtime resident of the South Fork area. She was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church and was active in the community. She was a member of the Peru Community Center and participated in many fund raising and community activities. She was also active in crafts and was an avid weaver and demonstrated historic weaving techniques at various state and local venues.

Mrs. Dasher served three terms as a member of the Silver Haired Legislature. She did volunteer work at Pendleton Nursing Home before becoming a resident.

In 1954, she married Joseph G. Dasher, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Dr. O. James Gibson of Claremont, CA; a step-son, Donald Dasher of Moorefield and a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was the last survivor of her immediate family.

The funeral was held Dec. 22 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Peru.

Elmore Funeral Home in Moorefield was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Ms. Thompson was born Oct. 3, 1920, in Onego and was a daughter of the late Amby Thompson and Delphia Payne Thompson.

She was a homemaker and attended Brushy Run School.

She is survived by a sister, Peachie Thompson of Riverton, with whom she lived for 40 years; two brothers, Jerlo Thompson of Seneca Rocks, and Achie Thompson of Alpena; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Trumie Thompson, Dewey Thompson and Hughie Thompson; and two sisters, Lillie Elza and Ressie Biller.  

The Rev. Earl Bible conducted the funeral Dec. 27, 2006, at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

Herbert J. Bennett

Herbert J. Bennett, 78, of Harman, died Dec. 24, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.

He was born Nov. 7, 1928, at Job, a son of the late Harry Bennett and Anna Teter Bennett.

On May 27, 1950, at Baltimore, MD, he was married to Helen Lee Roy Bennett, who survives at Harman.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator and member of Operating Engineers Local 37 of Baltimore, MD, where he lived from 1950 to 1978 and then lived in Petersburg from 1978 to 1982. He suffered a broken neck as a result of a diving accident is his swimming pool in Baltimore, MD, in 1971. He and his wife, Helen, owned and operated Bennett’s Store and Deli in Petersburg and later the Gateway Restaurant in Riverton. He was a Methodist by faith.

Surviving are three sons, Jack Bennett and wife, Ann of Seneca Rocks, Herbert “Chuck” Bennett and wife, Vicky of Harman and Mark Bennett of Burlington; three grandchildren, Danica Cooper and husband, Tommy of Harman, Kelly Bennett and Jared Bennett and wife, Susan, all of Elkins; and one great-granddaughter, Alexis Cooper of Harman.

Also preceding him in death was one brother, Harold “Rocky” Bennett.

At Mr. Bennett’s request, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin is in charge of the arrangements. 

She was born Nov. 6, 1920, in Fort Seybert and was the daughter of the late Fred Teter and Cleda Puffenbarger Teter.

A 1938 graduate of Franklin High School, she attended Shenandoah Conservatory of Music at Dayton, VA, and was issued a Provisional Teaching Certificate. Her teaching career began at Oak Flat School in 1939-40; the remainder of her teaching career was at Brandywine Elementary.  She continued to raise her family and work on her degree. She received her A.B. degree from Madison College in 1967. Mrs. Adamson was a dedicated teacher and was loved by her students.  Many former students fondy recall the happy times they spent in her classroom.  She retired in 1980 after 25 years in the classroom.  Four-H played an important role in her life.  She enthusiastically assisted the children with their projects and led games at meetings and parties.  She was an active member  in both the Fort Seybert Extension Homemaker’s Club and the Fairview-Bethel Methodist Church. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed traveling, playing the piano and singing.  For several years, she sang in a quartet on the weekly radio program in Harrisonburg, VA, called the Valley Family Hymn Sing. 

On Jan. 31, 1940, she married Olin C. Adamson, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Jane Ann Conrad of Fort Seybert; three sons, Robert O. "Bob" Adamson  and Benjamin L. "Ben" Adamson, both of Fort Seybert and William H. "Bill" Adamson of Naporville, IL; two brothers, Eston Teter of Fort Seybert and H. Byrd Teter of Franklin; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were hedld Dec. 22 at Fairview-Bethel United Methodist Church at Fort Seybert with Rev. MArk James officiating. Burial was at the Fairview-Bethel Cemetery, Fort Seybert.

Helen Regina Hartman

Helen Regina Hartman, 82, of Franklin, died on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at the Pendleton Nursing Home. 

Born March 30, 1924, in Onego, she was a daughter of the late Warnie and Delia (Roy) Hartman. 

Ms. Hartman was a former employee f Celanese Corp. and a graduate of Circleville High School  She was a member of Roaring Creek Mennonite Church. 

Surviving are her two sisters, Mae Vance of Onego and Ruby Auvil of Harpers Ferry, and several nieces and nephews. 

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Forrest and Loy Hartman, and a sister, Ruth Mullenax. 

Graveside services were held Saturday at White Cemetery, Harman.

She was born July 4, 1940, at Harrisonburg, VA, and was the daughter of Sylvia Ray Hartman Hammer of Franklin and the late Raymond Byrd (Pete) Hammer.

She retired from Pendleton Senior and Family Services and attended Christ Central Community Church. She loved reading, sewing, gardening and spending time with her friends and family.

Her first husband, Dr. Raymond M. Hoover, preceded her in death. Her second husband was James E. Conrad.

