Higginbotham, Tressie Florence Shivertaker (1896-1946)
Charleston Gazette, Saturday 02/09/1946�Higginbotham, Mrs. Tressie Shivertaker-50, of Sissonville, wife of Clarence Higginbotham, died yesterday in a local hospital after a long illness. Also surviving are four sons, Clarence Jr., Tuppers Creek, Harold, Charles and Donald, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Sinnett Jones, Sissonville; three brothers, P. E., J. W., and E. J. Shivertaker, Charleston; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Fisher, Sissonville and Mrs. O. C. Hunt, Charleston; three grandchildren. The body is at the Noble Long mortuary.

Higginbotham, Virginia Frances Hayes
Charleston Gazette, Friday 12/05/1941�Mrs. Virginia Francis Higginbotham, 89, mother of six children and who had 42 grandchildren, died at noon yesterday in her home at Nitro. Her children are Mrs. Mary Smith and Mrs. Erma Smith of Nitro, Mrs. Eva Higginbotham and Mrs. Myrtle Jeffries of Red House, Charles Higginbotham of Dunbar and Alvin Higginbotham of Nitro. A sister, Mrs. Alice Hedrick of Nitro, also survives. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Antioch Baptist church with Rev. Jarrett Chandler and Rev. J. H. Burchett officiating. Burial will be in New Antioch cemetery with the Bartlett mortuary of St. Albans in charge.

Higginbotham, Virginia Frances Priddy (1866-1931)
Charleston Gazette, Wednesday 06/10/1931�Mrs. Virginia Higginbotham, 65, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S. W. Kessel, West Seventh Avenue. She is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Ruth Calloway, San Francisco; two sons, Clark of Rochester, Pa.; and Ralph of Ethel. Funeral arrangements have not been made pending the arrival of relatives.

Higginbotham, Wilford Lee (1891-1950)
Charleston Daily Mail, Tuesday 08/15/1950�Funeral services for Wilford Lee Higginbotham, 59, of Nitro, will be conducted by Rev. James C. Fisher Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Mr. Higginbotham, a storeroom superintendent of American Viscose Corp. for 30 years, died at his home Monday following a long illness. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Nitro American Legion, and a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ella Higginbotham, a teacher in Putnam County schools; one brother, Murrel of Buffalo; one sister, Miss Mirtie Higginbotham of Buffalo; and three nephews. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park under the direction of Fred Cooke mortuary in Nitro.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Cora Kersey of Langsville, O., Mrs. Nora Anania of Charleston and Mrs. Judy Warren of Seaman, O.; and one son, Romeo Higginbotham of Dresden, O. The body is at Snodgrass Mortuary.

Mr. Higginbotham was a graduate of Morris Harvey College and had taught school in Kanawha County for the past 15 years. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Willa Higginbotham of Sissonville; a sister, Mrs. Hilda Casto of Sissonville; and a brother, Herbert of Sissonville. Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Emma Chapel Church by Rev. Hobson D. Fisher. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body is at Long and Fisher mortuary and will be taken at 4 p.m. today to the home.

He was retired from International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 466 as an electrician and business manager. He was an Army veteran of World War II and attended Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was a member of Kanawha 20 Masonic Lodge. Surviving: wife, Betty S. sons, William E. "Bill" of Nitro, Larry of Washington, Frank of St. Albans; stepson, David R. of Illinois; stepdaughter, Beverly of Charleston; sisters, Alice, Bernice and Loretta, all of South Charleston, Aretta Elkview, June of New Jersey; seven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. 4/30/1936 - 7/27/1997 -S.C. woman dies after US 119 wreck, A South Charleston woman died Saturday from injuries received in an automobile accident that injured another woman and a man Saturday morning on U.S. 119 at Green Road. Loretta Gay Hoffman, 61, died in General Division, CAMC, after the car in which she was riding crossed in front of oncoming traffic, South Charleston police Lt. J. McGIll said. The driver of the car, Hoffman's sister, Alice, 72, of South Charleston, was in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit at General on Sunday evening, a nursing supervisor said. The driver of the other vehicle, McGill, 45, of Charleston, was treated and released from General, Leishman said. Leishman said McGill was traveling about 40 mph and had no time to react when the vehicle pulled out in front of his vehicle. Hoffman was formerly employed by the state Library Commission. She was a member of Freedom Bowling League, Charleston, and attended Wesleyan Chapel Church, South Charleston. Surviving: daughter, Vita Anne of South Charleston; sisters, Aretta May of Elkview, Bernice and Alice, both of South Charleston, June of Pedricktown, N.J. Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston, with the Rev. David Bess officiating. Entombment will be in Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston. Golda M. Hudnall, 78, of Dunbar died Feb. 14, 2001, at home after a long illness. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of TOPS, Dunbar. She was born in Kanawha County on May 7, 1922, to Homer Jackson Bradshaw and Ruba Agnes Riffle, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Garnet Hudnall, Sr. and daughters, Margaret Elizabeth Tyler and Nellie Don Hudnall. Surviving: daughters, Martha Jane Johnson of Dunbar, Carolyn Smith of Poca; sons, Walter G. Hudnall, Jr. of Dunbar, Homer Jackson Hudnall of Hurricane; sisters, Mary Williams and Pearl Remy, both of Gallipolis, Ohio; brothers, Herbert and Russell Bradshaw, both of Florida; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. HUDSON, MRS. NANCY
The Kanawha Valley Star..Tuesday, March 22, 1859..Died at the residence of her husband, (Mr. Samuel Hudson), near the mouth of Coal River in Kanawha County, Virginia. Mrs Nancy Hudson was born on the 3rd of May 1792 and died on the 13th of February 1859; being 66 years 9 months and 10 days old. She was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Thomas, who came to Kanawha from Buckingham County in the year 95. She was a member of the M. E. Church South since last summer. She died of consumption.
