Sadie Flora Alt, 90, Petersburg, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

She was born April 29, 1910, in Pansy and was the daughter of the late Daniel Webster Alt and Christena Layton Alt and step-daughter of the late Lucretia Mayle.

She was a member of Grove Street United Methodist Church in Petersburg and a charter life member of Rebekah Lodge No. 5. She was employed at SMC/Allied for 19-3/4 years as a splicer and was a press operator at Grant County Press for 20 years.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by a daughter, Flora Jean "Pudgy" Alt Kisamore, Petersburg, with whom she lived; a niece whom she raised, Josephine Williams, Kissimmee, FL; and a special friend, Welsey William Deadrick, Petersburg.

She was also preceded in death by one grandchild, Jonathan J. Kisamore, who died April 16, 1977, four brothers, Daniel V., Arlie E. (Buck), Glen McNeil (Jonas) and Auston G. (Ikey) Alt, and three sisters, Edna S. Pennington, Radie E. Kuykendall, and an infant sister that was not named.

The Rev. Richard Longbon conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Dec. 22 at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial was at the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.

Oscar Ray Kuykendall, 97, Petersburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg.

Mr. Kuykendall was born Nov. 9, 1903, in Rough Run and was a son of the late George W. Kuykendall and Ida Bell Sites Kuykendall.

He retired from Petersburg Tannery after 43 years and was a farmer and member of the Memorial Church of the Brethren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Radie Esther Alt, who died Dec. 29, 1988.

Survivors include two daughters, Esther Hipp, Petersburg, and Josephine Williams, Kissimmee, FL; three sons, Daniel Kuykendall, Slex, VA, Junior Ray Kuykendall, Stuarts Draft, VA, and Gene L. Kuykendall, Kenova; two sisters, Mary Landes, Baltimore, MD, and Vina Hines, Dorcas; one brother, Jess Kuykendall, Dorcas; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Larry Hipp, two sons, Charles Wayne and David, one daughter, Mary, three brothers, Bennie, George and James, and two sisters, Minnie Fitzwater, and Nellie Kuykendall.

The Rev. Richard Longbon conducted the funeral at 2 p.m. Dec. 30 at the Chapel of Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial followed in Lahmansville Cemetery.

Mabel Thelma Craig, 91, Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at the nursing home.

Mrs. Craig was born August 16, 1909, in Deer Run and was a daughter of the late Taylor Ruddle and Bessie M. Hinkle Ruddle.

She was a retired clerk at Thalheimers in Richmond, VA, and was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church. She attended St. John's Academy and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 32.

Her husband, Rexie Craig, died Aug. 3, 1985.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Elaine Craig, Franklin; a sister, Hazel Dyer, Franklin; two brothers, William Hinkle Ruddle and Raleigh Ruddle, both of Franklin; two granddaughters, Doris Dove and husband, Larry, and Mary Beth Lambert and husband, Mark; and four great-grandchildren, Clifton and Beth Lynn Dove, and Jesse and Jacob Lambert.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Inez Hartman.

The funeral was held Monday at Mount Zion United Methodist Church. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.

Henry Philbert Eye, 83, Harrisonburg, VA, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Camelot Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Eye was born August 5, 1917, in Brandywine and was a son o fthe late Wesley Reuben and Osie Bolton Eye. He later moved to Harrisonburg, VA, where he had since made his home.

He worked at Spotswood Country Club for 14 years. He was a member of Mount Horeb United Methodist Church.

On Feb. 19, 1938, he married Lois Wimer Eye, who preceded him in death on Feb. 8, 1997.

Surviving are one son, Eris "Bud" Eye of Hinton, VA; four daughters, Katherine Sencindiver, Phyllis Rhodes and Jo Ansah, all of Harrisonburg, VA, and Sara Dove of London, England; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lola Miller of Dayton, VA.

The Rev. William Garber conducted the funeral service at 4 p.m. December 23 from the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home. Private burial was held at Mount Horeb Church cemetery.

Marvin Leon Kline, 69, Arthur, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Kline was born Sept. 29, 1931, in Maysville and was the son of the late Robert Kline and Edna Keplinger Kline.

He retired from Advantage Foods, where he worked in the maintenance department, and was a drywall hanger and plasterer for many years. He was a member of Grove Street United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Arlene Riggleman Kline; two sons, Tony Kline, Maysville and Steven Kline, Arthur; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

The Rev. Richard Longbon conducted the funeral at 2 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial was at Kline Cemetery, Upper Tract.

Wanda L. Hund, 64, Circleville, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at her home.

She was born Sept. 18, 1936, and was a daughter of the late Roland Nicholas and Elizabeth Grogg Nicholas.