Surviving in addition to her mother, are three sons, Byrd C. Hammer and his wife, Melinda,  Dr. Kevan R. Hoover and his wife, Roxann, and Wesley L. Hoover and his fiancée, Tina Mitchell, all of Franklin; one daughter, Jonni Kay Cooley and her husband, Chris, of Keezletown, VA; 11 grandchildren, Emmanuel C. Hammer, Gabriel W. Hammer, Evie E. Hammer, Israel W.P. Hammer, Julian A. Basagic, RayElla G. Hoover, Wade A. Hoover, Madison P. Cooley, Cameron S. Cooley, Amberly Mitchell and Rebecca Mitchell.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Gary S. "Pete" Hammer.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Christ Central Community Church at Upper Tract with the Revs. Sam Harper and Max Fisher officiating.

Mr. Moats was born Sept. 28, 1950, in Moyers and was a son of the late Collie Roosevelt Moats and Margaret Josephine Scott Moats.

He lived in Wellsville, OH for the past 19 years and was employed at P.C.C. AirFoil in Minerva, OH, for 15 years. He was a member of Moats Chapel AME Church. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1968 and formerly worked at Hanover Shoe Company in Franklin.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Jamila Blanchard of Sugar Grove; a son, David Nathaniel Moats of Petersburg; a step-son, Shammara Blanchard of Kent, OH; seven sisters, Anna Bell Middleton-Moats and Mamie Redman, both of Staunton, VA, Althea Robinson of Colony, TX, Iva Melzenia Shupe of Lexington, MD, Wilma Halsey of Tampa, FL, Pamela Redman of Franklin and Alberta Alt of Upper Tract; a brother, Thomas A. Moats of Moyers; a grandson, Davon Moats of Ohio; and a step-grandson, Livi Pearson of Sugar Grove..

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jack Harrison Moats.  

The Rev. Eldon Moats conducted the funeral Tuesday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at the Moats family cemetery, Moyers.

Paul Sponaugle, 86

Paul Rondel Sponaugle, 86, of Glen Burnie, MD, passed away Dec. 16, 2006, at the Baltimore-Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD. 

Born April 15, 1920, in Circleville, he was the eight child of John A. and Mary D. Vandevander Sponaugle. 

He was a World War II Veteran serving as an infantry man in the US Army 145th Division.  He served in the Southwest 'Pacific and Philippines campaigns and was awarded two bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts.  He was a member of the Purple Heart Chapter 122, the American Legion Post 289 and the Disabled American Veterans. 

His wife of 59 years, Nellie B. Gum Sponaugle, survives. 

Also surviving are two sons, Larry A. Sponaugle of Millersville, MD, and Ronald P. Sponaugle and wife, Nancy of Fort Collins, CO; one daughter, Sheila D. Waldron and husband, Michael of Glen Burnie, MD; two brothers, Cranston J. Sponaugle of Elkins and Isaac J. Sponaugle of Clarks Summit, PA; three sisters, Vera PPhalen of Alexandria, VA, Anna Jo Hartman and Mary Lou Lambert, both of glen Burnie, MD; one grandchild, MelindaD. Goodman and husband, Jason; and two great-grandchildren, August P. and MacKenzie J. Goodman. 

He also was preceded in death by four brothers, William J., Beed A., Adam H. and Conda R. Sponaugle; and three sisters, Christena B. Bennett, Simona L. Warner and Nola M. Mueller. 

Funeral services were held Dec. 20, 2006, at the Stalling Funeral Home Pasadena, MD, with Rev. Robert Douglas officiating. Burial was at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, MD.  

William "Bill" Boyette

Mr. Boyette was born Aug. 28, 1943, in Elyria, OH, and was a son of the late H.F. Boyette and Ruth Virginia Thorpe Boyette.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a retired salesman from Coca-Cola in Odessa, TX.  He graduated from high school in Lorraine, OH. 

In 1992, he married Wilma Louise Cowger, who survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Christina Boyette of Brandywine; a step-daughter, Glenna Stephenson of Texas; two sons, Tracey Boyette and Todd Boyette, both of Odessa, TX; a brother, Archie Boyette of Pineville, LA; and three grandchildren, Christopher, Shawn and Amber. 

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Boyette and one sister, Virginia Boyette.  .

Pastors Mack James and Carl Tribett will conduct the funeral Dec. 23, 2006, at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 4, 1912, in Zigler and was the daughter of the late Wilbert and Lucy Ellen Hartman Lambert.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed making quilts and comforters. She was a member of the Smith Creek Church of the Brethren.

On March 29, 1932, she married Denver Pennington, who preceded her in death May 4, 1996.

Surviving are four daughters, Genavee C. Wimer, Rosalie P. Simmons and Bernice L. Boyce, all of Harrisonburg, VA, and Helen J. Evick of Franklin; a son, Lynwood R. Pennington of Franklin; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Wilma Lee Geil, two brothers and three sisters. 

Funeral services were Monday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Daryl Ritchie officiating. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin, by Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin. .

She was born May 28, 1913, in Dahmer and was the daughter of the late Charles Wellington Pitsenbarger and Martha Virginia Hevener Pitsenbarger.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church.

On Nov. 27, 1933, she married Harvey M. Eye, who preceded her in death June 24, 1998.

Survivors are one son Delmas Harvey Eye of Waynesboro, VA, and two grandsons, Jonathan Eye and Matthew Eye.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church at Moyers with Rev. Dr. Cecil Bradfield officiating.  Burial was at the St. John’s Church Cemetery.
