WILL OF ADAM GRIFFITH

1784-1863

In the name of God. Amen - I Adam Griffith of Briar Creek in the County of Kanawha in the State of Virginia, being of sound mind and memory, Blessed be Almighty God for the Same, do make and Publish this my last Will and testament.

I give and bequeath to my Sons, Norman Griffith, George Griffith, Jackson Griffith, William Griffith and Collin Griffith, all my land I pay taxes on at death if I should survive my wife. If she should survive me at her death, Which they are to divide equal among themselves. I give unto my five daughters all my property except land "to wit" Mary Ann Holsten, Casander Stephens, Dianer Lively, Nancy Hurel and Elizabeth Williams, at my death, Which is to be equally divided among them. I do nominate and appoint John Shrewsbury to be the sole executor of this my last Will and testament, In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal and publish and declare this to be my last Will and testament in presence of the witnesses named below this day of March the 15th in the year of our lord one thousand eight Hundred and 61.

At a County Court held for Kanawha County at the Court House thereof on Monday the 16th day of February 1863. This paper Writing purporting to be the last Will and testament of Adam Griffith Decd. was this day presented to the Court, and proven by the oaths of John Mires and Caleb Means subscribing witnesses thereto according to law and the same is therefore admitted to the Record.