She is survived by a daughter, Wendy Dylore, Fayetteville, GA; four brothers, Eugene Nicholas, Harvey Nicholas, Roland Nicholas and Vervie Nicholas; a sister, Carolyn Smity; and three grandchildren.

Pastor Robert Brown conducted a graveside service at 11 a.m. Dec. 23 at the North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

Arrangements were by the Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin.

Fairfax Howard Carpenter, 60, of Florida, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, in Grant County.

Mr. Carpenter was born Sept. 24, 1940 in Washington, DC, and was the son of the late Fairfax L. Carpenter and Fredericka Calhoun Carpenter. His maternal grandparents were the late Alfred R. "Fred" Calhoun and Mary Jundy Calhoun, originally from Pendleton County.

He was a veteran of the US Navy. He was retired from the nursery and landscape business in Maryland and Arizona. He was an avid fisherman and returned frequently to the streams of Pendleton County.

He is survived by a daughter, Sherrie Carpenter Johnson of Round Lake, IL; a son, Travis Carpenter of Wilmington, NC; two grandchildren; three aunts; and many cousins.

At Mr. Carpenter's request, his body was cremated and the ashes scattered on Hermit Island in Smoke Hole.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

Arlene Mullenax Rodriguez Berriz, 72, Oakland, CA, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, in Oakland, CA.

She was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Circleville and was a daughter of the late Jenifer Hurlie Mullenax and Iscie Lee Simmons Mullenax.

She was an executive secretary at Jaiser Aluminum.

Her husband, Edward Rodriguez-Berriz, died Nov. 22, 2000.

She is survived by a sister, Genevieve Thompson, Stuarts Draft, VA; two brothers, Paul and Garland Mullenax, both of Circleville; and nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Sudie Catherine Mullenax.

The Rev. Earl Bible conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Dec. 28 at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

David Henry Clauze, 72, Moorefield, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Clauze was born June 6, 1928, in Maysville and was a son of the late Richard G. and Marie I. Schell Clauze.

He is survived by his wife, Arvella Spitzer Clauze; four sons, Richard Clauze, Slanesville, Terry Clauze, Maysville, William Clauze, Burlington, and Gary Clauze, Inwood; four daughters, Barbara Clauze, Kaura Mongold and Lori Whetzel, all of Moorefield; a brother, Reggie Clauze, Petersburg;; two sisters, Glenna Rohrbaugh, Maysville, and Lois Kile, Upper Tract; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Carol Yerkey conducted the funeral at 6 p.m. Dec. 26 at Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield. At Mr. Clauze's request, his body was cremated after the funeral.

Bonnie Lee Crenshaw, 76, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at her home.

She had been a lifelong Peninsula resident. She was the daughter of Benjamin H. and Ethel F. Colaw, who preceded her in death.

Her husband, William Mason Crenshaw, and a brother, Benny F. Colaw, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and John Lewis of Columbus, OH; her son, Gary Crenshaw of Hampton, VA; her sister, Reba Gutshall of Richmond, VA; and two grandchildren, Joshua Lewis and Breanna N. Lewis.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Parklawn Memoriam Park.

Emory Dale Dolly, 62, Cabins, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Dolly was born March 12, 1938, in Pendleton County, and was a son of the late Henson R. and Rhoda M. Moyers Dolly.

He was employed by Pierce-Conagra in Moorefield and attended Cabins Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Annabell Reed Dolly; a son, Donald D. Dolly, Petersburg; a daughter, Diana M. Kelley, Larksput, CO; three sisters, Elsie Mauzy, Cabins, Emily Weatherholtz, Lahmansville, and Brenda Dolly, Caldwell; a brother, Elvin Dolly, Old Fiends; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Esta M. Dolly.

The Revs. Stephen B. Landis and Charles "Dusty" Twigg conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Dec. 26 at Cabins Assembly of God Church. Burial was at Riggleman Cemetery in Cabins.

Viola Marie Kisamore, 69, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mrs. Kisamore was born June 19, 1931, at Mouth of Seneca and was a daughter of the late Dillion Amos Turner and Catherine Teany Sites Turner.

She was employed at the Petersburg Sewing Factors of Corners United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Burl Kisamore, two daughters, Mary Frances Guyton and Nancy Lee Kile, both of Petersburg; a son, Chester Lee Goldizen, Manassas, VA; a sister, Arvella Mae Goldizen, Maysville; a brother, Norman Paul Turner, Petersburg; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Michael Lee Goldizen.

The Revs. Stanley Kile and Joseph Gerstell conducted the funeral at 1 p.m. Dec. 27 at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial was at South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg.
